Thanks! At least I got the 'safe' bit right. The other word I was thinking of was 'hold'.

Does anyone know if you miss the soft lock point with Blackwall can he still be your romance? I have flirted with him and completed memories of grey mission and I've not had a new opportunity to flirt ???
You must lock in his romance when he talks to you on the wall (the first conversation after Haven) so he can start his arch about whether he deserves you or not. If you do not flirt with him there you cannot continue with the romance. My lady mage sends her condolences if you've gone to far post that point.
Both are good characters, Blackwall suffers a bit from a sudden switch in attitude once you get to Skyhold (for plot related reasons) that makes things feel a bit over dramatic, Cullen's arc is much smoother, but personally I think there's a fair amount of similarities between them. Both have things in their past they're not proud of, neither of them have much time for nobles and the game, and at their centre both are good men trying to make up for their pasts.
Personally I went with Blackwall for my canon Quizzy because he quoted poetry on the Storm Coast that gave me Sean Bean vibes (I am a weak, weak woman when it comes to gruff northern men + poetry), and because he called my big, burly Adaar 'my lady'.
Honestly, I can't make any Inquisitor I'm fond of romance Blackwall, due to his actions towards her. (Of course, I feel the same about Solas, which is probably guaranteed to make half the world hate me.)
Iron Bull and Sera are problematic, but don't set off my 'eeeek creeep' alarms as much.
So, I'd say Cullen. He (and Josie) are basically the safest choice in which the character is not going to abuse you, lie to you, turn around and leave you, start screaming at you for your beliefs, give you backhanded ******* compliments, or generally due you harm.
Of course, that means very little drama, too, but... hey, I can appreciate that after DAII (much as I loved the four of them- sorry, Seb).
So, honestly, I'd say go with Cullen. But you probably should romance Blackwall at least once, as it's tragic and painful and if you get done with the tragic and pain, you can scream at him and shoot him down and bounce over to Cullen instead, as that does count as a breakup. >.>
I can't say which one anyone else should do, and I've never actually done a Cullen romance, but I liked Blackwall's romance a lot. There certainly is drama involved, but I thought that it was mostly concentrated around the climax (not the smutty kind) of the story rather than being present throughout the whole experience. There actually is a decent amount of sweetness in Blackwall's romance too, and, regardless of anything else, it's obvious that his affection is genuine.

First time playing I romanced Cullen, and I don't think it's another Alistair. Alistair was sappy, silly and a love-sick pup you just wanted to cuddle to death! Cullen used to be that way with Amell, but now he makes your Inquisitor feel safe and protected, and she makes him feel that way too according to Cole. I don't consider Cullen's romance comparable to any other DA one (I think he's more like Garrus in ME for some reason). Minus the big betrayal in DA2, I found Anders sappy romance more like Alistair's and could barely stand how Hawke became such a girl when with him! Give me Fenris any day! I did find Zevran and Iron Bull similar though, based on the casual sex leading to more unexpectedly. Both are sweet and protective of their lover too.
As for Blackwall being what you see and what you get and Cullen lying, I suggest reversing that. Someone got it mixed up. And you can flirt with Blackwall from your first meeting right up to Skyhold and then it gets serious. You have one chance to break up though, but that's after his personal quest. After that, you can romance Cullen if you want, but anytime before that, you are locked in at Skyhold and can't be with anyone else.
Dorian!
Other men in this game ain't even worthy of consideration.
Definitely Cullen. For me, Blackwall didn't make a fine impression during first meeting and further dialogues with him sent warning signals.
So I ended watching his romance on YT, I went meh at one part (the straw that broke the camel's back
), and what happened after, I'm sure glad I didn't pick him.
Cullen has the best romance in the game, Blackwall the worst.
I've tried them all.
Definitly Cullen.
Blackwall first kiss scene, he was whining like he's not good for my IQ, and i really hate this behaviour. Plus what happened later, i have to break with him at this scene ... I'm not disappointed that i never done the romance.
I saw that Cullen lies alot somewhere online (google snippet) but couldnt access the page, but with Blackwall what you see is what you get and apparantly he becomes really great as a character as the game progresses.
I think you've got them mixed up lol
I like them both almost equally much but if I have to choose, I'll go for Cullen. And I don't consider Blackwall a whiner in any way. He's just trying his hardest to resist, to convince the inky to not push things further between them because - even though he desperately want's to be with her - he is deeply afraid of ending up hurting her, which is the last thing he want's to do. You can just feel blackwall's inner turmoil, the pain he's fighting with inside. He really is a sweet, sweet man. I truly love them both.
Ugh, Cullen & Blackwall romances. Color me bored to death.

Best romance there is, hands down.

Sorry, but my elf lady wouldn't touch him even with a ten foot pole; not even if her life depended on it.
I just can't see how anyone can find him even remotely appeling in any way.
No offence. But hey, that's why it's so great to have multible options.
I detest Blackwell, and as you play the game you will learn why.
Cullen is the best romance ever IMO.
Lol.
Cullen's romance is sweet. Almost like Alistair 2.0. I enjoyed his romance heavily.
I haven't romanced Blackwall yet, mostly because I can't stop romancing Solas, but Cullen's romance is really nice. Cullen is my second favorite romance out of the ones I've tried so far. If you want a happy and sweet romance I would say go for Cullen. Dorian's romance is also really sweet, and I really enjoyed it. Iron Bull and Sera's romance are more funny and light hearted. It's all about what you want.
As someone who will never romance Solas because watching the thing on YT led to a torrent of profanity...Gareth David Lloyd could read me the phone book. Also, he's a geek.Sorry, but my elf lady wouldn't touch him even with a ten foot pole; not even if her life depended on it.
