The ability to have two switchable weapon sets would be useful

As I can't get into my inventory screen during combat having the ability to have two sets of weapons that I can switch between would be a useful feature.

Too many times has my mage's staff's basic attack been useless because I couldn't switch out for a more effective weapon.

Signed.

Bloody stupid restriction. Worked well in DA:O

Would be handy for archer rouges too, to be able to switch to daggers when a melee enemy gets too close.

If you fail to win a fight using a bow that you've invested all your talent points in then I doubt you'll do much better by auto attacking with daggers.

Choice is always better. Heck Id say copy Dark Souls on this one and have a way to switch between a set of favorite weapons..like maybe 3-5 sets

Again, I think this is yet another "limitation placed by the console/controller" during the development phase.

Think about it- if you're using a controller, how would you switch between sets? You'd have to dedicate a button to it, of course.

So they're limited by the amount of button slots, and decided to drop 2-set support during development.

We could switch between weapon sets in DA:O by using the radial menu on consoles... we could also access all of our learned spells or talents using the radial menu in both DA:O and DA2, so consoles are not to blame for either of these problems.  It's just a bad design decision, nothing more.

Heck, even if they didn't want us to be able to swap things around quickly, they could have at least left the inventory unlocked during battle... it's obvious that this is a design choice, yet people are always quick to blame consoles for everything even when the answer is right in front of them...

OK, I'll concede that may be a functionality they could have offered, but didn't. I still believe the overall reason was limitations of a console interface design, not because of "bad design". It's pretty obvious a lot had been stripped out even in DA2- and the trend continued with DA:I- along with clunky mouse & keyboard controls, etc. Of course, we'll probably differ (and that's OK) on this. I own DA:O on Xbox 360 as well as PC, and I also own a 360 Controller for PC- I just happen to prefer keyboard/mouse over controllers, personally. I find controllers to be a little "simplistic" for my tastes, as well as ergonomically wasteful/inefficient (moving fingers further than they need to go, compared to WSAD, 1-0, etc.) but again- my opinion and taste.

It was a design choice. Specifically for you to have make a decision about what to bring to combat.

In DA II I had a choice which staff to use, when an enemy had immunities. If you don't allow to switch weapons during combat, let all weapons be equally effective.

Badly missed. Another feature that worked well that was removed... Combat can get very repetitive, being able to occasionally switch to ranged would cut down a lot of it.

DA:O - lelliana, set tactics to use ranged then switch to dual daggers when being attacked. Worked beautifully, and took seconds to set up, but you can't reach anywhere near the tactical depth of something like that now unfortunately... And that was probably the most basic example.

I bring a bow to combat. And a buckler on my back, with a short sword strapped to my waist. And daggers attached to calf bands.

Why I can't throw the bow away and grab my daggers is puzzling.

You failed your saving throw and now your daggers are glued to your calves until the next round :P

I bring several things to combat. I should be able to switch to a more appropriate Staff weapon after dispatching a rage demon, when a despair demon shows up.

It's sad when developers work only for money.

Damn my tactical choice of a glue pistol as ranged backup.

Just a thought.

. Use tac-cam ti identify target and get their info on weakness and immunity.

. Back out far away so that you CAN use the inventory menu

. Select weapon and go back in.

It's a bypass to the lock the inventory nonsense but is consistent with choices have consequesnces mantra

What are they supposed to work for? Fan praises? Doesnt pay the bills feed the family or other things.

As a games developer unless you are an exec producer or director you don't really get much of a say

I would *love* if my companions suggested me which weapons to use. Varric, crying 'use your daggers now, you stupid piece of sh*t!', - would be a lot of fun :)

If there were no such thing as enthusiasm, this world would have collapsed long ago.

That's what I do. Still doesn't work in every situation as quite often enemies with one elemental weakness are on the field, and other enemies are resistant to another weakness.

Simpler if they'd just give access to the inventory. We still need to be prepared and be equipped for every eventuality. If we leave our ice staff back in skyhold and a rage demon shows up, well that's one thing, but if we have our ice staff in the inventory, we should be able to switch to it after battling a despair demon for example.

Quick switch system would also mean more time playing the game than digging into the inventory all the time.

Agreed.

They mentioned on one of the Twitch live streams before release that the limited pc hotbar was a design choice, to encourage people to be tactical and pre-plan. I expect it's the same case here. However, given that you won't know what you need to gain an advantage in a fight until you're already locked in combat and can't access your inventory or the rest of your abilities, it seems completely arbitrary. Any pre-planning you do will be based on guess-work, which is certainly not tactical.

Is it too much to ask for the ability for Varric to swap out his bow for poisoned dual daggers when the enemy gets in his face? Or maybe I should just keep smacking the enemy about the head with my bow? ;)

I totally forgot about this option in Origins, that would be great to have again! Especially when some of the abilities you use for the rogue especially are between daggers and bow and arrows.
