Did a game where I went to the Temlar place first then retstarted for world state reasons (discovered the keep) second time around I learned you can only do mages or templars not both, so I went mages.

What are your guyses thoughts on mages or templar?

Always mages. Not only does the story make more sense with the red templars being Corypheus' army and the Venatori his covert operatives, but the Templar Order finally gets to be extinguished once and for all.

Per what I said in a similar thread, I preferred the mage route because I was dealing with seeing what could happen to my friends - it had more of an emotional impact for me, and I inherently find magic and mages to be more interesting than templars (but whatever floats your boat, etc.).

Templars. I refuse to ally with people simply for what they were born as. And since their actions include selling Redcliffe to Tevinter, that's enough for me to let them rot.

I'd say the templars starting and fighting in the war is worse.

Templars: Mostly decent guys being lied to by a handful of corrupt officers. Once they realize what was happening with the red lyrium, they try to make things right.

Mages: Started a stupid and shortsighted rebellion they had no hope of winning, getting thousands of innocents killed. Then, in order to save their own skins, they ran crying to Tevinter when they started losing, massively abusing the hospitality of Fereldan in doing so.

Screw the mages. I saved the Templars.

Nope, not only is the mages voting for independence, without the consent of anyone at large beside the Divine telling them to vote of the Cure for Tranquility, they hypocritically sold others into slavery. But of course you'd call it worse, why actually call the mage's out on their wrongs when it's so much easier to just blame the Templars and handwave it?

I liked both routes, but I feel the Templar mission was better

It was Fiona's decision alone to join Tevinter--blame her as you like, but the other mages don't seem to have been involved. In any case, all of it was in reaction to templar-originated aggression.

I think they're both done well. Haven't decided what I prefer. It makes it harder that I can condemn the mages, yet still use them. If I only had a choice to ally, I would pick the Templars all the time.

Both sides make sense to me, really depends on the character you're playing. I just tried the templar quest for the first time with my Cadash and enjoyed it just as much as the mage quest. I personally usually have more sympathy for the mages but find the templars in this game to be very respectable. Both sides were basically preyed upon with the majority being innocent in the matter. It's a shame both can't be saved.

No templar, in my opinion, is innocent. Except the ones who leave the Order. It's why I feel no real sympathy for the red templars.

And not a single one went against Fiona. They all either agreed, most of the ones meet, or talked about how they should do something. Nope, they just sat there and let Venatori butcher Tranquil and enslave their countrymen and allies. Unlike the Templars who actually did fight back regardless of our help and died for what they believed in. Templars fought back before the Inquisition's arrival, and yet not a single mage is even spoken of.

Nope, it was mages breaking the law because they think they have the right to. Mages have to be accountable just like everyone else. Being a special snowflake doesn't change that.

Mages. I think the templars are in the wrong, and I really like In Hushed Whispers.

I've played both. I find the mage quest slightly better because I think Alexius is a better villain than the Envy demon. But both are fantastically well done missions with great atmosphere and long-reaching effects. Mage side might be somewhat harder because the Samson quest involves going through high level areas.

You really can't go wrong.

Thus far, the Tevinters weren't doing anything bad that anyone seems to have noticed, until they took over the village and were at that point too powerful to attack if the rebellion wanted to survive (also, they didn't take any slaves that I noticed) Not even the one Tranquil we speaks to mentions other Tranquil being disappeared, so that entire sequence strikes me as extremely dodgy.

As for the templars, I don't give a **** about the red lyrium. It's fighting in the war and remaining with the renegade Order for which I condemn them.

the mages are fighting a war of freedom, to make sure they are respected as equals, and bring magical equality... i got the wrong.

JOIN THE MAGES AND FIGHT FOR THE IMPERIUM. AS A MAGE YOU GET TO OWN PEOPLE PROPERTY AFTER YOU SERVE THE IMPERIUM AS A INDENTURED SERVENT FOR TEN YEARS~

Uh, the mages themselves are the slaves in question. Indentured at least.

Regrettable detour. It's easy to bring them back around.

Ah, so it's not a matter of selfishness, then.
