So, i have played a mage until right after the palace thing with the empress.

I also have played a rogue until before you close the breach. In Dragon age Origin i played a Sword and shield warrior and in DA 2 i played a Melee Rogue, I loved both of those in those games but in Inqusition they just dont seem to appeal to me too much, all classes i have tried so far has gone stale and boring, i dont care if it is melee or ranged but i want really really good dps with atleast decent survivability, what do you guys think i should get? :(

And that brings me to my second question, i dont know what race to pick, if human or elf i'd prefer female and with the rest male.

How do my race effect the game while playing?

I had the same problem. Started a mage, found it a bit 'meh', started a 2h warrior, found it a bit 'meh'. Finally ended up at an archer rogue, which is not typically me at all, but I'm having a *lot* of fun. Spiky damage is fun as hell when you crit on a powerful opening move and one-shot an enemy. There's decent flexibility in abilities you can use. You're a bit glass cannon but with stealth, distance and the defensive moves you get I have no trouble staying alive. My mages die quicker. Damage potential is awesome, and you get to pick locks. Gives you good overview of the combat as well, as compared to being in the thick of battle. Highly recommended. I'm now 40-ish hours into the game.

For race I went with human, which hasn't really influenced the game much. I doubt other races will influence it heavily.

A knight enchanter with the right set up may fit the bill. Spirit blade gives a good melee option, and you can use fire mine with the chaotic focus passive to get truly impressive DPS. And with its barrier on damage passive, a KE is nigh on invincible in most cases. You can also alternate between melee and range as one or the other gets stale.

As for the second question, I prefer human because of the extra ability point, and the game just feels like it fits better around a human. There are also more armor options for a human.

Perhaps a backstabbing rogue will suit you? I hear it is not the most powerful kind of character, but certainly interesting to play as your personal character.

Really good DPS with decent survivability? Two-handed warrior.

'DPS' and 'survivability' are just very general traits and not how the class plays, though, which I think is more important to have fun. Do you want to be the center of the battle, pulling enemies towards you and taking their punishment, do you want to move in and out of close combat, do you want to kill them from afar, etc.? If you don't know, try asking yourself why you want survivability and DPS, and in what form specifically (because that would help already).

Each class has some really fun gimmicks and mechanics. I'd just take a look around the different skills each class has and see if anything appeals to you - if you find something, there's bound to be some neat things to do just with that skill. For instance, I really enjoy the warrior's skill that makes you drag an enemy to you with a chain - you can upgrade that skill to then also send that enemy to the ground, which works extremely well with the two-handed Mighty Blow move.
