Craft armor instead of waiting on a drop, play that character and check back periodically for new schematics to be unlocked. Armor drops are ultra rare as I see it, if you have 11 levels worth of chests you can likely make something.

lvl 11 is nothing, it's like 5/6 routine runs...or maybe you mean rank 11, which is also nothing :)

As Electric said, focus on salvaging useless items and armor mods and you ll be able to craft your first armor really soon.

You're also not going to see much of a performance boost by crafting higher quality armor.  It gives a small increase to armor rating, which gives a small increase to damage reduction (~10-20 damage reduced per strike).  From the sound of it, that's intentional.  Amelia mentioned in the "Is it worth it to craft T2 armor?" thread that the armor was intended to be more of an appearance change than a performance boost.

Salvaging/Crafting gives you a more stable progression of armours, if you're salvaging all your Junk you should be able to craft a new class armour every 6-10 runs (depending on your luck).

This way box pulled Classes are more of a bonus.

So far I've crafted:

Archer T2
Keeper T2 + Improved
Templar T1, T2 + Improved
Assassin T1, T2 + Improved
Legionnaire T2 + Improved
Reaver T1, T2 + Improved

Ones Ive found:

All Archer T1 improved
2 Keeper T1 Improved
All Legionnaire T1 Improved
Necromancer Unlock
Katari Unlock
Elementalist Unlock
2 Assassin T2 Improved all T1 Improved
All Remaining Templar sets (Fully unlocked)

Crafting is definitely the way forward at least for unlocking and initial T2 sets as it gives you more rolls at the Improved T2 Sets (the ones you eventually want)

11 levels? are you joking? that's a few matches.

Whats a lot of matches. The kind of time frame your talking about? And should a player move onto the next difficulty level when the characters is high enough or should they re do lower levels for the materials and drops?

I have only just got into MP and for the most part its quite fun. I`m a little lost as to how everything works yet. I see a lot of Level 20 characters doing level 1-8 missions. Is that normal?

I have to say the crafting approach seems likely improbable to me. I have gotten the three starting characters up to level 10 playing routine. I've gotten a second level armor but do not have the materials to craft anything and once I struggle on to craft something, then the other 2 classes will be screwed. I'm breaking down everything but the one item that my people are wearing so I get that part but it seems like the rate of return on this stinks. I am thinking maybe a higher level will help but at the same time when I am wearing the same armor I was at level 5 I fear being more burden than help.

Armour's not really that important tbh. It doesn't jump up that much. Levelling up your characters and paying attention to the passive skills you unlock is much more imprtant.
I have all 12 chars, 4 of them in T2 equipment and 2 in Inquisition equipment. All I can say is keep plugging through levels, I've been solidly this last 3 weeks or so and obtained enough materials to craft all of the characters (although I only got necro and arcane warrior yesterday, stupid CLOTH)

The armour is independent of your level but I'd suggest not going into threatening until atleast lv12, if you have decent dps.

Yeah, 11 levels isn't anything huge. It's what, 6 full funs on Routine? That gives you gold enough for maybe three large chests...

Just play the game, craft the starter armours for the characters you like/want and don't worry about it overly.

The number of matches is pretty irrelevant, the OP is just going to be drastically disappointed with they find out that the higher tier armors will do essentially nothing to improve survivability.

Sure, but it looks way cooler than the base armours..

A few points of dmg reduction here or there matter when archers are filling you with arrows. But no, it doesn't matter that much.

I have a lvl 13, 11, 9, and 8.. Not one single time, have i ever seen an armor drop.. I finally unloked a reaver after all that, about a dozen large chests, and 2-3 free chests via crafting.. This is ridiculous! I trie dmy ass off all weekend to be able to be part of the mace/dagger event, and was not able too, beause i couldnt get the aremor to unlok the characer.. Im finding plenty of metals, some leathers, but barely any cloth..

I never used my mats for any upgrades either.. i wanted to unlock classes first, but at this rate, its going to take several weeks just to unlock classes!

I have promoted 5 times (100 levels) and no armor drops. I generally wait until I save up around 10k gold to buy chests then buy a ton. This only takes about 10 matches. Salvage all those mats and make the armors I want. Sucks but that is how RNG works unfortunately.

Armour is working as designed currently according to BioWare.
