Wait.. you can play as a non-mage? That's so silly.. why would you ever do that?
For sexy warrior armor.

I know lol
Except that you stand for the rights of a tiny, over-priviliged minority against the safety and rights of the vast, vast majority of the population and any tradition or common sense. Seriously, if the PC isn't a mage, siding with them makes almost no sense.
You want to get rid of the Tevinters? You are put off by Lucius's words and action in Val Royeaux?
There's a score of reasons I can think of to support either side.

Pff armor.. heavy, uncomfortable, makes you sweat. I've been wearing the ball clothes through out the game, all you need is a good barrier.
lost tolerance for his group when his lackey decked a lady.. kill and fight magi whatever but hitting a priest yeah...You want to get rid of the Tevinters? You are put off by Lucius's words and action in Val Royeaux?

Indeed. In a time of rape, murder, blood magic and tranquil sacrifices, punching a priest is unforgivable! ![]()
but hitting a priest yeah...
That was so good, almost as good as punching the reporter as Shepard.
Yeah, true, and the templars did the same thing. Abandon them and their duty to their protection I mean.
Minaeve tried helping them in the Inquisition, so that's a good thing.
Oh, I agree. I'm not excusing the Templars that betrayed their oaths and their fellows. I'm just so used to everyone jumping to blame the Templars for everything and excusing the Mages as blameless victims regardless of what they do, it's become almost habit to point out where they screw up. ![]()
In this case, my personal take is that I prefer the Templars that remain because they ultimately take responsibility and actively strive to reform themselves and make amends. I don't get the same feeling of accountability and remorse from the mages.
templars are rapists. I gladly kill them and am glad my ending had independent mages and no more templars.

I'm just as used to the opposite, usually debating people who blame mages for all problems in the world and try to handwave the abuses of templars in previous games, nameley DA2.
But imagine this, Fiona being conscripted into the Inquisition where she watches Vivienne, a mage, rise to become the next Divine.
Fiona, who so desperately wanted to help mages, and her desperation led to some pretty horrible choices, or horrendously timed ones as Vivienne describes the vote in Asunder, forced to watch a mage who remained loyal to the Circle's and the people rise to be the next Divine without ever once leaving the Circle with the rebel mages, I can only imagine the look on her face.
It would probably be worth buying tickets to see it.

This statement is likely going to draw in an equally negative view on mages. "Mages are blood mages and mind rapists who sacrifice tranquil." Or some such.
Both sides have issues.
templars are rapists. I gladly kill them and am glad my ending had independent mages and no more templars.
Yeah I don't like that Templar Right of passage that involves raping a mage.
hit a woman get messed, but if a woman comes @ me then its fair play. Simple rule for me lolThat was so good, almost as good as punching the reporter as Shepard.
i think the issues with magi are they are so disconnected from mundanes they forget they are both people. And this is coming from a isolationistOh, I agree. Yeah, ball clothing is all fine and dandy, but nothing beats plate armor when it comes to sexy.
*snip*
Nah, I don't find tin-cans sexy.
Both sides have issues.
Not at all, both sides are completely fine. ![]()
Nah, I don't find tin-cans sexy.
And mages kill people or enslave and then rape them. Much better.
Well atleast they do foreplay.

Templars threaten to lobotimize you, actually lobotomize you and then rape them. Much better
Well, no one finds mage hats sexy.
Tevinter robes are only cool if you're a Goth I guess.
I don't like hats and robes either, but that's not what makes a mage.

What does any of that have to do with choosing to pursue the mages or the Templars in DA:I?
