How do the open world areas feel? Is it like a sandbox environment where you can just ignore the main quest and keep doing your own thing exploring and fighting bandits or whatever as long as you want?
Some have indicated the enemies seem more like MMO mobs that just stand around waiting for the player as opposed to enemies in open world games like Skyrim or Far Cry 3 that have their own routines.
Do you eventually run out of stuff to do? Do tougher enemies eventually spawn if you get to higher level?
Some walk around, some stand still. Very similar I guess to some MMOs, but Skyrim also had mobs that standed still. Though I liked the routines and maybe the game needs more, it hasn't detracted from the game for me. Skyrim has its pros and cons and this game has its pros and cons. I would rather have the companions in DA than the routines in Skyrim as I felt much lonelier in Skyrim despite those routines...and IMO the world is more beautiful and diverse with the color schemes and the areas than Skyrim was..not to mention in Skyrim I was an overpowered god by level 20. I think there is another thread about Skyrim versus DA so I'll leave that alone here. There are mobs that are higher level in Hinterlands that I couldn't finish at level 9 (Dragon, some rifts, etc) because they were level 12 or too tough (e.g. Dragon).
Yes you can mostly ignore the main quest and do most of the Hinterlands. As far as Sandbox, that is one of those words that is inconsistently used by the entire community so I'd rather just say that I don't consider this game to be a Sandbox...but I didn't exactly find Skyrim to be a total Sandbox either. They are just open in different ways and with different purposes...to me Skyrim felt more open, but again, Skyrim felt more hollow to me as a whole...hard to put into words. I just don't feel as lonely in DA as Skyrim. Only way to put it. The characters/NPCs/story to me are more memorable and interesting in DA and that makes it feel less lonely to me because I'm pulled in.
