As the unofficial DAMP equipment scribe I'd like to offer my opinion on the current loot system and drop rates.
There's been several complaints made about the RNG loot system as a whole, I however won't go deep analysis of the RNG system. If the RNG system were to be replaced by a level progression system (as with SP), then my recommendation would be to base the unlocking on the Challenge system (completing dagger challenge result in better drop rates for daggers, completing mage challenges results in better drop rates for mage crafting material, etc).
As it were I've complete 196 of the required 275 challenges and spent over 310K gold on 1500 Store chest. I have yet to have enough components to have a "maxed out" character (i.e. best weapon, best armor with available components, at least 1 Uni in each accessory slot). Keep in mind that the amount of play time involved would translate into months of play time for the "average player", you're looking at 4 months or so down the road before you get your first maxed kit (without cutting the same corners that I've used).
My opinion of current drop rates:
1. Tier 3 Crafting material are quite low.
2. Belt drop rates (as a whole) are quite low.
3. Amulet drop rates (as a whole) are quite low.
4. Shield drop rates should be tweaked to drop a little more frequently.
5. Armor-upgrade Level 23 items drops are quite low.
6. Unique rings are quite low.
The Tier 1/2 crafting material is useful... up to a point. I've reached max cap on two items already because I don't need to craft armor anymore since I've already unlocked the best possible armor for each kit already. They would only be useful IF I were interested in crafting sub-par components in my top-tier armor and weapons. Of course that's not the case. Projected out it would take another few months of "accelerated play" to fully craft every available armor and best unique. Translation: You're looking at well over a year for "full manifest". This doesn't take into account new weapons, armor, accessories, and kits added into over the course of DAMP support.
