On a side note, how do you beat the very first pride demon as dw rogue? Just started one and I'm dealing 1 damage with auto and 5+5 with twin fangs. I suppose I can just use the inquisitor to disrupt the rift and whittle it down with Varric and Solas, would take much longer than if the main char actually did smth useful though. Also maybe switch to bow and forget about abilities. I have Twin fangs and Flank attack+ and both do nothing.

Your main source of damage is the rift distrusting.

He got too much armor to actually kill "legit":

Pretty much. Whenever you get the chance, Stealth and Flank Attack for the Sunder bonus, but aside from that, disrupt rift and leave it in the hands of your party and the other Inquisition. Do your part by killing the smaller demons that are summoned.

Lol. Just killed him. I somehow got the idea that you only get to disrupt the rift when he puts up his guard to counteract it, but it's actually independent and deals health damage as well. I actually killed him almost "legit" on my mage playthrough (only used rift disruption vs guard).

I haven't invested any points into double daggers yet (lvl 17).  Pretty crazy, I will eventually..maybe. IMO, the passives aren't that great because with Mercy Killing you will be critting 80% of the time anyway while not depending on flanking.  Just trying to do things "different."

Basically, I stealth, shadow strike, sleep, basic hits, shadow strike, spike trap, shadow strike, spike trap, sleep, etc etc etc. Basically so much CC you won't be attacked. I use guard on hit and using upgraded stealth plenty to shed threat and move target to target. With a big group pull of abyss and with AOE daggers all of that hits the entire group.

I like using EM (took a little while to get the range down) and even throwing blades. Adds some range dimension to your play style. I spam EM when I can to support allies and create more CC and fireworks in tight groups and throwing blades when an enemy needs to be finished far away.

The sustained DPS on this is pretty insane. I imagine tempest and assassin might be better for those big one shots you want on bosses that you can't just stick to..but I haven't had too much trouble! This definitely a sustained DPS/Support rather than OMGWTF BIGNUMBERCRIT class. Nonetheless, it's been a blast.

Because I'm dumb, I just realized you can use daggers on Varric, his love affair with Bianca is only missile weapon exclusive.

I do like having Flank Attack and Spinning Blades in the mix.  Spinning Blades with Mercy Killing is a cooldown and Stamina generating machine (9 crits = 4.5 seconds of cooldown and 90 Stamina).  I also liked Flank Attack for another stealth entry, which is pretty fun with upgraded Spike Trap (which I like all the more when your opponent is sleep immune).  I did spec an engame Varric into it, though, so I didn't have to worry about limited skill points.

On the whole, it did feel more skill-based than Tempest - sometimes an ally would push/pull/KD my opponent when I was starting up a Spinning Blades assault and I would whiff causing a gap in my rotation, while Tempest just needs 2 Flank Shadow Strikes during the whole flask rotation and you can loop flasks infinitely (which of which is guaranteed during Lightning and it's pretty easy to land another during Fire), which makes you essentially unkillable.  I did not experiment with Fallback plan, though, which with the aforementioned cooldown tricks might also make the DW Arty just as resilient.  Not sure if the crits you land while the Lantern is active help it cooldown.

+1.  And don't forget stealth -> rezzing your allies.  Using that technique I had more fails on a Mage on Hard (4-5) than I did with a Rogue on NM (0).  Just kept rezzing Solas which let him Barrier Cass again and Stealth-ganking smaller enemies.  Was human, tho, which let me unlock upgraded Flank Attack for lots of aggro dumping.

I am curious, as I was the parties archer rogue in my first [normal] playthrough, I am not starting a nightmare run through as a mage, would sera, with tempest make a better dual wielder or archer? I used tempest on my archer last playthrough and it ended up just being a means of escaping from stalking that got too close or out stepping giant boulders..

Your party members, on Nightmare (and generally, I suppose) make better Archers than DW. Mainly because, the AI is not good with flanking attacks or with dodging damage. AoE kills DW so easily at lower levels, which Rogues are very vulnerable to.

I would love to get spinning blades involved. Might be my next mission. With as many hits it generates, the AOE spam could be pretty phenomenal...plus guard gen. I want to experiment with fall back plan for sure...could add another dimensions of strategy, fun and overall resiliency .

Definitely is more skill based, kinda makes you play like a rogue is supposed to play like it. Overall, it's more entertaining for me.

Or don't rez anyone, let the NPCs take all the aggro while you stealth, use the rift, get in a few hits, stealth, repeat. Worked for me, no problem.

Did the patch fix the deathblow bug?

I finished the game on nightmare without death blow anyway, I don't think it is needed.

Did anyone else find that the further you played in the game, the easier double daggers were to play?

I think every class gets easier, but yes, that was my experience.  Really, it's all about gear...

Agreed! It is way too easy to buff characters with the right schematic and material.
