I am not deaf and I do speak English, but for my own reasons I usually prefer not to use voice chat.  In fact, I kind of detest having no option to turn off others' voice chat, too, especially when they don't have push-to-talk on and I have to listen to their background noise/the sound of the game--including my own voice--coming back at me from their speakers.

So yes, I definitely support the addition of a text chat to the PC multiplayer.

That said, I know a lot of people use controllers even on the PC, so maybe they didn't think it was worthwhile.  I'm still not sure why they didn't add it into ME3; there was actually a control for it, but it didn't work.  So obviously it had been there for ME3, but they took it out for whatever reason.

Yeah. I was going to get ME3 just for multiplayer since I already have completed story on ps3 and xbox360. But turned out that there is no text chat also so I changed my mind. I wished they did have it, though because I would buy again. More money go to Bioware.

Why would that be too much to ask? They knew the better not to take out text chat for PC. After all it is PC! :(

And a lot of features are missing for PC players if you didn't know : http://forum.bioware...unity-concerns/

So I'm sorry to say that before Bioware make your chatbow I would prefer them to bring back first the mouse+keboard controls of the previus games.

What is wrong with KB/Mouse? I have no issue playing with it.

There's nothing wrong with KBM. It works fine.

Wait, you can't disable the other players' voices?

Then I'm definitely never playing MP.

I'm really sorry for people who have hearing or other kinds of problems and I understand their frustration :(
But I personally would have zero time to control a character AND use a chatroom. I mean, sometimes stuff turns into a massive spell splashfest in seconds, and the attention needs to be on the battlefield, not in the chat :D
Unless we are talking about a lobby chat, in that case, why not :) would be nice to discuss who takes what character, items, etc.

One method of chat does not have to supersede the other. Text chat can exist alongside the existing voice chat. Players with their microphones can vocally respond to players using text chat and the text chat users can type in response to the voice users.

I've seen this work in a large number of online multiplayer games and I personally find it odd to use the idea that voice chat is more social as an argument against text chat both in-game and in-lobby. Without text chat a number of players (myself included) are unable to socialize in any capacity as opposed to having both systems which would allow the above scenario to take place.

I'd rather to have chat for both.

No clue where people get that kind of idea. Text chat is way more useful than voice. You don't get to hear background noise..even annoying 10 years old squeak kids. It is major reason why I am no longer play on consoles due lacking of text chat in multiplayers.

You can mute anyone you're in a match with.

there is no chat option for general population in the game, however if you create a chat room and have your friends join, then when you type stuff in the chat room it does show up in a black box during the MP. I have a friend who I play with who uses this to chat with me when we play together, I hope they make it a broader feature for the hearing impaired.

I am guessing you have never played games on PC. Most games that have multiplayer always have chat on PC. So "There is no chat option for general population in the game"...no idea what are you talk about. Please refer Deaf as "Deaf" not hearing impaired. Thanks :)

Didn't you hear? The game is optimized for PC. Not being about to chat with keyboard is for PC players' sake.
