I thought I would hate it after that promotional vid, but I got used to it pretty quickly. My problem with Bull is more the sheer amount of Americanisms he uses. I realize the characters aren't going to be talking in ye olde English (thank god), but I felt that went too far. I cringed so hard when he declared that dragon/giant fight on the Storm Coast 'badass'.
Ok, we need to talk about Freddie Prinze Jr as Iron Bull

I thought IB's voice would sound deeper via audio effects or something, but I like how he sounds he's not your typical Qunari so it works well.

I didn't know who voiced Iron Bull until I finished the game but I just didn't like the voice, FPjr is a fine voice actor but the voice just grated on me a lot. Never took him in my party for this reason. It wasn't the accent I can't put my finger on it, just really grated on me like every time I heard it I felt like there no emotion behind the voice?
I know I'm in the minority though and It didn't grate on me enough to hate The Iron Bull or the take away from the game it was just personal preference I didn't enjoy the voice.

Spinal surgery. He was wearing a neck brace afterwards and is doing fine now.
Wait. Just how exactly is it considered "brave" to have surgery on your spine. Then go to work at a job that requires you to sit down in a chair and talk into a microphone?

Yeah I cringed at that too, that's a writing thing though.

...Freddie Prinze Jr...
This is going to age me fast, but who the hell is Freddy Prince Jr.? Sure the voice of Iron Bull, but other than that?
On a side note, I don't do TV or film, and gain all my entertainment from video games and my eclectic taste in music. Although I'm possibly one of the few queens you'll ever meet who dislikes show tunes, and hates the typical gay entertainment icons.

I loved Vega, he was my Shepard's best friend (besides Garrus, because Garrus > everyone else). He just doesn't "fit" what I was expecting of Iron Bull, though. I guess I don't really know what I was expecting, just not the overly casual speaking style he has. I enjoyed Sten, even if his voice was monotonous. I liked the Arishok (making him angry was fun). All previous Qunari, baring Tallis (who I am absolutely not a fan of in any degree) had a very paced and controlled manner of speaking. Iron Bull just sounds "common" to me, too modern compared to everyone else, he sticks out like a sore thumb.
I had a feeling after watching a video of Freddie Prinze Jr doing some of the lines that his voice was going to bug me, but I wanted to give him a go in the game before making up my mind. And his voice definitely bugs me.
I will say, however, watching that video made it explicitly clear that he was having an absolute blast doing the game, and seeing one of the VA's enjoying his work so much was great. Knowing the people who worked on the game had fun and loved it makes it more endearing. His voice still bugs me, though ![]()

I get your point (badass sounds ultra-modern), but it's hardly unique in being an Americanism used in the series. Hello and okay are both Americanisms as well, they are just much less modern.

Well, yeah, like I said, I don't expect LotR or anything. There have always been americanisms in the DA series but it's got progressively more overt with each game and Bull is basically the pinnacle of that. I half expected him to declare his marvellous swag after a dragon battle, or to dismiss some 'haters'. Varric is quite guilty of it, too.

I think the Iron Bull performance was solid.
And I'm a cynical *A* who loves to criticize.

I agree that he's no ordinary qunari. Freddie doesn't make him sound extra badass and brawn like he's clearly supposed to be compared to other qunari... well, I mean, he doesn't look as threatening as the Arishok but he's certainly supposed to be the big bully of the Inquisitor's team and Freddie's delivery just doesn't capture that at all.
By all means, Freddie should stay in the VA biz at Bioware, but I hope he gets a non-party role next time, maybe as a minor character, maybe give him a turian or salarian voice in ME4?
I agree with OP, i'm not gonna sugarcoat it either or be all happy about it just because I like Freddie as an actor and as a person from what I've seen. He was pretty much amazing as James Vega but he has no experience in changing his voice, and you can tell he's an amateur if you look at the BTS footage from Bioware Base on Youtube. Real voice actors tend to be able to make the most gut-wrenching screams with barely any expression on their face. They're all concentrated on the voice delivery, and you can tell Freddie is struggling to do that.

Freddie Prinze Jr. did an amazing job with the voice acting, and Iron Bull is equally amazing! I love almost everything about the character. I would have given him both eyes had I been ruler of the world, but I'm sure a lot of other people like eye patches. So, there's something there for everyone I suppose! ![]()

I've no probem with the voice actors, at least they've a large range of people in english.
Not unlike in french where it's Alistair voice actor who voice the male hero without changing his voice XD

I was pretty skeptical of Freddie voicing Bull at first, but it grew on me as I played on. Overall, I think he did a pretty good job with the role.

I have nothing against Freddie Prince Jr. but he was horribly miscast as Iron Bull, every line just sounds ridiculous in that fake deep voice. I actually wound up using Bull the least partly because of it. Ironically I rarerly used Vega in ME3 either.

I don't know... I think he was ok, and for me he did a good job at doing IB. I like IB as a character and I often use him. I didn't even know Freddie voiced IB until I went and read the forums. I think most people just started to hate on his voice because it was Freddie Prince Jr. If it was any other person, I think only few people would actually care.
