WTF Solas!

Yea, everyone acts weird about the Well in my game. Always the opposite of what they said.

I have a thread about this! If you think it's weird as well, please leave a comment. I'm hoping a dev or someone notices and explains if dialogue got cut strangely or if something is missing there. :S
Someone must drink it... doesn't mean it should be you...
Wait... have you finished the game? Cause I think there might kinda be a legitimate reason for him to protest any use of it.
But he didn't. He admitted the Wells knowledge would be useful, he simply expressed distrust about Morrigan using it. he refused to do it himself, and gets pissed about YOU using it. Basically he said the Well is useful and should probably use it, then gets pissed off, regardless of who used it.
The Well just gets to everyone, I think.
It's one of those 'It sounded like a good idea, but now that we're actually here, I don't like it and I want to leave' things, seems like.
My favorite was in my last run at the Well, I had Cassandra in my party and she very clearly said 'Morrigan wants it too badly, you shouldn't let her' but then after the whole 'The Well is booby-trapped~!' revelation, she was all for Morrigan drinking from it because if someone has to do it, it shouldn't be the Herald.
My first run, I brought Solas along as the 'Elven/Magical Weird Expert' and his whole 'Don't drink from the well or I'll make frowny faces at you' was just...Go back to sighing at me in a passive-aggressive fashion, mister. ;D I really need to take him along the next time my Quizzie walks the Petitioner's Path and pay closer attention to the things that he says. I was really thinking there would be a way out of making that decision, kind of surprised me it had to be one or the other.
edit: I do wonder if he isn't just frustrated by the whole situation. Secret, well-preserved temple being despoiled by a bunch of crazy people with no regard for the consequences of their actions. Would've been nice if a certain someone had just been a decent sort and died in the explosion instead of wrecking all the fancy Arlathan relics.
Solas is mad at first but he understands the rationale after you talk him down in his little mural hovel afterwards. At least thats what happened with me.

Yeah I got a **** load of approval in that conversation if you're explanation makes sense to him.
Still doesn't make sense. He didn't really protest as much as he leads you to believe in the conversation following. His stance went basically 'As long as it isn't Morrigan.' to 'Are you an idiot? Why did you do it?'
Maybe I've just always had a bias towards Morrigan, but the fact she wanted to drink from the Well told me *Warning!! Warning!! Bad Idea in Progress!!* I liked Morrigan but I've NEVER fully trusted her.
I mean sure she's not all bad and I think this game proved that much, she was willing to give her life for her child. I certainly didn't expect that. But it's Morrigan we're talking about here guys! She advises you to make the wrong choice almost every time in DAO, based off her mindset of always striving for greater power.
I knew she wasn't lieing to my character though when she joined our cause she didn't lie about knowing blood magic, she was open and honest, she also knew there was a cost involved in drinking from the well but assumed it would be negligible.
She assumed that because she's the same Morrigan as you knew before, very little has really changed wth her. I believe she fully intended to kill her own child for greater power, the Old God soul Flemeth wanted so badly. She just couldn't go through with it once she had Kieran because despite everything she still has some good in her, it's just buried deep down under her darker side.

Well that one of the reasons why I chosen Warden romance Morrigan, had God child, and left with Morrigan as my World State.
Morrigan shows a better side of herself due to being with the Warden and their son.
Though I wonder what kind of "love" stuff he writes to Morrigan while searcing for the cure for the Calling though I would not want to know fully considering Morrigan did mention the letters sent to her by the Warden will make Leliana blush.
No, Morrigan was after the knowledge that the well gave, not some kind of crazy power. I would have let her drink it if only she wouldn't be bound to her mother which is so cruel now that she has a family in my game. I loved the character development in her and for a person that was raised to become a cruel power machine, willing to save her son for her life seemed like a pretty big change. You can argue that she still seeks more power but after my Inquisitor drank, Morrigan remained in the group. It really seemed to me that she just wanted to save the well and the knowledge that came with it, because she seemed interested in what happened to the Inquisitor. But yes, speaking of the approval system, I remember in the beginning Cass said to get the Mages and suddenly Cullen mentiones Templars being just as helpful. Cass disagrees with him as far as I remember and I believe when you pick Mages she gives you that big disapproval stat.
She wants the Mage help but after seeing what the Mages did in redcliff she thinks it is better to keep them undercontrol due to how they sided with Tevinter.

But that knowledge is power. The ancient elves had magic like no other culture in the world, drinking from the well gave her that, but she knew there was a cost and didn't know exactly what that cost would be. Now I understand much was at stake, but she was far too eager to drink for this to be just about defeating Corypheus.
Also if she has changed so much why risk herself when her son needs her. No this was not just about preserving old magic or knowlegde, she wanted an edge against Flemeth, especially now that she had decided to keep her son.
