I keep hearing people say that DA3MP has only three maps but there are actually about 3-4 variations for each map. I haven't felt like rebutting these complaints because they are sort of right in the sense that there is currently only three map themes, many of the same textures and sometimes entire environments are reused, and the MP is basically always the same type of gameplay for all existing maps.

But I personally think the people who created the huge maps and all of the variations deserve better than complaints like "there are only three maps". If there was truly only three maps, da3mp would be much worse than it is now. Imo the environments in SP and MP are really great, so much so that I was willing to give SP another few minutes of effort before giving up at the ridiculousness of doing random quests for commoners as the inquisitor that my Bearfighter committed suicide to random angry mages and ended her journey.

Here's 4 variations of the Chateau, standing after the front door.

I thought there were 3 maps. 1 day in the future games will have randomly generated maps. I think that will be amazing.

Interesting.  I was wondering the same.

Needless to say though, adding maps would multiply the fun - as it did in ME3 - so let's hope more are in the pipeline.

As far as I know they are pieced together from large tiles. Each tile is always the same and the only difference is which ones are used and where they are placed on the map. You pretty quickly learn each tile just as you would with a preset map. Honestly I would have preferred half a dozen unique locations (maybe some that aren't ruins), but it's not really a big deal.
