I'm still waiting for a good deal before buying this game, but I know it has quest markers. I know because every Bioware game since Mass Effect has had them.

 

My question is whether they're optional and whether they're neccessary. Is there a toggle? Does the game give any guidance besides a glowing "go to point A, B then C" light?

 

Because quest markers which act like some omniscient awareness of where all the objectives are at do the opposite of immerse me.

They are optional, think of Skyrim's quest markers, you can click them on, or you can click them off.  And even then, a lot of them show where the area is, then a purple circle shows up saying it's somewhere in this general area, so it won't point exactly to it.
