there is something pinging on top, but I cant seem to get to it with any combination of characters. Someone said in another post they had to use a cloaked rogue to get to it. Does a cloak rogue have better climbing abilities?

Trying to turn this game into a platformer without platformer mechanics was a mistake.
At any rate: are you taking about the broken gate next to the camp near the Trevinter fort? If so, go around to the side facing the canyon, then jump back and forth in a zig-zag pattern on the left side where the rocks are. You can also look at how your companions stand on higher elevations than you to get an idea of where you need to jump to since the physics and the graphics do not necessarily match.
Added: I did it with a mage.
