So when I first saw Skyhold, my question was how do people get in there? When the Inquisitor and Solas are both looking at it. The Inquisitor starts to head down but nowhere near where the gate that looks like the entrance. From that angle I couldn't see a clear passage way to Skyhold. I just was curious if anyone thought about this or am I the only one?

I believe there are stairs or something alike in the tower across the bridge - you know, the one which leads to Fast Travel.

I haven't actually been there, however, it just makes the most sense.

Either that or we got Cassandra to break down a couple of walls.

... What? It's not like anyone was living there!

While stairs make a bit of sense. You can't get horses or wagons up stairs. Looks like they just never noticed the discrepancy or didn't bother to make it right

We never get to see inside that first tower where we assume the stairs are, it would make sense to have a large pulley lift in there to bring up carts to use the bridge, that would prevent siege equipment getting in easily as the ropes can be cut in a siege.

Because its not actually shown, I guess its up to your own minds.

And why have Cass break down walls, half are already missing when you get there.

I'd like to believe they used an ancient artifact of great power.

Commonly known as "a door".

That's actually an even better idea than stairs.

Because it's never shown (nor should it be, jesus it's expensive to make these things y'know) it's best to make up your own logical conclusion.

Yeah I assumed there was a pulley elevator system there ( I was thinking about the Eyrie in GOT books, had a similar thing to bring supplies up the last bit to the castle)  But it would make sense if there was a stairway wrapping around the edge of the tower with the elevator in the middle of it, stairway being a backup plan if the elevator malfunctioned/ was damaged

I love how people are ok with body switching shapes shifting dimension switching magic but something as small as "horse carts can't go up stairs" is debated. It's so trivial and insignificant that I feel dumber by even having to point this out.

For the same reasons the inside of Skyhold strikes you as a picturesque late autumn while the outside is an unforgiving winter... What's that over there!?

If you build stairs you have no need for the large portcullis. Just a small door.

The cutscene depicting their journey to Skyhold is breathtaking but the second I saw it, I decided to not question the details of the plot, becuase it's just one of many things in the story that fall apart as soon as you start looking into the details. Bioware has shown from time to time that they don't really care about detail. People should just stop looking for them.

Magic!

Actually being partly serious. The codex mentions that the place originally belonged to the ancient elves. It's probably crawling with magic.

So I guess magic preserved all those flags that were still flying. You'd think those flags would have turned to dust, long ago.

Since we don't get to see, I just assume there's a circular path going around behind the hills or something after that lone tower after the bridge. I'd also assume the forces horses are somewhere on ground level under or next to Skyhold.
