Yeah I love them too.  I just left them for the first time ever in days, and spent 11-12 hours in them.  I am at level 7 with a Qunari two hander.  There are still some areas inaccessible to me due to high level enemies like demons and a dragon (gasps!) at certain points, and for a completionist like me it nags at my mind.

When I ran into that dragon with my new PS4 headset with the surround and everything, it actually made me jump and run like a little baby with the sounds effects and everything lol...though at that time I was only level 6 :-)

How do the open world areas feel? Is it like a sandbox environment where you can just ignore the main quest and keep doing your own thing exploring and fighting bandits or whatever as long as you want?

Some have indicated the enemies seem more like MMO mobs that just stand around waiting for the player as opposed to enemies in open world games like Skyrim or Far Cry 3 that have their own routines.

Do you eventually run out of stuff to do? Do tougher enemies eventually spawn if you get to higher level?

Some walk around, some stand still. Very similar I guess to some MMOs, but Skyrim also had mobs that standed still. Though I liked the routines and maybe the game needs more, it hasn't detracted from the game for me. Skyrim has its pros and cons and this game has its pros and cons. I would rather have the companions in DA than the routines in Skyrim as I felt much lonelier in Skyrim despite those routines...and IMO the world is more beautiful and diverse with the color schemes and the areas than Skyrim was..not to mention in Skyrim I was an overpowered god by level 20. I think there is another thread about Skyrim versus DA so I'll leave that alone here. There are mobs that are higher level in Hinterlands that I couldn't finish at level 9 (Dragon, some rifts, etc) because they were level 12 or too tough (e.g. Dragon).

Yes you can mostly ignore the main quest and do most of the Hinterlands. As far as Sandbox, that is one of those words that is inconsistently used by the entire community so I'd rather just say that I don't consider this game to be a Sandbox...but I didn't exactly find Skyrim to be a total Sandbox either. They are just open in different ways and with different purposes...to me Skyrim felt more open, but again, Skyrim felt more hollow to me as a whole...hard to put into words. I just don't feel as lonely in DA as Skyrim. Only way to put it. The characters/NPCs/story to me are more memorable and interesting in DA and that makes it feel less lonely to me because I'm pulled in.

Why?  As I understand it in an MMO you also have to do PvP + Big group raidings.  Both things I don't want to do but in an MMO are unavoidable.  The MMO crowds should ask the devs of MMO's to make a lot of PvP + group raiding fights and less grinding for them in between.  So no I wouldn't like playing MMO's and find the compare wrong.  I want SP play and no encounter with a other players.  Of course the industry wants us as gamers all to believe MMO are the play for 50% of the player base and online shooters for the other 50% of player base.  No sense in accomodating multi nationals by parotting nonsence to advance streamlining and curbe creativity.

You don`t need to do that stuff in SWtoR. Heck, it reminds me of this game a lot.

Yes, sweet heart.  There is something wrong with you, but try not to worry about it to much.  Do you feel okay in yourself, no sudden mood swings or strange desires such as wanting to wear green socks?

The simple fact that you are questioning your own sanity, would suggest that it's only a mild case of cross-wires.  Try a mild medication of cake, that always helps.

That you feel compelled to verbally assault someone like this speaks much about your character.

I'm on my second playthrough and just wandering around the hinterlands finding all the places again. It's a nice pleasant place to walk around once you clear out the aspotates and templars.

Aside from the occasional bear attack, it's a very peaceful place.

And you whom lacks humor are a troll on a personal level.  Move along now and bully somebody else if you will.

That was humor? Most of your posts boil down to weak shade so one can't really tell.

And there you go again.  A troll if I ever had the pleasure not to meet one.  Single out, follow and rip into.  This is your code.

Another problem is - since you are already level 9, you will find some areas quite easy now.

I have to say I find this very aggravating. I am constantly second-guessing myself because i am enjoying the game's content, but I am worried that I will rob myself of a challenging experience later on. I'm level 12 and just entering Crestwood (already been to Oasis, Storm Coast, and Fallow Mire). It is simply too easy to get overleveled.

I play an area until I hit sections that hand my ass back to me.

Then I fall back to the Hinterlands (or other prior partly explored region).

Just arrived in Emripise Du Lion at level 11: No that's not going to work.

Back to the Hinterlands...

The biggest issue with the Hinterlands was those who decided to dominate it, in one visit,

not to periodically revisit it like an old friend.

As my original post states, I don't see this as a problem. What you just described is exactly what I just did and now I'm in love with the game. I guess different strokes for different folks :-). I think it's good that the game gives different paths to approach the leveling process :-).

I completely enjoyed the Hinterlands - only place I hated was Fallow Marsh.

On my first playthrough I thought the Hinterlands was excruciating.

Now that I'm used to it, it's not that bad at all.  It's usually the first area that I completely clear, and I can do it fairly quickly, too.
