Put your character close and facing the door. Select any other party member. You character should go through. But I think you're missing something you should be able to open the door if you have all of the key components.

ok the glitch is not working on the console version, so basically if you turn the key in you can not get the mosaic in the grotto, but if you open the door and get the mosaic you can not turn the key in and get the rep bonus to acquire the dalish agent
You can kill the spirits, without disturbing the graves, turn in the quest, get the rep bonus, then go back, open the graves and and get the key, open the door. Even if you open the door and don't get the rep bonus you can still get enough rep from the other quests to get the agent.
As for the glitch, not sure how it is on console, but on pc when you change characters your main moves forward a little. So when you put it in fron of a door and change characters it can move through the door. Try it several times, might work.

Yes you can kill the spirits in the ruin with out disturbing the grave, but to get the key from the graves you have to disturb them. There is an option to turn the key pieces that open up the Grotto in to the Keeper. When you do he says something like the key has been lost for ages and thought to never be seen again and thanks you for it, but follows with though my hunters saw you violate the graves of our dead and that is unforgivable.
I made the error of turning them in before entering the grotto. Since there are two parts to the area there one is riding the ruin of the visible spirit creatures, the other is after loot the graves you fight a spirit being at each grave and the key pieces are looted off them.

When you change on the console with your main pressed up to the door, he back steps some. Normally he steps forward like you mentioned but for some reason there he back steps.

Read my previous post. To get max rep from this quest you don't need to disturb the graves initially. Just kill the spirits without disturbing, go and turn in the quest(He will thank you without saying anything about the hunters seeing you or something). You will get the max rep bonus. After that you can go back and disturb the graves and get the key. If you talk to him again, the keeper wont say anything about it since the spirit quest was already complete, and you will still have the max rep bonus.

Any luck getting into Unadin grotto after giving the keeper the key. The mosaic piece and the last Hinterlands piece are all that I need.

Also- it's possible to earn max Dalish favor and still break into the grotto. Don't know if it was a glitch or if it's supposed to happen like this but without even thinking I just cleared out the area then went to go talk to the keeper.
I was given +3 for clearing out demons and -3 for desecrating graves. If you do all the other favors, including the one elf's supply list, you can still get max approval.
There is also a quest in the emerald graves, emerald knights or knights hall (basically a dungeon) where you learn what really happened at Red Crossing. The artifact you recover can be sold to the chantry or turned over to the Dalish. I already had max approval when it gave it to the Dalish, so no approval rating showed up on screen but I was thinking it might earn you approval as well. (But I'm not 100% sure).

I just managed to get in without the key by doing the horse mount trick. Took a few goes but eventually worked. You just have to make sure the mount is parallel with the door and the camera angle facing out towards the graves. hope it helps.

Actually no. If you use the mount trick, you can get through the door without a key. Basically line up the mount parallel to the door, the side which the inquisitor usually dismounts. It takes a bit of maneuvering but done right, you'll dismount right through the door. Your companions will automatically follow you once you're inside. However, since you have no key, you cannot open the door to get out so you have to repeat the mount trick. The mount can be summoned inside the tomb.
The attempts may fail with you not appearing inside or outside the tomb, however, you should check where your companions have appeared once you dismount. If one of them is either inside/outside, just switch over.

^^Thank you.. I will sure try that. I think they could have written it a little different for people like me who would never do that (desecrate a grave) even in a game. ![]()

The way I see it is that the demons already did the desecrating. What you are doing is putting the place to rest by getting rid of the demons.

Um, the demons roving outside may not necessarily be the restless spirits from the graves but from the rifts nearby. Moreover, breaking open the graves disturb the dead that their spirits appear, that's how I see it anyway.
I wish the devs would follow the chain of thought among the companions. Varric would say something about leaving the graves alone but then if the inquisitor break open the graves, there's no feedback from anyone.
It's a dopy quest imo. Is there a point to opening that blasted tomb in the first place? We players know there is a mosiac piece inside (the devs shouldn't put it in there), but story wise?

Yeah, it's probably best not to expect this quest to make too much sense.
It's possible to complete The Spoils of Desecration and still gain maximum Dalish approval, but you have to be patient about it. If you complete A Well-Stocked camp, Something to Lose, the Golden Halla, retrieve the amulet from the temple of Sylaise, and clear the demons out of the graveyard without desecrating any tombs, you'll have enough to recruit Loranil, even if you're human. It helps if you mention favorable dealings with the hunter you met on the way in. Once you have won the favor of the Dalish, recruited Loranil, and have gained access to the shop, you can go ahead and break open the graves and the Keeper never says a word about it.
