I vote Mae and Ser Michel
Characters that deserve a spot in the cast of the next game.

Who would I like to see?
Bianca Davri - She's cute, has a great dynamic, has a tragic backstory, and subverts all the dwarven stereotypes.
Ser Barras - He's the templar on your side through Thereinfall. I like the idea of him, a good virtuous Templar, not someone who left the Order like Cullen did.
That's all I can think of right now.

I'd vote against Bianca. Mainly because I don't like her as a character but also because I think her relationship with Varric needs resolution in DAI DLC and that an option for that resolution should be getting them together, finally - I wouldn't take that option, but it should exist.
Also, I wouldn't want the dwarf female spot on the next team taken up by a character that we definitely wouldn't get to romance.

We certainly have a colorful bunch this time around. What I'm curious about though is if they are deserving of a place in the next game's cast. Of course not all of them are worthy of it. But some are defiantly interesting enough.
I'd like to see Mihris, Mae, and Harding expanded on. I think there's a lot of potential to explore with the characters.

I agree with all this, but especially the last part.
Scout Harding is my vote. First female dwarf since Awakening, first female dwarf in general as a companion for a full game and not just an expansion. Looong overdue.
Would rather have a completely new cast than any returning companions taking spots, but would love some cameos or quests involving DAI characters. I love most of them, and I feel like we didn't really get to know some of them that well.

Now, obviously I can't say this with any real certainty, but I strongly think we don't need any returning companions for the next game.
The stated intention for the next game is to take us up north, Tevinter, Seheron, Rivain- somewhere far away from where we've previously explored, somewhere far removed from traditional Theadosian society as we know it, somewhere far removed from the influence of the Southern Chantry.
So, with that in mind, I think it's a fair guess that the next game's plot, at the least, won't be as tightly connected to Inquisition's as Inquisition's was to DA2 or DA2's was to Origins.
That's my hope, anyway. And if they do write a plot that requires someone to exposit regarding the events of Inquisition, I think Harding might be able to suffice there.

I vote for her really big hat instead.

The minor npc inquisition agents would be cool, if you did the dalish side mission you get loranil, he could have a cool story expanded on.

The problem is that it would have to be someone who isn't an LI yet. Otherwise it will drive you insane wondering how they can leave their side for months or years

I think Scout Harding would be a good option for an upgrade to full companion status in the next DA game. I think that any of the Inquisition romance options would be off the table as future party members, so that pretty much rules out most of the Inquisition party. Cole, maybe, could be companion again. Maybe some of the various agents could return later and be party members - Michel de Chevin would be a good choice, and maybe we could get some more Dalish perspectives out of Loranil, the member of the Dalish clan on the Exalted Plains you can get to join.

Ha it'll probably be some character I don't care for like Vivienne or Sera. In awakening we got Oghren back, ugh really? I would've preferred Alistair (if he stayed with the Grey Wardens) or even Zev or Leliana. Tho I was pretty glad to see Anders in DA2 would've liked to seen him in inquisition (if he survived) and for inquisition we got Varric back, eh he's alright definitely not my favorite character but he is funny that's about it.
You know, it's an odd thing in that I both understand why people don't like Oghren and at the same time, am always surprised to hear someone dislikes Oghren.
Anyway, if we accept one of the companions will return as a companion - which is a horrible idea and a pattern Bioware should break - then (unfortunately, if you ask me) Cole is the most likely option.
Love interests are more than likely disqualified. Vivienne could possibly be Divine. Varric's been in two games already and has a stated goal of either following Hawke to the Anderfels or going back to Kirkwall to help rebuild, neither of which take him towards areas likely to be the setting of the next game.
So that leaves Cole. Who will hopefully stay his ass in Skyhold or get turned into a despair demon we get to kill as a bonus boss.

Bull, Dorian and Cole as returning companions, so long as we were playing the Inquisitor. All three seem reasonably well liked and have a lot of potential for relevance in future plots. I'd rather not see Varric again, I felt like he was unnecessary in Inquisition and was there as the token 'bro'. And he looks just like my ex so it's hearbreaking for me to even look at him. Pls Bioware. I can't take it anymore. Cass and Vivienne are both potentially busy elsewhere and I don't see Solas returning as a companion. Blackwall I could take or leave. I'd really rather never see Sera again, companion or otherwise. I'm pretty sure Scout Harding would make a popular rogue companion and she seemed pretty adorable. After those, new characters as companions.
As for plot related NPC's/cameos: Morrigan, Merrill, whoever became the new Divine, Isabela for sheer awesome, Cullen, Josephine, Rhys and Evangeline, Solas, Sten if there is a large Qunari plot.

Harding definitley she was way too likeable stay just a somewhat minor NPC.
Maevaris would be an good fit, but with all the fuss over gay companions I'm not sure I want to see what people have to say about a trans character.
Rhys and Evangeline could be interesting two companions who come as a pair, and if one leaves the party both will.
Kieran, provided he exists and Bioware does another time jump, would be a great choice.
Also, I'd love to see 1. A Loyal Tevinter (Like a Tevinter version of Sten, someone who agrees with the social structure, but is still a likeable interesting character)
2. A Darkspawn Disciple and
3. A Tal-Vashoth

I assume that's only if you side with the Templars, because I went pro-Mage (as per usual) and never saw him after that scene?
I'm pretty sure he's the Red Templar Behemoth you fight when protecting the trebuchets during the attack on Haven...

This. The only characters from all 3 games so far that has a reason to be north is Dorian, and possibly Iron Bull. All of the other companions/advisors have had their story arcs wrapped up pretty well by the end of DAI. Scout harding could have more, but given that she's from the south she'd have no reason to venture north. Dorian is their link to the previous games, so he'd easily serve the "what became of the inquisitior" and "did <insert name here> really become divine" dialogue.

For returning companions specifically, I think Dorian has the most likely chance of coming back. His end of game state is constant no matter what the player does. He'll be going back to Tevinter to try and change things, even if he was romanced.
The endgame states of the other party members however, can vary significantly:
- Cass and Viv could both potentially be Divine, so that obviously takes them out of the running.
- Cole's and Bull's stories could go in completely different directions, and Blackwall can be left to die, so they're out.
- If we're definitely going North in the next game, I'd say that takes Varric out too. Him being anywhere other than Kirkwall after DAI would make no sense.
- Solas clearly will have a big part to play in the future, but I get the feeling that being a companion wouldn't suit him anymore after the ending reveal.
- And Sera is Sera. Not much else to say.
On the NPC-promoted-to-companion side of things, Scout Harding seems like a sure bet, and I am also a supporter of Mae becoming a companion as well. I also get the feeling we'll be seeing Isabela (and her new hat
) again in the future. Not as a companion though, but as an important NPC.
