So, after playing close to fifteen hours of Dragon Age: Inquisition, I can safely say that I don't like it. Frankly, I'm sick and tired of the way these games are being made. When I play Inquisition, I think of the game being put together on an assembly line and at the end of that line, is a man or woman going down a list of every AAA feature that must be in the game. Just make it grand and epic because that's what Skyrim was and it sold a **** load of copies. We have to do that so our game sells a **** load of copies!

This game is essentially, a combination of Assassin's Creed and Skyrim, and there lies the problem. Developers should not copy another game just because it sold more units. This lead to Inquisition feeling like a cheap Skyrim wannabe to me. The world design is so uninteresting. It only adds support to my preconception that Bioware doesn't know the first thing about making open world games or making levels of this magnitude remain interesting without resorting to using cheap filler content, à la, Assassin's Creed, as an incentive to explore.

It doesn't matter if the game is beautiful to look at. It feels and looks artificial. There's no heart or soul in any part of Thedas I ever visited in my time with this game.

I could go into the characters and combat being utterly boring and how I feel Bioware has lost their touch, but I think I've made my point. I won't be buying anymore Bioware games while the company is still with EA. I feel that since EA acquired the company, the quality of Bioware's games has been on the decline. It's a shame since I've been a fan for many years, but I'm also doing the same thing with Ubisoft. Their games have also been on the decline in recent years. Although I did pick up South Park today and have been enjoying it immensely. But that was made by Obsidian.

What say you?

Considering DA:I just won Game of the Year at the Doritos Pope Awards, I'd have to disagree.  :)

You disagree because somebody else gave it an award?

They just made Dragon Age pervier, add a Castle and Skyrim-esque open world and quests.

I think it's an epic win even if we don't like it and prefer NWN 2 to DA:I.

After playing for 40+ hours, I feel that DA:I is one the best games I have played in quite some time.  ^_^

Hey remember that dragon age inquisition section? The one right at the top of the forums and even easier to find than off topic. I miss it so much. Apparently it doesn't exist anymore since people keep dumping **** like this in off topic.

I don't get the constant Skyrim comparison.

Skyrim is an open world game with bland and uninteresting NPCs that gives you lots of exploration and the freedom to play your character as you want in a world that wont acknowledge many of your choices.

Inquisition is an open world game with NPCs that don't all share the same 15 lines where you mainly have to play as variations on BioWare's Inquisitor character that will acknowledge your major plot choices at the end of the game.

Other than the open world, they aren't all that much alike.

For a game supposedly stole from assassin's creed and skyrim, it certainly felt more original and alive then Dragon Age Origins and certainly more alive then AC or Skyrim.

Played this game for 30 minutes and almost quit then and there, because I felt so many things were lacking: the combat , the story , blargh blurgh (stuff )...
Decided to stick with it anyway, and am now of the opinion that it is one of the best games I have ever played.

Also, DA:I forum ----> that way

Why do you think it's like AC?

Because I was just playing Unity an hour ago and let me tell you, they're nothing alike.

You should give explanations rather than blanket claims.

Agree with EA on this one.

OP realizes Skyrim isn't the first open world RPG ever, right?

Dragon age inquisition is not open world.

It is set locations with very huge maps. Open world requires continous dynamic loading of locations, dragon age inquisition has it's set boundaries.

Considering some of my cynic friends actually like some of its aspects and played it till the end, your over-sensitivity was inexcusable.

This game is essentially, a combination of Assassin's Creed and Skyrim, and there lies the problem.

The game's elements work perfectly for the game, *but* it draws more from titles I was already aware of than bringing something new, or at least *feels* new to the table. All games take inspiration; Even Shadowrun Returns, one of my favorites, draws heavily from Fallout, V:tmB, X-Com, Deus Ex, maybe a little Mass Effect. Breaking beyond imitation into inspiration is harder for me to see for Dragon Age: Inquisition.

DA:I's my favorite of the Dragon Age Series, and I wouldn't really put it down as a 'decline'.

I could go into the characters and combat being utterly boring and how I feel Bioware has lost their touch.

Really? o.O I thought the opposite on characterization. Some of them seriously bug me due to their personality traits, but I've never thought they were uninteresting or boring.

Age of Decadence and Grimoire shouldn't be on the list at all, let alone so high on it. We'll be waiting until Wednesday, 2020 before we got confirmation those games are actually being released. And by then, Cleve might've just given up on the world and retreated to his bunker to escape the cyber-****** apocalypse.

While a decline in quality is of course up for debate, a decline in financial and critical success is not. Despite its numerous shortcomings from a creative standpoint ME3 was a smash hit, and DA:I is no different. Bioware is not "declining" anytime soon so don't look for it.
