For those of you who watched TGA, did anyone else find it a bit strange and possibly awkward that Casey Hudson was present? He was only on the show for a brief period to award Far Cry 4 "Best Shooter," yet his presence was otherwise unnecessary.

As far as I'm aware, after leaving BioWare he gave us the impression he was taking a break from the industry and games. Do you think he was doing a favor for Geoff Keighley or could this be something else entirely?

It's also worth mentioning there was no news of the next Mass Effect, although Dragon Age Inquisition did win "Game of the Year." I just found it interesting how one of the main creators of Mass Effect still seems to have a presence in the gaming industry when he isn't officially working in it currently.

It led to a brief period of misplaced excitement and then underwhelming disappointment when he served a minor purpose.

EA is trolling Mass Effect fans :D

Seriously though, probably a favor for Geoff or just a gesture of support for Dragon Age Inquisition. I haven't heard anything about Casey after his departure, this is the first news I got. Good to know he's still keeping his finger on the pulse of gaming industry :)

Casey Hudson presence in a videogame award can never be unnecessary. He is a great name in the history of videogames... he elevates the ceremony simply by his presence.

Certainly. At least he is staying relevant and in the public eye. Perhaps he may get tired of his break and get back in the swing of things of making incredible games.

No doubt there, just find it a bit odd a few months after his departure. It's not like Las Vegas is in the neighborhood of where he lives.  Either way, TGA is a great opportunity to celebrate some of the most iconic and legendary developers. Hopefully he'll be back again to receive an award for his iconic work as Game Director on KotOR and the ME trilogy.

He was probably booked before he left Bioware.

He was probably booked before he left Bioware.

That's a possibility, although I'm not sure he would need notice that far in advance. He didn't have a major role in the actual show, itself, so just seems a bit odd. Either way, it was nice to see him there. Perhaps he'll grow bored of "retirement" and decide to start making games again.

Would a great actor/actress or director feel odd in a Oscar?

Considering most of the actors and directors that are present are still working, more than likely no.

I scoured the internet for info on his future plans after I saw him at the VGAs, but nothing turned up.

Casey Hudson, get a job ya bum! (Preferably back at Bioware!)

That's what Greg Miller from IGN told him on twitter lol.

I have a hunch he's working on something new, maybe a kickstarter? It's not uncommon to see big heads butt out of their company and then end up restarting as something smaller.

The two main directors and writers of Telltale's Walking Dead Season 1 left right after and founded their own new game-company. Ken Levine from Irrational closed the studio to work with a small team once again. Ragnar Tørnkvist from FunCom left the studio to work with a new team making the continuations of the Longest Journey Saga under a new studio-name.

I'm sure Casey left to work on something smaller where he has more creative control. In fact I've been thinking for a while that one of the biggest missteps of BIoware lately has been how they tend to increase the writing staff with each game, becuase so far the result has only been worse writing, and I think you can chalk it up to having too many egos who have to downplay their egos and they end up making something they don't genuinely want to tell because they're all just trying to work out their assigned roles.

Maybe he went into professional beer drinking with Greg Zeschuk.

Who could blame him. :)

Yah, I find it kind'a funny that 1.9M people showed up all over the world to watch that show.   The thing that they don't tell you is that 1.8M of them were hoping for some ME related news.

Last I checked, I didn't retroactively ruin an entire video game trilogy.  But hey, what do I know?  ;)

I look forward to hearing what he gets into next. That man is the name behind several of the greatest games I've very played. The industry (and world) needs more Casey Hudsons. Such creative people, with the drive to bring their ideas to realization, don't come along everyday.

That's your opinion, which you're entitled to. Fact of the matter is you also didn't create an entire video game trilogy that's beloved by millions.
