As an unrepentant lover of DA2, whether Hawke is left in the Fade or moves on to Weisshaupt it's maddening to be left hanging. Of course that was probably on purpose. If this isn't a possible opening for events in a future game, a sufficiently robust DLC adventure (along the lines of Legacy, Mark of the Assassin, or Citadel in ME3) centered on it is certainly something I would buy. So I thought I'd throw that out there because why not.

Mount a rescue mission to the Fade with Hawke's LI. They've seen Hawke's peril through dreams in the Fade and know Hawke is alive. Then travel to Weisshaupt to find out what's up. Hawke could already be there with their LI if Hawke wasn't left behind, and you were rescuing Stroud, Alistair or Loghain instead because the Warden's need a leader, and Hawke's the one who has been having dreams of their peril instead.

I can imagine a scene of whoever was left behind being tormented with visions of their fears and failures by the Nightmare. Why would a demon want to kill them when they could be a steady source of fear to feed on, after all?

Anyone else have thoughts?

I hope not, I prefer to forget DA2 and that includes Hawke. It just serves as a painful reminder.

I stated it many times, as much as people want to invalidate and ignore DA2's existence, it was there and it will always be there. It will never disappear. I personally hope to see more of Hawke and the former companions in future expansions and games.

well they had their chance to bring back the companions form DA2 and we got one of them, all the others are off screen, I anticipate this will hold true for future games as its what happened to the Origins cast, excepting Leliana and Morrigan.

Also Hawke can die, so I doubt they will be getting any attention in DLC

Didja read the OP at all? Sides, the way whoever is left behind goes out is so clearly purposefully vague. The game even only says they'll "likely die" and you don't actually see what happens to them. That's writers leaving themselves an opening in case they want to do anything with it.

Did Hawke Die? Because I like the idea of one day opening a rift into the fade, and Hawke appears Jumanji style.

Yeah, there's a slim chance Stroud, Loghain, Alistair or Hawke could survive or find a way out in a different location. The Maker works in mysterious ways.

I guess that whoever gets left behind becomes possessed by the Nightmare demon who uses his victims smaller size to leave the fade from a smaller rift.

The sadist in me would have Hawke either under the sway of the Nightmare or lost in the Fade riddled with guilt seeing visions of their dead family members, and think their LI's presence is another cruel trick of the Fade at first. Loghain would probably have some interesting guilt too, Duncan, Marik, Calin, all the blood on his hands, probably regrets over how his daughter must feel toward him now. Alistair and Stroud are probably less complex, but hey, this is just the rough draft outline of my dream DLC that I've been demented enough to devote time to thinking about lol.

True Ravenloft style ending...

You find your way back to the fade and see Hawke sitting alone. Emaciated, gaunt, skin covered with ichor and dried blood. Along with you is Hawke's love interest, whoever it was. Hawke regards your small group as you approach him and then shouts "Stop toying with me!" as Hawke stabs his own Li through the heart. After a grim fight you subdue Hawke and Hawke finally realizes that you were not demons after all..but its too late.

That'd make a great optional screw-up that could happen, but my heart couldn't bear that being the only option. Ah this is all completely hypothetical anyway.

I have no doubt Hawke survives, since Inquisition is more or less a love letter to DA2. The Mage Rebellion is a direct result of "Ander's" going nuts and exercising the nuclear option. The Big Bad is from DA2 DLC. Hawke shows up to save the day in the Fade (potentially). Varric is a companion again. Red lyrium is all over the place. Cullen is large and in charge after being recruited after Kirkwall.
Anything from Origins aside from Lelianna and Morrigan are quickly and quietly glossed over, and the Warden is tossed off in a corner to be forgotten.

So yeah, I'm firmly expecting a DLC for Hawke. Hawke's Return: The Re-Hawkening (aka See?! Dragon Age 2 was awesome!)

... but I'm not bitter.
