I have to agree that I like Inquisition more than Skyrim, but then I also didn't think Skyrim was as amazing as everybody else seems to.

but then this is BSN and we aren't supposed to actually like BioWare's new games, apparently.

Are people putting Skyrim up on a pedestal? Saying Skyrim does exploration better isn't a significant slight on Inquisition. Inquisition does its own thing in other areas.

The internet's been putting Skyrim up on a pedestal since it came out 3 years ago.

Skyrim's a great game.

Indeed. We should be HONEST on these forums, and if DA 3 kinda sucks, nobody will get a gold star for saying otherwise.

Biower needs the feedback, guys

The problem is that if I say I think Inquisition is better than Skyrim then some people claim I'm not being honest because they can't grasp that my opinion may differ from theirs =P

Damn straight.

I agree with you both, I love the game and I'm already on my second play through. And I HATED DA2.

DA:I is a great game! It's not my game of the year... but it's certainly best game Bioware has made since DA:O or ME2.

I just think it's ridiculous to say that Bioware has created a world that's better than those Bethesda has created. The entire world of Thedas in Inquisition reminds me of KoA. A developer that has next to no experience creating open worlds but can still make them look pretty. But any developer can make it look pretty. Even the shitty games today are at least nice to look at. But making a world feel lived in, like it was crafted by it's inhabitants and not a game developer's hands, that's something else entirely. That is where Bethesda succeeds and so many others fail.

They also give out a free mod kit to people so they can create their own free content (which is why EA refuses to do it) and expand on what's already there. That alone makes TES a superior gaming experience to anything EAware produces.

But then you look at how the exploration is crafted in DAI and it's better than Skyrim, IMO. Yes, Bethesda does do some things better as you said. However, I prefer DAI's exploration because as a completionist it's a far more rewarding game. You will often run many minutes without seeing content in any Bethesda game. That's very boring. In DAI, the content is so tightly packed into the zones that even when I explore the absolute most obscure place I find content. Be it a treasure chest, some rarity or even a small untold story from a journal I find. I also enjoy adventuring more in DAI because I'm livened up by such rich personalities following me. It's simply awesome to listen to banter between Varric, Solas and IB as I move about zones. That's another thing DAI does so well. It's probably the first open game I've played that has amazing characters. That in itself separates it from any other sandbox/open RPG out there because I've never played one where I found the characters/story awesome. It's always a sacrifice in those games but is actually a focus in DAI.

I can even take it a step further and say the level design in DAI is amazing. Bethesda games suffer from samesy in almost everything you do. It's a very repetitive style because their games have so much content they use the same assets over and over. Even the dragon encounters were the same in Skyrim. All the dungeon layouts were basically the same. DAI might use assets over but it very rarely feels like it. Their level design crushes anything Bethesda has done and even the dragon encounters are more interesting. Repetition exists in all games but it's how well you disguise it. I know repetitive design exists everywhere in DAI but I'm finding myself almost never realizing it. The devs did their job masking it from me because I'm enjoying so many other things in the game.

Bethesda can learn from a philosophy where they stop putting endless and pointless content in their games. They could cut 50% of their content out and nobody would care. They could tightly knit the world's content and make it all more relevant not to mention a more polished game. Bethesda's philosophy just seems to be let's give you as much as content as possible without focusing on polishing it just because. The end result is a samesy experience everywhere you go and some of the most notoriously buggy games on the market...yet I still love their games too.

In all honesty, Bioware still makes better games than most developers today. The gaming industry has gone to hell. I just wish Bioware would stop bending over and pandering to the LGBT community. It feels like they just tack that **** in to keep everyone happy. Have some sense of integrity.

They pander to everyone when it comes to romances. Their games are just a step away from being considered harems. I find it a bit funny that you'd focus directly on the LGBT community in that sense.

The romances aren't even really much of a big thing in their games, but a certain section of the community makes them out to be as big as the entire rest of the game.

At this point I would say despite being interesting sub-plots at times they should almost just remove them completely, but I know that will never happen.

@Isichar You do realise that goes both ways, right? Developers keep gay characters out of the game to keep people like you happy? The only people complaining about gay characters are either people who think because gay characters are in a game it's pandering instead of acknowledging a group of people exist, and that somehow, Bioware have an agenda just for having these characters exist, and more often than not, these people know next to nothing about the LGBT community.

Rant over.

Agenda? It's more like a Propaganda (to distract you from the actual problems of society.)

It's obviously all just to distract us from the true problem of the lizard people ruling over us.

Is there a point to your random capitalization?

What?

BioWare makes their games to appeal to more than just one group of people?!

What is this travesty?!

Oh right, it's a business. You always want to be able to market your product to the most people possible to increase sales.

Shocking that...

I still disagree this thread even belongs in OT.

That being said, from everything I've seen, DA:I would have been more accurately named DA:TOR. For good and for bad, it is quite similar to a single player KO:TOR, including filler fetch quests to grind out time and for cinematic companions and main plot quests. If you like TOR, you'd probably really enjoy DA:I. If you despise MMOs, then you'll quickly burn out on the game.

Just my two cents.

Keep gays out to keep me happy? What?

Lol why is this directed at me? I'm happy that Bioware includes gay relationships and such. I was defending it, and I've done so in other threads about the topic too including the last one you made.

I was pointing out that the relationships in the games in general are pretty much fanservice (which well while I get bothers some people doesn't particularly bother me) and I think if they are going to go that route they may as well keep everyone happy by appealing to the LGBT community.

I swear no one on these forums even reads what I write anymore.

@Dermain

Mm not saying pandering/fanservice is necessarily a bad thing mind you, it's actually a good thing when done in moderation IMO.

I take it you have never played Fallout New Vegas then.

Not Obsidian's best game. I did not like the characters or story in New Vegas. In fact, I thought F3 was a better game as far as the world, quests and atmosphere went. New Vegas is a better pure RPG experience for me but I certainly didn't enjoy that game for the characters or story. They're not bad just nothing special either.

Man I wish Obsidian would try something like Alpha Protocol again. That game is underrated. It has a lot of flaws but I can only imagine how good it could've been if Sega didn't screw that project all up.

Well there is no accounting for taste, which usually gets lost in these sorts of discussions. But in my opinion Cass, Veronica, Raul, Arcade, and Boone are just as interesting as any companion characters Bioware has written. Obviously there is a lack of polish and/or attention paid to it (rough around the edges as it were), similar to Jade Empire in that regard.

And yes Alpha Protocol does need a sequel. Hopefully with a better publisher involved.

I thought New Vegas's companions were somewhat of a mixed bag, personally; I've never really understood the appeal of Boone or Veronica. Cass was the best though.

And I would murder a puppy for an Alpha Protocol sequel (or spiritual successor or what have you). I think I've played the original around 8 or so times.

Yeah, Cass was the best. I liked Raul, Veronica, and Arcade as well. I wasn't really a fan of Boone either, but there is also a few Bioware character that I don't particularity like so that's why I included him anyway.
