I am unsure if this is the correct place to complain about this particular subject but as I cannot find an alternative this will have to do.

I am completely crushed at the romance option of Solas. What was Bioware thinking when they decided to have this character break off all romantic ties to the Inquisitor? As a person who has had their heart broken, this is just cruel. People play these games to get away from the real world. What is wrong with wanting a happy ending for a character that you put SO MUCH time into? To say Im upset is an understatement. I am sure there are a lot of people who will disagree with me but please, tell me I am not alone in thinking that this was just uncalled for. In Dragon Age 2, another favorite character of mine decides to call off the relationship, but luckily, the writers cut us fans a break and wrote a happy ending. And lets face it, Dragon Age 2 fell a little short and the only reason I play it over and over again is for the STORY. I cant speak for other players but as for me, I become emotionally attached to my game characters. And I'm the one that actually feels dumped. Strange, I know and possibly a little obsessive but there you go. Unhappy endings suck, Bioware. Dont do that to your loyal fan base. It's not right.

I understand what you mean. It really sucks about Solas! I enjoyed the beginning of the romance, then later felt like it was a complete waste of time (after he leaves). I haven't gotten to the end yet, but I hear there is a solid reason why he had to leave the Inquisitor. What is the deal with DA mages anyway ;)

I understand what you are going through, but given Bioware's track record with romances, expecting a happy ending is... a bit naive.

I expect we will get closure of course, in the form of DLC or something, but happy endings are never a guarantee. In fact, I've come to expect nothing less than having my heart ripped out of my chest and trampled upon by a herd of nugs.

To quote a wise dwarf, I don't think Bioware is "in the business of lullabies or children's stories."

1) there is absolutely a good reason for him to leave.

2) you should watch some Doctor who. There's some important messages about how pain and sadness are every bit as important as happyness.

3) things are more involving when they take your heart on a roller coaster instead of a... something that only goes one way.... ya that metaphor sucked.

The fact he actually does this makes him one of the best romances Bioware has done.

Sorry, I don't agree with that. In my re-plays I definitely won't be romancing him again.

That is how Gods do it. They mingle with mortals and then they flee. It seems that the old elven gods have much in common with greek gods

Yea, I love Solas' characterization as a mentor/friend, but I don't do angst.  I won't do the romance unless I reach that 'I've seen it all and ready for new stuff' moment in playing.

Sadly EA has said there will be no companion DLC do to all the on disc controversy in games lately.

That's exactly why his romance is great. Not all romances end in a good way, and the way Solas one ends fits perfectly who he is and why he doesn't want to go on. The other romances end well, so if you want a happy ending, try another one. ^^

And by that they meant no DLC companions like Sebastian or Shale, not DLC that involves companions.

Could have been worse, he could have knocked Lavellan up with a demi-god child first.

I don't think the story with Solas is finished. For me ( imo) . It's clear that he stole the essence of Mythal and killed Flemeth in the process. Probably because he still want to do whatever he planned to do when he gave the orb to Cory and it was destroyed. So Solas might return.

Sorry to break it up to you but Solas wasn't supposed to be romance in first place

Spoiler

BW only added romance option after people annoyed hell out of them to make Solas romance option...so this is same as complaining about Javik for not being full romance in ME3...both of them were never ment to be LI's they were only added more or less as LI to shut people the hell up and that is all.

Plus there is DLC on the way and I bet my life on it that it has to do everything about Solas...so I suggest for you to take an aspirin, calm the hell down, drink your hot milk so you can sleep and wait for DLC.

Kind of disappointed he didn't! But I think Bioware learned their lesson about god babies from previous installments.

Any ways having done the Solas romance it was awesome, including the sucker-punch dumping at the end. Solas pretty much feels like the obligatory romance for fLavellans now.

Uhm no. Bioware added him as romance because they got more production time. Not because people annoyed them for it. (Cullen on the other hand...) Heck at some point many fans were hoping Solas wasn't one of the romances and that if he was they were actively wishing he was the straights/gays/others romance/problem.

I would have been up for it, a baby is a baby and my biological clock is ticking irl, I could live vicariously through her

I've just started a playthrough to do his romance but I'm glad I beat the game with a different character first so it wont come as a shock.

Want a happy ending? Romance Cullen. It's nice. It's sweet. And best of all, happy.

The romance with Solas was... surprisingly amazing. He leaves for a good reason. Should you romance Solas again, make Cole a spirit and after the game, go and visit Cole at the tavern. What Cole says will assure you that Solas left your Inquisitor to protect her (he may be referring to either Cole or the Inquisitor in his comment, but it is still applicable either way).

After he broke my Inquisitor's heart (well, and mine, too) I thought I'd stay away from Solas whenever I rolled a female Inquisitor... but it's too good to ignore.

As curious as I am about that, I'd never be able to make Cole more spirit-like instead of person-like T_T

Haha, I know what you mean. My first playthrough, I just couldn't even imagine taking Cole away from the evolution he seemed to be making for himself. Then, I thought about it more, and in my second PT, I let my mind decide instead of my heart (as corny as that sounds). It's worth at least ONE playthrough, I promise. :)
