Well he has "romantic" scenes with kissing and stuff. No sex scene or fade to black (Patrick Weekes wanted to leave it up to the players to decide if they actually did the thing). But I've gotta say, those kiss scenes had so much sexual tension that they kinda left me breathless. Way sexier than actually showing it, imo. They're incredibly well-animated. The expressions are amazing.

In other news, did the fade (he got SUPER pissed that I accepted the Wardens) I'm betting we will have to talk about that. And yeah. I'm looking forward to the other scenes but I'm a little disappointed that we've not had more Romance/friendship scenes in this playthrough yet.

And he doesn't even have freaking calibrations as an excuse?!

It really is like Garrus all over again, for me at least (Garrus remains my Bioware One True Love, but damn if Solas hasn't come close). I really wish he'd gotten more stuff to say. Whenever I felt depressed he wasn't talking to me I took him out and listened to his banter.

 

He's great fun at the Winter Palace though.

I'm fairly certain post-fade is when his third personal quest (What Lies Dormant) is supposed to kick in... the one that's bugged for just about everyone.

It makes the ending, and what comes after the credits, so much more poignant.  I'm having difficulty convincing myself to play the story another way.

I hated that ending... being alone on the balcony.  Not because she was alone but because she looked too happy, too hopeful at the end.  She just went to her room alone, after saving the world, Solas dissappeared and they were SUPPOSED to talk more after it was all over.... and she smiles?!  Sort of broke immersion for me as my Lavellan didn't bad mouth him and get all pissy with him after he broke it off.

I think I heard a writer say they wanted to leave it up to the player's imagination whether the relationship ever went that direction.  He does say something about getting her in bed though.

I get that but I would like to have an answer on if they did sleep together or not... it can change some of the tenor about things.  You get the sense from him about getting you into bed that you have but it could just be a quip comment about his intentions that he doesn't follow through on.

Then there is Sera's comment about her betting he screams out ELVEN GLORY when he does it with you that makes it seem like the two of you are sexually involved.  No dialogue to refute that the two of you are sleeping together so..... could go either way I suppose.

From a save point on the final romance scene I went half a dozen different directions to see if it would turn out differently at all and it didn't turn out too differently though one caught me as significant.  She shoves him and get angry and shouts at Solas telling him to tell her she was just a casual dalliance so she could move on.  To me that highly suggests they were sleeping together... I don't think a kiss or three and a butt grab a "dalliance" make.

My first playthrough of DAO was a city elf and that story kicks of with an arranged marriage.  We get to see a bit of a Dalish relationship in DAO as well with that hunter who hasn't quite made it yet and the girl he likes.  Between the two of these I get that Elven culture, city or Dalish, is rather rigid with relationships.  I don't think you are generally expected to bump uglies and play around until you finally decide to settle down.  To my mind this means that if Lavellan and Solas were sexually involved it was a pretty big issue... likely for the both of them; a way bigger issue than just some making out.  But I could be totally off base here.

Yeah. From what I gather, (and this is a lot of conjecture here) Zevren and Sera seem to be atypical elves in that regard. Both are shown as being comfortable with casual intimacy/sex. I think this could be connected to the fact that neither had strong ties to an Elven comunity. Both have jobs that discourage 'putting down roots' so to speak.

With Merril she's like 'hey let's move in together.' Dalish and city elf comunities (from the little we've seen) seem to have very structured courtship rituals.

People tend to have a very specific idea of what someone who is enthusiastic about romance is supposed to look like. So anyone that feels like they are excited about somthing seen as atypical of their gender/sexuality sometimes puts a disclaimer.

It's the Internet equivilant of 'no ******, man.'

But the BSN is a relitively chill bunch (sometimes). I probably shouldn't have even bothered.

Agreed. I wasn't thrilled with the story on its own, but as a Dalish elf who romances Solas? There's a whole other level of meaning there. It's my favourite version of the story (even though it still needs an ending).

 

My poor Lavellan was miserable at her own party, though. Kept looking around and not finding Solas. Then you get the balcony scene...alone. Dammit.

 

I made all the most depressing dialog choices I could during that party, and was depressed that Lavellan wasn't as depressed as I was.

Looks like she's gonna hunt down Solas and murder him. I guess that's better than being happy, but she should have been sad. I was sad.

Solas is gunna come back in the dlc with Comander Shepard and Pre-Justice Anders and Mordin and we'll all have cake!

Could be... might have to go back and look at the final scene again.  It seems a great many aspects of this game are completely left up to interpretation as they are ambiguous.  It also seems that facial construction seems to change some of the looks various characters give.  In three playthroughs the look my various characters give seems to change even when the same dialogue options are picked.  Could simply be that with my elf's facial features her look struck me as a slight smile and that's not what it was supposed to look like.

Oh yeah, different mouth and eye shapes can make you look sort of sad and droopy all the time or a bit smiley even when uncalled for. I do not know how many times I've gotten a decent way in just to see something in a cut scene that bothered me so I had to go back to the drawing board on the face LOL
