How do I get enough approval from Solas to start his companion quest?

Aside from taking him to all those Elven artifacts (and using them), I don't know.

I did the Elven things without him, so that's no good.
And I've already spoken to him about everything. He just talks about Corypheus now and that's about it. :/
I don't think you can activate them without him along, though? Whenever I've tried it won't let me...

You aren't talking about the Elven ruins then? Hmmmm. I should learn more about this and get on it.

Solas appreciates an inquisitive mind (pun intended). If you act like you already know everything there is to know he will hate you.
Also mages can activate the Elvhen artifacts without Solas present. He just needs to be around for the first one. Still didn't need that as crutch for both of them to get along.

He basically hates me cuz I did everything to gain approval from Sera as she's the one I romanced and they're total opposites.
While I like Sera...
Solas >>>>>> Sera as a character. Didn't romance either of them so I'm speaking from that perspective. Also, my opinion obviously.

Solas likes, kindness towards others - helping the mages, chasing after knowledge (basically question and ask him things during his dialogue sequences and you'll net a lot of approval), and see things more in a shade of grey. He literally bleeds approval for me. o.o

I didn't at first either, but she grew on me. She's ignorant but she has good values. Or thinks she does. Solas is just too serious, doesn't know how to have fun.. I dunno. I'm a child at heart.

I've activated the elven artifacts with a warrior, so no Solas doesn't need to be there, and yes that DOES waste the chance to increase his approval.

Unless you choose to pick choices that he favors during what pride has wrought I can't think of a way to increase his approval if you largely disagreed with him. Did you do all your judgements? how many hours are you in?
Also if you're not fond of his character (or your inquisitor isn't), why bother trying to get his personal quest at this point?

So track down all Elven artifacts.. I'll try that. I hope there's still some left to find. :/
There are a lot. Some maps have as many as three. Look for them. If you take him with you he'll sense them nearby and let you know.

This also helps, though I'm not sure if they're fully done yet. There's a legend for each icon at the VERY bottom of the pages, so you'll need to scroll down sadly to make sense of it.

I did do all judgements, and I'm a little over 80hours in.
I'm a completionist. Also, although he's my least favourite, I just want to be on friendly terms with all of them. I hear that he disappears at the end of the game if you don't have high approval.

I somehow managed to get Solas' personal quest a bit after unlocking the Exalted Plains. I brought him along pretty much from the beginning and he approved of most everything my Inquisitor did (she was nice and diplomatic), until after having finished his quest; now, he doesn't approve of anything she does. Heaven forbid she wants the Wardens to redeem themselves or for Cole to grow as a personI I swear, just looking at a blade of grass the wrong way pisses him off. Still, he's one of my most favourite characters, even if he's a pain in the arse to please. ![]()
ANYWAY, to get his approval up rather quickly, I'd recommend taking him with you on all the main quests in the Hinterlands, Storm Coast, Fallow Mire, and a few in the Exalted Plains, including Elven ruins. As long as you're nice and try to do the right thing, his approval is relatively easy to get. Afterwards, though, continue to be nice and it's like his approval does a 180. A real Jekyll & Hyde, that one.

Um he....er....no, nevermind. You'll see.
Dammit some things are just to big to spoil.

It's a dangerous business, Silent Nukee, stepping into the spoiler forums asking about a character when you haven't finished the game. If you don't keep up your approval with them, there's no knowing where they might be swept off too.

I'll just spoiler tag this for you since this is spoilerbutt and enter at your own risk.
I also did a friendship run as I like to call it where I ended the game with everyone as my friend at least. It required having a rotating party and knowing which companions to take with you for the right occasion. I had very high approval with Solas and Sera, solas is easy in the beginning and sera is easier later in the game. I hope you do manage to trigger that quest before the final battle.
I'm unsure what choices you're going to make during Pride has wrought but it's very easy to gain "solas greatly approves" during that quest. Sera doesn't really care much about what you do during that quest aside from one choice.
