Is there something wrong with me? I love the Hinterlands lol

Why is it that I love doing all the quests whether fetch quests or not? I just love the look of the place, some fantastic views, the flow of the zone, some tucked away cool places to find with narrow paths, hidden loot, that very cool chasm on the south side of the map, I just have loved every hour. I craft on the side, I read about 40% of what I find, I talk to my companions and they do banter enough as far as I'm concerned. I feel like I'm almost ready to try another zone but that's only because I have no choice being level 9 and running out of stuff that I can handle :-).
Since the underwhelming game introduction, it's the Hinterlands that has made this one of my favorite games of all time and I'm probably only 15-20% in. Sorry but I totally disagree with with these forums about the hinterlands and I'm glad I didn't listen and run to other zones because I haven't been bored at all....so there lol.

People advice to get out of Hinterlands not because it is bad but other places are as good if not better. You've got to check out Crestwood and Fallow Mire. Terrific variety in environment.
Another problem is - since you are already level 9, you will find some areas quite easy now.

*shrug* Play how you like as long as you're having fun.
Like the above said, the next few areas will be relatively easier but since you gain less exp from lower-level enemies they'll catch up to you.... eventually ![]()

Hinterlands is awesome and kind of feels like my safety blanket. I go back there when I only have half an hour to play or I just want to do some roaming. However there are a lot of cool zones. As mentioned above, Crestwood is really cool.

Nothing's wrong with the Hinterlans, it's just some people force themselves to grind all the area so that they could have a reason to complain later.

Nothing wrong with you, Hinterlands are awesome. But as others have said there are some other areas as equally or more impressive - in fact all the areas are wonderful to explore...and you want to progress the story according to the recommended level. If you haven't already done Mage/Templar recruitment it might be too easy at your current level - although that would allow you to transition immediately to the next part of the storyline.

I like the Hinterlands well enough as well. One other reason people have less of a connection to it, in general, is the relatively loose connection to the main plot. The core regional quest is linked to the growth of the Inquisition, but not otherwise linked to the central threat (except if chosen in a later path).
The core region quests in Western Approach, Hissing Wastes, Emprise du Lion, Crestwood, Emerald Graves, and Exalted Plains all connect to the main story in a different way than Hinterlands, Fallow Mire, and the Storm Coast. The last three are all about growing your power base and/or dealing with its growth.

No, you are right. The very least you should do in the hinterlands is the entire south end of the map. Like you, I don't know what they are all on about. They all remind me of movie or literary critics, tbh.
They type and I read, "blah, blah blah, blah blah."
The arguments here remind me of Dennett and Gould in "Nature". They type the same opinions using different words and think they're arguing.

Soooo I see all these posts and articles about how people hated the Hinterlands or recommend getting out early on and mixing it up with other parts of the world. I'm about 38 hours in, still only level 9, and have a few things left in the Hinterlands, mostly level 12 stuff, the dragon, and locked doors because I don't have that deft touch perk. The only other thing I've done is send folks out on the War Table, I did visit that Val R (whatever that pretty city is called).

wait before you leave that area and see that other open areas are just the same.
You still like this then go play mmorpg, they're for you.

Why? As I understand it in an MMO you also have to do PvP + Big group raidings. Both things I don't want to do but in an MMO are unavoidable. The MMO crowds should ask the devs of MMO's to make a lot of PvP + group raiding fights and less grinding for them in between. So no I wouldn't like playing MMO's and find the compare wrong. I want SP play and no encounter with a other players. Of course the industry wants us as gamers all to believe MMO are the play for 50% of the player base and online shooters for the other 50% of player base. No sense in accomodating multi nationals by parotting nonsence to advance streamlining and curbe creativity.

Honestly, the map design reminds me of games like Baldur's Gate, just on a much grander scale. I would wander around in those games as well filling in every black part/fog of war for no reason. I like that I can roam around and find so many quests, regardless if they are simplistic. It gives me something to work on while I explore. The only thing I think this game needed though was regional cinimatic/story themed quests for each zone.
I play/played a lot of MMOs and honestly this game doesn't really feel like one THAT much to me. Exploring maps and doing little quests are not a new concept or only exclusive to MMOs. You don't have to grind in this game at all and can skip over things pretty easily, since power is so easy to acquire. The problem is they don't have rails in the zones, so people feel like they have to do everything as they train by.

The advice "Get out of the Hinterlands!" is meant for people who feel they have to complete all quests there 100%... and in the process get frustrated with the game. None of which is necessary. But as long as you're having fun, there's no reason you can't stay in the Hinterlands all day. (:
Personally, I liked collecting all of the companions before going on long extensive exploration trips.

As mentioned before, the whole leave the Hinterlands thing is towards people who feel the need they HAVE to stay and ***** and moan about how bored they are. OP, if you are enjoying the Hinterlands (hey, I did too!) you will really enjoy some of the other areas. Once you unlock various places, it's a ton of fun zipping around depending on what type of mood you're in. There are a lot of really gorgeous areas.

Yeah I love them too. I just left them for the first time ever in days, and spent 11-12 hours in them. I am at level 7 with a Qunari two hander. There are still some areas inaccessible to me due to high level enemies like demons and a dragon (gasps!) at certain points, and for a completionist like me it nags at my mind.

My only problem with the Hinterlands is that I went into with the idea that I should finish that zone before moving on to the next, by the time I was done there I was playing the rest of the game constantly overleveled for whichever zone I was in.

I finally ventured outside and went to the Desert Oasis. I still feel parts of Hinterlands are much nicer than the watery oasis. I think Cassandra over-reacted to its beauty lol.

How do I downvote on this site lol. I've been playing MMOs only up until this game for the last 10+ years and I'm enjoying myself more than ever here. Whats your point?

How do the open world areas feel? Is it like a sandbox environment where you can just ignore the main quest and keep doing your own thing exploring and fighting bandits or whatever as long as you want?
Some have indicated the enemies seem more like MMO mobs that just stand around waiting for the player as opposed to enemies in open world games like Skyrim or Far Cry 3 that have their own routines.
Do you eventually run out of stuff to do? Do tougher enemies eventually spawn if you get to higher level?
