Last night, I promoted Ser Barris. I was so proud!

I'm just glad the Templars aren't corrupt prison guards (again) this time. They're pretty damn likeable when they're doing their jobs and not oppressing mages for the lols.
If there was a way to work with them while still allying with the mage rebellion, I might have been willing to. Alas, no.

After having done both, I prefer templars. Barris is a sweetheart and I preferred dealing with Calpernia to Samson.
I can't imagine not having Samson there... and, I confess, I do rather like the fact that the templars are both obliterated and, if you get Leliana for Divine, never coming back.

What is wrong with Samson? He's a harsh reality about templars that people prefer not to think about. Eventually, the lyrium will destroy their minds and when they are dementia warriors, they are thrown away. Even Barris unfortunately. Ironically, the only way to save the templars is to get rid of the Circles through a certain Divine.

or by having them follow Cullen in stopping their lyrium intake

Except that isn't true? There are plenty of ways to "save them."

Then they'd just be regular soldiers without templar abilities. I'm not even sure many of them are as disciplined as cullen and would fall of the band wagon.

the related epilogue slide says that many then join the Seekers, where they would get the same abilities, but no lyrium

Lyrium is an adverse drug. It's the truth whether you want to face it or not. And what does "save them" mean to you because as long as they take lyrium, they become lyrium addled.

I was under the impression this only occurs if Leliana is Divine who disbands the Circles and allows mages to govern themselves. It's what I meant by they are only saved if a certain divine is elected.

Men and women making great personal sacrifices in the name of serving a greater good seems like a theme in Thedas.

Nope. I got it with Cassandra.
Is this the ending for the templars of Thereinfal Redoubt?
"Many follow in the footsteps of Commander Cullen, going through the slow and agonizing process of Lyrium withdrawl."
"This frees many to join the Seekers of Truth underCassandra - a renewed order dedicated to justice for all."
If you got that for Cassandra as Divine then maybe I was mistaken.

Yep, that's what I got with Cass as Divine.
Hmm, now I'm second guessing myself. I don't think the 'under Cassandra' part of the line was there. I'll have to go look later.

Yeah, Cullen's really the only good part. After Calpernia's awesome conflicted Anti-Villain status, Samson is such a disappointment. And the pacing is wonky because Emprise du Lion is probably the last area you'll clear.
How's that wonky pacing? It's perfect. You work on destroying Samson's armor right before you confront him in the Arbor Wilds.

I much preferred the Templar quest, if only for the fact that it made Cole less out-of-the-blue. I could not understand why everyone kept calling him a spirit or a demon after he appeared in Haven after doing the Mage quest. It's totally clear if you go for the Templars. Dorian on the other hand is introduced beforehand and he is just what he appears to be.
The sad thing is that I think most people will end up choosing the mages, because after meeting Dorian and Alexius, you don't want to leave those loose threads hanging. Lucius just seems like every corrupt Templar you've ever seen in a DA game, so there isn't a sense of urgency to deal with him. I think they should not have told you that the quests were exclusive, but let you make your choice and find out later.

I definitely would have preferred more nuance to the choice, instead of what amounts to a switch. Given how important they built the Mage/Templar conflict up to, it felt a little cheap that it doesn't really get resolved until epilogue slides.
