All I have seen from every site I've been on has been talks about how wonderful of a job he did with Iron Bull and how heroic it was after his surgery and everything else. I like the guy as an actor, I love the fact that he's a major gamer and found common ground with us little folk, and I wish more stars would do the same thing. Really, I admire him for it and I couldn't be happier that he did it, but as for playing Iron Bull...c'mon. I don't know about you guys, but every time Iron Bull speaks to me, I picture Freddie Prinze standing in front of a mic and making these funny faces to make the voice you hear in-game. It's not convincing at all and makes Iron Bull feel cheap and fake. Freddie, I'm sorry if you read this and it hurts your feelings but I couldn't hold my tongue any longer. It doesn't feel real or engaging when I speak to Iron Bull. He should have a naturally low voice that doesn't feel forced. I made sure to avoid any trailers prior to the launch of the game because I wanted everything to be a surprise. I had no idea it was Freddie Prinze Jr doing iron Bull's voice, but as soon as I got him, I thought to myself, "Why the hell did they pick this voice for him? It's absolutely nothing like it should be." So I looked it up and lo and behold, I see Freddie standing behind a mic muttering in-game dialog and go, "ohhhhhhh yeah that makes sense". It just doesn't fit the character. I'm sorry, I like Prinze and all, but that voice does not fit Iron Bull in the least. I had to say it, I had to get it out, it's just wrong. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong.

I liked it myself. Took me a while to notice it was him. but I understand why it might be a bit irksome as times as I noted that he tended to shift his tone and accent a bit.

I liked his performance as Iron Bull. Too bad you didn't, but I don't really see the point in making a long-winded rant about it.

Nah, I really liked Iron Bull. The banter I recently heard between him and Blackwall that ended with Bull stating that his pink sword was pretty was hilarious. Good job, FPJ!

I'm curious what you expected Iron Bull's voice to be, OP. Personally I loved FPJ's voice work, but I understand that everyone  is entitled to different opinions :)

I agree with the others in the thread, I liked it as well, I thought he did a really good job.

I personally liked the sort of character it bought to Iron Bull and I thought it fit him quite well.  To each their own though.

I wasn't overly enthused after hearing it in promotional material but in game I thought he was excellent.

If only I were better at using him.

I think a big part of it is that many people were wanting/expecting an Arishok type deep voice from DA2. While that would have been nice, it's certainly plausible that not every Qunari would sound like that. Aside from some minor accent-shifting, I thought FPJ delivered Bull's lines really well.

I wouldn't say he had the best performance but I also don't think it was bad. Go on youtube and check out the love scene between Iron Bull and the Male Inquisitor that everyone walks in on, that is priceless stuff there.

I liked it- not every Qunari needs to sound like Sten or the Arishok (it makes sense for The Iron Bull to have a bit of a friendlier tone working as a spy anyway).

I think there were times when he struggled a bit to sound "Iron Bull-y" enough, almost so he sounded more like Vega. But overall i think he did a rather good job.

I don't like IB or use him, but I don't think Prinze did a bad job. And if his fans like him, then there you have it.

My problem was the fact that FPJ can't really do the voice consistently, rather than the voice itself. I hated it in the promotional material, but he mostly won me over in game.

Definitely not the acting highlight a lot of people have claimed he is, though.

Yeah, I noticed sometimes he had a heavier accent suddenly and would then go back to sounding more like himself which could be awkward. For the most part though, I liked it and think he did a good job.

Yeah, his voice is pretty inconsistent. But I like to think it's because he's slipping between his two personas as the free leader of a mercenary company and as a loyal follower of the Qun.

That story about making the giant chase his crew...It was really stark there. He's talking in a voice only slightly different from James Vega's, and then suddenly it shifts to something much deeper and more Iron Bull-like as he begins to tell the story.

I still love him, though.

Yep, that's exactly what I was thinking of when I commented too. The story even starts out with that thicker accent and gradually the accent disappears the more he talks. xD That's probably the most obvious case of it though, I don't think any other conversations with him are nearly as bad with that.

My only problem is that I keep remembering @RealFPJr's tweets when I hear IB speak.

I like the idea that he's slipping because of his two personas. Would be interesting to analyze later and see if it lines up.

Personally, I thought he was great. There were some weird choices where he sounded different, and I think I prefer his Vega, but overall I was pleased.

I always felt like he was trying a bit too hard.

I never felt like 'that's the Bull talking!', I constantly just visualized FPJ in a recording booth talking really strangely.

I tried to filter out real life while playing (except for on mechanics and gameplay, only on story). Although I did notice a shift in the voice sometimes... But overall, it wasn't a problem for me.

Some lines were a tad forced yeah. I had more issue with the character being a bit more bland than the hype would have lead me to believe.

I'm guessing that was one of the first lines recorded.

The full romance is what sells Iron Bull for me especially the scene when The Inquisitor can get him to use the Watch Word. Hearing him say Katoh was ... I think my room is getting dusty.
