While Scout Harding is cool, I honestly do not see how she would fit at all in a DA game centered around northern Thedas.

Anyhow, assuming Tevinter is indeed featured, then I agree with the consensus here that Maevaris Tilani should be a companion. Dorian would make sense to come back aswell, but I think i'd rather see him as a NPC in this hypothetical game. Perhaps he raise up a movement in Tevinter with the intent to change it? We do also know from Inquisition that he and Maevaris know each other. :)

Solas will be back that's a given, but he won't be a companion. I actually would love Isabela to return as well, DA2 couldn't do her justice. She's also the Rivaini born daughter of a human qunari, so she'd have good reason to be up north. Actually didn't she go back up north, with the raiders?

No more Isabela, not as a companion. She had her time already in DA2 and I had enough of her then. She can appear as an NPC, and it makes as much sense for her to appear as it would Fenris.

I think maybe Dorian or Bull would make sense to return. I'd prefer Dorian myself because I like him more, but Bull isn't bad either. At least neither of them is Oghren. :)

I think the Oghren of this game for me is Sera and it wouldn't make much sense for her to go haring off north.

Nobody compares to Oghren, he's probably DA's worst character if not Bioware's worst. He's rude, disgusting, confrontational, unfunny, cliche, and a completely insensitive portrayal of an addict, among many other things.

Also why you no want Bella? Sure she had her time but so did Dorian, and it makes perfect sense for her to be up north as both a pirate, and a Rivaini.

Sent as an agent of the Inquisition to scout out what's going on up north or some such.

Easy.  "The Inquisitor sends his/her deepest apologies that s/he can't attend this [fill in the blank event], but sends you a gift in the form of one of his/her most prized assets."  Enter Scout Harding, female dwarf companion, love interest, and all around badass.

Simple as pie.

Also, YES to Maevaris.  And yes to Dorian, but only as an NPC.  Don't want my canon quizzie's boo adventuring without him......

I don't think it'll happen, but I'd love Cole back. I feel like even after his personal quest there's so much more to come for him.

Dorian too, of course. I can't function properly without him and his game breaking magic.  <3

Oghren wins my "most underrated character" award in the DA series. I don't find his obvious struggles with alcoholism insensitive, although I do suppose since his drunken rants are often played for laughs, it tends to fly past a lot of people (not you, obviously) that he's an alcoholic and that this is a really sad thing. It's also why I don't find him "cliche," however. Hard drinking dwarves can be, but I find Oghren is more of a subversion of it (because other dwarves consider him to be what he is: an alcoholic).

He's a sad character with a sad life, and most people, even within the universe, don't even notice. And that makes it even sadder to me. I love Oghren, dang it.

Of the current companions, could get some more mileage out of Bull and Dorian.

I didn't say I hated Isabela exactly; I'm just not fond of her. She was just too prone to turning everything into sexual innuendo for my taste. I'd be happy see her again. I just don't want her as a companion because I probably wouldn't use her much as I find a little of her goes a very long way with me. And for the record, I loved Fenris, but I acknowledge that he'd probably get the same treatment as Isabela. Fair is fair. If she is just an NPC, then he shouldn't be anything more than an NPC, too. Besides, if BioWare holds to its current trend, it's not like you'd get any action out of either ... well, maybe Isabela but likely not Fenris. That narrows the romance options. How many were upset over not being able to romance Leliana and/or Morrigan even though they had already done so with their Wardens?

No matter who gets included, assuming any do, they wouldn't be romanceable because of the Quizzie and/or Hawke.

That's just another reason to want them as NPCs rather than regular companions. Perhaps they could play advisor-style roles?

Different strokes for different folks I guess, I loved Isabela, despite her rough life (or perhaps because of it), she's easy going, non judgemental, and just pure fun. Fenris is the exact opposite of all those things, if Anders, and Sebastian didn't exist, Fenris would be my least favorite of DA2's cast.

This. Oghren is one of my favorite characters in the whole of Dragon Age(Up there with Loghain, Sten, and Morrigan) specifically because he is such a flawed, broken person who never the less manages to be funny, badass, and heartwarming when he needs to be.

Harding deserves it just on the merit of putting up with all the heralds sexual harrassment.

Of course not all of them are worthy of it

Harding is the first character that has made me legitimately uncomfortable not because of her own actions, but because of the way people react to her.

Is this the "good" version of being a creep that these "nice guys" keep talking about?

Yeah but she actually likes being flirted with, and has a crush on the Inquisitor. I'm not really why some people think coming on to Harding is any worse than coming on to Companions/Advisors, they all serve under you.

I have to ask...do you want these characters in the next game because you think of them truly interesting? Or is it you just want to bed them?

Solas: both

Scout Harding, Isabella, .. (all others): because they are interesting :)

Well, if this is our criteria, I definitely nominate Abelas, even though we only see him for a minute or two.

Solas: Not as a companion... But we NEED answers.

Flemeth: She was creepier than ever in DAI and I want her more than Solas. Lets have a doppelganger show up. How does that work, eh? She gets "released" in Kirkwall even if you don't kill her in DAO, right? Then there are two of her. That'd explain why Witches of the Wild got all the way up in Antiva or whatever.

Iron Bull: Not as a companion, but if we're in Qunari/Tevinter Lands it'd be nice to see him.

Dorian: He didn't really do much to redeem Tevinter, did he? Sure he helped us out, but public opinion of Tevinter only got worse in the end I imagine.

Isabela: I want her BACK. She was hilarious. And I think it'd be interesting to have a romance option from an old game again, it'd make more sense for her than for someone monogamous like Leliana, who wasn't an option due to that.

Maeveris Tilani: I haven't read the books, but I think that'd be so cool to have her in the game. It'd make sense for Tevinter, and she has a cool name.

 Sten: Qunari.

So many more I could think of... You can really run with that Tevinter/Qunari Lands idea.

I just hope an extension where Solas will be the central plot and, maybe, the evildoer!

As long as the Solas situation is cleared up with DLC I would be ok with him having a small cameo, if however we're talking about companions? Abelas, Abelas, Abelas.....I crushed on that guy hard. Oh and scout Harding because she was adorbs!

Scout Harding has earned her companion spot and hopefully a romance too. She is top of the list.

But I also agree with Abelas. He seems like he could have a lot of potential.

An exiled Gaspard might make for an interesting cameo; I don't think they establish where he goes when banished from the Empire.
