Hoping they stay away from Tevinter; writing more "blame the mages" bullsh*t is not what we need. Even though that's exactly what they'll do because of "artistic integrity".

---------------------------------------------------------------------snip------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really hate what they've done with Tevinter, they had a very interesting set-up with lots of moral conundrums. Is a mageocracy really worse than the south's oligarchies? Does the south really have the right to condemn slavery when you compare the coditions of their alienages?. Plus the allure of an entire society based on mental will, and arcane scholarship, how cool is that?

In-game they threw the entire thing out the window to give us a country of mustache twirlers, who provide nothing to the narrative besides a go to foreign villain. Even the Qunari are sometimes portrayed sympathetically (Sten), with Tevinter the only "good" ones, are political dissidents who want to completely upend society (Dorian), slaves (Fenris, Tallis), or complete neutrals who care nothing about Tevinter culture or customs (Krem).

So yes I agree stay away from Tevinter, or at least portray in a more morally grey light.

Cameos:

Solas. <3 (after a dlc...)

Would also like to see Josie again, tbh. And Empress Celene.

Actual party/companion wise: Scout Harding. Maybe Krem, too!

As someone who spared Anders, I'd like to see him back so we can properly free him from Justice, who never seems to get any of the blame for his role in Anders going off the deep end in DA2. Since our Inquisitor has the power to punch a hole into the Fade and can seemingly banish demons at will, it'd be nice to see if they can also seperate the two of them and punt that meddlesome spirit back into the Fade where he belongs?

I don't blame beer when a drunk driver kills someone behind the wheel, I blame the guy who decided not to call a cab.

That being said, I'm personally in favor of Anders and/or Justice/Vengeance appearing at some point; I never spare Anders, but I don't think those who did should be denied. And Justice was perhaps my second favorite Awakening companion, so I would like the chance to either redeem him or finally put him out of his misery.

But the thing is, and I've been saying this about a lot of characters, but I think the Anders/Justice encounter is best suited for DAI DLC and not DA4. I can't imagine the Mage/Templar war is going to be much of a factor in the next game, if at all, where as even though it wasn't the primary conflict it was never the less a major one in DAI, one that personally affected most of our companions. Anders' story is intimately entwined with the mage/templar war, and should be wrapped up by the Inquisition where parties like Cassandra, Cullen, Varric, and Vivienne can be involved to weigh in on it.

yea, I would love to play a rogue with a rapier or spear(like Oberyn)

but as we are headed north, I wonder who of are current cast makes sense to go north?

Of former companions Dorian and Iron Bull make the most sense. Dorian is Tevinter and stated a desire to return home eventually, and The Iron Bull is a Qunari agent who used to operate out of Seheron.

Also, the Hero of Ferelden. It was hinted that something weird was going on at Weisshaupt. Why not have him (or her) feature into the next game, sort of like how Hawke did in DA:I?

Cassandra, though that's not so much a "this character would work" choice as much as a selfish choice (unless we go to Nevarra or the seekers are somehow involved). She's my favourite character in the whole of the Dragon Age setting.

I'd think Dorian and Iron Bull would make the most sense if we're off to Tevinter.

Solas for obvious reasons (though I hope his story is wrapped up in a dlc.)

Also whoever was made Divine at the end of your game. Cass, Vivienne or Leliana.

Varric didn't work very well because he's not a very good character begin with. He's always been a disaster when it comes to writing because they focus too much on making him likeable and a "bro" rather than making him interesting and complex.

As someone who has always liked Varric a lot, I have to agree that he seems a bit shoehorned into the fan favorite role.

Tallis was worse. At least they didn't have to make Varric a hypocrite or a mary sue to try and make the character likeable. Or give him his own fanfic dlc.

Yeah, it seems that they learned their lesson when it came to writing Bull and Gaat, who despite believing that the Qun is the best philosophy out there, freely admit that the Qun has things about it that they consider problems and want to see changed.

Tallis on the other hand, just seemed content to brush the more unsavoury parts of the Qun under the rug and when called out on them, would simply act as if it was far beyond the limited understanding of the people she was talking too.

Sure, the Arishok and Sten would sometimes veer into this, but they at least came across as sincere in their beliefs enough that this was simply a clash of cultures at work, rather than Tallis overzealous attitude towards the Qun being an absolute Mary-Suetopia. With Tallis, it often seemed like she was someone who if the Qun demanded that she kick an old age pensioner in the nads, she'd not only go through with it, but when asked why, would refuse to give a straight answer, while pretending it was the morally superior thing to do?

Zevran: I think it's time for him to return. Morrigan, Leliana and Alistair have been around more than enough but what about Zev? One buggy cameo on DA2 and short mention in DAI.. yep its time for some Zevran. I want him in important position, not just poorly done cameo.

It'd be intresting if next game was based on Tevinter vs Par Vollen war. Then cameos or bigger roles for Dorian, Iron Bull and Sten (or Arishok but.. you know who I mean).

Also I want to see Architect. He is one of most intriguing character, he should return. Sandal as well, just where that little enchantment-maniac is?

Sandal definitely needs to return, I was a little disappointed that we didn't see him in Val Royeaux or with the Empress at Halamshiral. I expected at least a mention at the war table or from Dagna, who'd probably have run into them in her line of work at some point?

For those of you saying "So and so can't be a companion because they could die in the inquisition" ...

Um- wouldn't be the first time Bioware resurrected someone from the dead...

Or did nobody "kill" Leliana in Origins?

Leliana was left for dead. You can't connect game mechanics with the actual canon. I decapitated Howe and he did the "Maker spit on you!" Line without his head. As much as you like to believed that the warden is a total badass, they are still inexperienced. And would be most likely fooled if Leliana faked her death. And Zevran is by no means a master assassin and could be fooled by Leliana.

not to mention.. anders. anders is a much bigger issue IMO.

Anyways, as we are going north, not every character would have a reason to go north. But I am hoping we see Mae, she seems rather interesting of a character, plus a dwarf lover :D

My views on Tallis amount to this:

Maybe in a future installment we can put her out of our misery like we could put down Fiona in this one?

That having been said, am I allowed to cast yet another vote for Abelas?

No one them rly i don't meet 500 old characters every game as i said Thedas isn't world with 1000 peoples and size of small city and they make you feel as it does with returning characters pretty much now i hope they are done with leliana , cullen and alistair pretty much they push them into most products (save for cullen but he was in 3 games already).

Well only character that i would want is pretty much solas to finish that pre-longed plot finally.

As a companion, none from this game. I actually don't like the idea of bringing over characters from each game, while references and missions can relate, I like the idea of characters being different each time. For example, Anders shouldn't have been part of DA2 cast while Isabela was background in DA:O yet made the jump to main cast in DA2.

I'd really like Cullen as a team member next time. Also, I'd like to see Jowan again and from DA:I, Servis the Venitori character you can recruit as an agent. I like the idea that there is a guy who is very selfish but willing to do what is for the right cause, as long as the right cause benefits him.

Personally I'd like to just see the next DA game have an all new cast and not a series of cameos. Inquisition tied the other two games together in its own way but I'd hate for it to be dragged on. That said:

Wouldn't mind Scout Harding returning as a companion. She could act as an Intel gatherer/informant/liaison of the Inquisition.

Ser Barris, but only if he's the 'leading human man' and LI.

Iron Bull is a given due to his status as a Ben Hassrath (and potentially Tal-Vashoth). But a cameo not a squad mate. Would prefer a new qunari (ideally a male and female, one could be a fog warrior the other a Qun traditionalist).

Maevaris would also be great, both as an important magister AND a squadmate. Either one so long as she makes the game.

Maybe, and I mean a small maybe, to Solas provided DLC doesn't provide a resolution to his role. Only because ancient magic and Tevinter even though I hope DA4 focuses more on qunari, Tevinter and Kal-Shirok/dwarves and less Chantry.
