Probably Maevaris, she's sassy and awesome, has connection to previous characters like Dorian, Varric, Isabela, and Alistair. She's also a Tevinter mage that doesn't treat every non-mage as trash.

Is it confirmed that Calpernia lives? I talked her out of a fight in my playthrough but it wasn't clear whether or not she survived her fight with Corypheus.

I'll agree with the return of Dorian or Iron Bull.
I disagree with why Varric didn't work well as a companion in Inquisition. I think Bioware has put a lot of work into Varric and his back story (him being a surface dwarf, his books, Bianca). Just because he isn't a bastard son of a king or a mysterious witch of the wilds or an ex-slave of Tevinter doesn't mean he isn't interesting.
I think he just failed to live up to the bar he set in DA2. He was always making me laugh about something in that game and this time around it was only occasionally (a handful of banters, wicked grace, and Cassandra scenes). It's probably appropriate given the recent events in Kirkwall but I don't think making a like-able character automatically=bad companion. Nor do I think a dramatic and complex past automatically = awesomeness. (What's wrong with like-able anyway? Isn't Iron Bull like-able? Or does he get a pass as a Qunari that automatically makes him more complex?)

They wrote themselves into corners with a lot of characters in this game, hawke could die, so high possibility of not being a companion in another game, cassandra and viviene could become divine, so high possibility of them not being future companions, Krem of the chargers could die, so thats out, maybe scout harding.... but i doubt the inquisition would let its murder princess go.... Varric will probably pop in somehow in the next one, just to satisfy the varric romancers... Solas would probably pop into the game, but not as a companion, if his story isnt wrapped up in dlc. Knock Cullen off the list, he finishes with the inquisition.... Dorian and Iron Bull I could see returning, especially if the game takes place in tevinter. I really liked ser Barris of the templars, i would like to see him as a companion. But we have no idea what happens to him if you went the mage route.... We never found out what happened to connor either at the end of both stories (we saw him kill himself in the future, but what about the past... and what happened to him if you sided with the templars?)

Anders and Seabass, if only so that I can catch them about to kill each other and stick a fuckin' dagger in Choir Boy's throat.

I wouldn't mind having Krem as a companion. They could always say he was captured instead of killed if you took that path.

Basically, give me a female dwarf!!!!
Or even a non-Ohgren acting dwarf. Someone like The personal guard from the dwarven noble story in Origins would also be awesome.
But mostly Dagna and Harding.

How is this writing themselves into a corner? The multiple possible outcomes for these characters simply means they aren't likely to show up in the next game outside of dialogue reference. Given Bioware has repeatedly stated they intend to move north next, this makes 100% sense. Giving us multiple ways to end these character arcs isn't writing themselves into a corner at all. The only character in Inquisition that mentions going north is Dorian, so he's likely to be the returning character that will be the info dump on what the other characters are doing. Every other companion/advisor has commitments they plan to fulfill by the end of the game. Varric's story arc is finished, just like the other companions aside from Dorian, who is the only companion who has 1 outcome: heading home to change things. Solas will most likely serve a backgroundish role, similar to Flemmeth.
None. I want new characters not old ones.
This. With the exception of Dorian, moving to northern Thedas gives the devs an opportunity to give us an entirely new cast. This is why so many companions/characters in DAI had closure and multiple endings. (i.e. Cass as divine, reform seekers, staying with inquisiton. Or Leliana divine, returning with Warden.)

Knowing what happens with the characters and possible endings for them I assume the characters that are possible to reappear would be: Dorian, Sera and Scout Harding, and just my personal wish for Krem.
And I miss Sigrun so much T_T
Upd: forgot that Krem could not be available. Then maybe Bull.

Harding would have to have a good reason to go north. She grew up in the Hinterlands, not much sense for her to be out in Tevinter/Anderfels.

Varric works very well as a team mom. The problem with including him in future games is to have an excuse to have him around to fill that role. In DA:II he became like that after 10 years of close ties, in DA:I it was a matter of neccessity and him realizing he just had to do his best to keep everyone happy at the right times.

As much as I think it would be cool to see Krem show back up so that we could learn a bit more about his character, the fact that he's probably not available in many player's playthroughs makes that difficult. He could show up at some point in a minor role, but to have him be a companion is probably out of the question. Unless they retcon the outcome of that quest or have two characters that could fill that 'role' (a la Kaidan and Ashley), I just think it's too complicated.
