I'd heard mentions of a 50 save limit but I assumed that was for each character/playthrough. Why the heck would they impose a limit like this? I'm an alt addict and I also like to save before major scenes that I want to play through or watch again. I can't start a new game now. I guess three playthroughs is the maximum I'm allowed. When I even try it says "please delete 6 save games and try again"
Wait, 50 save limit...amongst all characters?!

I'm assuming this is on a console?
I ask because I am a save-a-holic and save every couple of minutes, or just before talking to someone, etc... and have easily had over 100 saves at multiple points. I am playing on the PC however, so there doesn't seem to be a 50 save limit on the PC at least. I just checked, currently sitting on 68 save's.
Assuming it's console - have you checked your Consoles hard disk drive space? Are you sure there is ample space there - as lack of space could be reason why it's asking to delete saves?

The search feature doesn't work correctly at all in my experience.
Is this on PC or console? I'm pretty sure I've already exceeded 50 saves on my pc, going on my 4th playthrough.
^ I'm just like that guy, I literally save every few minutes, especially before companion conversations/big decisions.

It's a brand new Xbox one and this is the only game that has ever been played on it, it should have plenty of space right?

I was rather upset to discover it was the same on PC. I'm trying to see if I can just move saves of one character to a separate folder and then switch them around when I want to play that character's story.

Nothing wrong at deleting them if I just order them by date and press Delete till yesterday. Had to delete twice from the capped saves on my Nightmare 150h playthrough.
But I don't think that it would be solution to just uncap it and then let me flood 1200 saves, and It'd be better off like with automatically rolling 1-50 slot save button so that they don't pile up. Then I could just create on top of that 200 ..or why not 2000 separate saves if needed? Honestly it wouldn't matter for me that how many saves there are after that, and would most likely just end up using +2-5 saves myself.

ugh this is horrible.
This is the most ridiculous complaint I have ever seen.

Unless someone from BW comes along and confirms this I don't think this is true. I'm a save-a-holic too and through a few separate characters I know I have more than 50 saves...I think it may be 50 individual save files but not writing over the same save file multiple times. I save at different points in the story as well in case I want to go back and choose a different outcome. Even with that I haven't had any error telling me to erase a file before I can save again so no offense to the OP but I don't think this is really an issue.

The second I saw the 250 save limit I raged at bioware for most of the day. I didn't have this problem with the original two games.

Some of us like saving before we go into conversations, before big fights, and like seeing different outcomes during different parts of the game. This requires a lot of saves, and I've never had a limit of them until now.
I had 5 characters in origins, each of which had 500 saves. I had 4 in Dragon Age 2, each of which had roughly the same amount.

How in the name of holy hades do you do this. I just finished a 120 hour playthrough with 2 saves. There is the current and previous. The games auto save is insanely generous so you are never losing hours of gameplay. I get saving before important moments but once you get past that...what are you actually saving especially back 4 or 5 important decisions.
I have always made backup saves every few hours in all of my RPG plays. Once every 2-3 hours and again right before each decision point... major or minor.
Part of this is to be able to change my mind later if I want, another part is that if I find at the end that I do not want to re-play the entire game I can pick any point in the game I wish to go a different route with choices.
You say 4-5 important decisions, but when you're on your first playthrough... how do you KNOW what is an important decision? If I get to the end and find out that one decision I made on the war table or somewhere else gave me an ending I didn't like, I want to have a save file right near that choice where I can jump in and go again.
By 75 hours in DA:I I had about 40 saves for my main play and hit the limit. I had to delete files down to one backup every 10 hours instead.

I have an Xbox One glitch restricting me to 8 saves across all play throughs (hopefully to be patched).
But the milestones and autosaves are regular so no issues 120h in.

It's not an issue to you, but it is to me and many others. The limit is for individual saves, not overwriting previous saves but like I said before, I like to save before big moments and conversations so I can play them again. DA:O had an 8 character limit (Xbox 360) and some DLC counted as a separate character so you could be shave down to only 2 playthroughs with DLC. This could be circumvented by making new gamer profiles which didn't seem to require an email address or signing up for anything online the way the Xbox one gamer profiles seem to. I don't understand why BioWare pointlessly restricts our storage. Let me manage my own and have as many characters as I want.

It's not overwriting saves... it's 50 individual save files.
And that's on xbox one. Apparently it's 40 on PS4. I have to assume that those limits are imposed by Microsoft and Sony due to cloud backups of save files (PS4 does this too, doesn't it?). Since they are providing the backup storage, they probably don't want to let someone eat up 500 save files worth of storage for one game.

I don't understand it either to be honest. Maybe there was a limitation preventing them from allowing an infinite amount of saves? If not, then allowing as many saves as you want shouldn't be a problem. Before this thread I didn't know about the 50 different save file limit. Knowing that now I can manage them so I don't run into that problem. Anyone know if you can move your files to an external hard drive to avoid having them count against the 50 file limit?

I really don't see why anyone would need more than 50 saves. Once you've completed the game just hold onto the finished game save and delete the rest.

Except people may want to replay an old character from a different spot in the story (e.g. after the Hinterlands). Why should they not get to do this if they are on console?
