Hi,

if a mage attacks me with ice, electric or something (I particulrly hate the ice attack):

Do I need magic def or ice def ??

And if it is ice:

What do I need magic def for?

Only for mental attacks?

Biowar is unwilling to share those details at this time. Perhaps you could ask the PC hackers to test this.

maybe magic helps against mental things like fear of the demon commander

but in which way? chance of resisting the attack completely?

I am crafting my armor and would need to know what magic def does exactly

The thing u call mental in my opinion does spiritual damage and there is a specific resist mod for this.

My guess is that magic def decrease all incoming magic damage from any soucre (fire/ice/electric/spiritual). I would asume this because higher level mod can give something like +10% magic def while specific resistance mod can go to +30%.

Since you dont know which enemy you ll encounter before the game start, i think magic def is more valuable than specific resist (pots can help for that).

This is pure speculation since bioware don't want to communicate about those details.

This was my thinking as well, since an armor mod that gives 14% cold resist would be the same item level as an armor mod that gives 5% magic resist, I would think magic just encompases all elemental types.

Magic defense defends against all forms of magic. Elemental defense only defends against that element.

Magic defense is always better than elemental defense when it's 1:1, but it's more expensive when crafting.

If my memory isn't playing tricks on me, I've seen my keeper and templar not be affected by demon commander fear like 1/5 or 1/10 of the time which I think may be due to the magic defense upgrades they have. I'm not sure though, because other players could be spamming dispels or I hit abilities to cancel disabling effects, or the game is just crazy and doesn't know whether or not people should be hit or not :).

I've got like 25% bonus magic reduction from items on my legionnaire and panic affects me every single time I'm in range when it goes off.
solo full clear video currently uploading for video proof.

Fairly certain it only affects damage.
