Why is Sera the only one you can kick out after recruiting?

I'll be kicking out Dorian on my third playthrough. Can't stand his sarcasm. I could never kick out Sera even though she turned me down when I tried to romance her.

I wish I could have left Blackwall to rot but his personal quest never triggers. *sigh*

Why would you kick out anyone besides Sera?

Not very big Blackwall spoilers:

When Vivienne threw a strop over not getting her way with the Mages and started acting like a spoiled child i wanted the option to tell her to pack up her junk and leave. Bioware needs to be fair with these options.

Because Vivienne is a condescending, self-serving and self-righteous b****.

Not once does she refer to the Inquisitor with respect. There should've been a dialogue option to tell her to stop calling my Vashoth or Human Noble "my dear" with that tone.

I gotta say, Oberyn's paramour did a damn good job with the voice acting because I don't think there was a single dialogue with her where I didn't feel like telling her "GTFO, I don't need your help if I need to put up with this crap."

Any idea if something happens if you kick Sera out? Like does Red Jenny turn on the Inquisition?

I don't know. It really should've been there for everyone optional.

I shouldn't have to force a character to loathe me to tell them to GTFO (and in some cases not even then. Why on earth can't I kick Vivienne out after she undermines my authority? Who the hell is she?)

While I agree (that the option to kick out companions should exist for most of them), Vivienne did make her position fairly clear at the ball she threw/invited the Herald to, so if you knew you supported the mages' other side she was not really a wise choice to begin with.

I'm pretty sure one of the reasons why she's the only one kickable is because she's the only one who has a quest that gives a unique item (Jar of Bees) and they didn't want people to miss a one-time only item just because they didn't want to recruit a certain character.

You can kick some other companions as well, but only if they disapprove. You can kick Sera out anytime you want.

Yeah, that's what I meant. For the other characters, you have to get low approval with them to kick them out, and I guess they didn't want you purposefully trying to grind negative approval with Sera just to kick her out after getting an item, especially since the Bioware staff were aware of how divisive she could be.

I'm just glad that the choice is there during the recruitment mission, seeing as how past games have often forced people on us without any say in it whatsoever. But, yeah, I wish the option was there with others as well, even if I wouldn't use it except possibly with Vivienne. She actually got along with my Inquisitor, and some of her advice is decent, but she's the one companion with whom it's pretty obvious that she's using us. Super-ambitious, master of "the Game", condescending ... of course she's not "just" there to save the world.
