DPS is the best CC
Says every rogue wanting to play perilous, shortly before entering the fade on round one wave two-- sometimes even wave one.

Barrier, Fade Cloak (or fade step), Static Cage / Lightning Cage & Disruption field (upgraded).
Pure support, requires no gear to be effective (as all those skills are not weapon damage dependent).
I'd agree pre-patch. but now Disruption field is honestly so weak and so rarely triggers on anything, let alone anything worth while. So I run Lightning to supplement that instead with the other 3 skill you listed, which provides me with some level of damage output [useful on threatening, less useful on perilous] in case my team isn't balanced well enough.

It is worth noting that the amount of Barrier listed for the skill is, of course, based on your weapon's damage. Seriously, look at the total strength of Barrier and then switch your weapon, the listed value will change. This applies to both the Keeper (150% max) and the Elementalist (200% max). I would assume that this is the case for the Arcane Warrior as well and that the total Barrier is 100% max as calculated using weapon damage.

Eh..
my legionnaire is dps spec and still tanks.
my keeper is dps spec and still has maxed barrier.
Dps -is- important. Thing with rogues is they -only- provide dps
Oh and my friends Templars tank and dps at the same time as well. Mine Will too when I get around to playing it again

I did say rogues, didn't I? I've never seen a pug rogue bring survival skills, and they are high on the aggro table, very often targetted first.
However, DPS is not CC, and definitely is not survival-- let alone tanking. Your other kits have them, rogues don't typically bring them.

Disruption field still works, however it requires the enemy to melee while inside it to trigger. It does not work for enemies to simply run through while no one is inside as a bait-- except as matrix slow-motion arrow / projectile catcher. I use it all the time on doorways and bosses. I like to run up to friendly melee with fade cloak, enjoy decloaking blast and disruption field their targets. I would also static cage a group, run up there and do the same thing to large groups of targets that are otherwise helpless. I'm a bit nuts as a keeper, but it is very fun doing what I do.
There's other options as well. Fade/frost step is always useful. Veil strike into static cage --> aoe sleep --> setup for massive crits and team combo detonate. The point is the keeper does not do signifigant damage on perilous and is harming their survivability and team survivability skills by bringing lol-lightning instead of anything else. That is especially true when the keeper is undergeared with no end game high damage staff. The keeper is better off having four survival / cc skills than putting dps that doesn't actually kill anything and takes mana & casting time away from other survival skills.

I found Barrier / Chain Lightning / Fade Cloak / Dispel a very powerful build.
You focus on putting barrier on your teammates, and the rest of the time you do Chain Lightning as an detonator for stuff your teammates put on enemies. There usually is a Necromancer or Elementalist around. If not, you cast Dispel. The advantage of this over Static Cage is that Static Cage will leave you vulnerable because it is so expensive mana-wise, and it has a long cooldown. Chain Lightning and Dispel have ridiculously short cooldowns, in particular when you chose the right passives.
If I understood it correctly, Dispel will act as detonator for the Shocked status effect that Chain Lightning puts on the enemies.
I rarely get to test this because I'm playing on Threatening and usually Chain Lightning is enough to take everybody out with the team also mauling them and all.
I will promote this keeper soon to switch out Fade Cloak for Fade Step though. Fade Step is more versatile and gets you away from the Demon Commander, too.

The only effects that can be detonated are Stun, Sleep, Freeze or Paralyze. In order to detonate it must use a cross-class detonator type. So Stun (Warrior) can be detonated by Precision (Rogue) or Eldritch (Mage). Sleep (Rogue) can be detonated by Impact (Warrior) or Eldritch (Mage). And lastly, Freeze or Paralyze (Mage) can be detonated by Impact (Warrior) or Precision (Rogue).
Some classes have access to cross-class effects or detonators so be aware when trying to setup a combo. A party of Mages, for example, need to sleep (Weaken+Shock) or Stun the target to use an Eldritch detonator. Likewise if using an Elementalist or Arcane Warrior, they can detonate a Frozen or Paralyzed target with Stonefist (Impact).

Was disruption field changed in hotfix? Just yesterday I played my keeper and it now works exactly as description says, taking it's sweet time to slow anything down. Together with huge cost and long cooldown it doesn't seem even remotely useful now.

Arrows frozen mid air will also damage players who run into them. Even after the field has expired. Very annoying, especially on perilous. Disruption field is a waste of a slot imo.

What bothers me most about Keeper is how little it offers in comparison to Elementalist with Barrier. Sure, its a starting class, but having it just as such reduces variety. There is no question in my mind that some players can faceroll Perilous with Keeper. Point being they could faceroll even more with Elementalist and in this sense what does Keeper offer? Static Cage/EB. If it had something like cast-able Walking Fortress or something.

Some people say Chain Lightning is a waste on perilous but isn't it good to get barriers cooldown to take less time? I did Veilstrike/Disruption/Static/Barrier yesterday in my first game of perilous but found it hard to constantly keep a barrier on the tank, so I went and got chain lightning back.

I am think I am settling on Barrier, Static Cage, Veil Strike, and trying to figure out the 4th.
Fade step is fun, but not particularly useful given lack of critical positioning requirements for using Keeper skills outside Disruption Field, which is tragically meh now.
It more or less comes down to Chain Lightning for easy AoE shocking or Energy Barrage for burst damage. WTB 5th skill slot ![]()

Can't agree with your fade step assessment.

Ah man, but I had just specced into your Elemental Vanguard Keeper build. ![]()
I don't particularly want to promote and start over again, but if Disruption Field is as bad as everyone says it is I will have to rethink my power selection. Does anyone have any good perilous builds for a Support/CC Hybrid Keeper? I have a common lvl 23 Zealot's Staff with 144 DPS if that matters.
