Choosing between my previous protagonist, and the guy who intentionally got his best friend's son, an entire army and my mentor figure chopped up? How's that even a choice? Same with Stroud. Hawke's deep in my monkeysphere, and Stroud shows up once or twice in Dragon Age 2. Fly you beautifully mustachioed cannonfodder, fly!

Now if it were a choice between Hawke and Alistair...But since Alistair is and shall always be the king (search your feelings, you know it to be true), I'll never have to face that quandary. :D

Ugh what is it about Logain? Why do people admire that sorry sack of sh** after everything he did to the wardens. I'm sorry but Alistair couldn't have said it better at the Landsmeet. Who in their right fu**Ing mind would exile Alistair someone who was with you from THE BEGINNING and replace him with Logain who numerously tried to have you killed, betrayed his King and abandoned the battlefield, I believe that's called desertion, leaving hundreds of people including the King to die.

------------------------------------------------------------------snip------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You don't choose Loghain over Alistair, Loghain surrenders, and Alistair, throws a childlike temper tantrum and demands you kill him, and storms off if you don't. I don't see how it's Loghain's fault that Alistair over idealizes Duncan and the Wardens (apparently he didn't know Duncan was a common street thug, who was conscripted after killing the Warden Commander's fiance).

It's not really that hard to see why people don't want to kill a revered national hero, who poses no threat to you anymore, in front of his daughter. Also if Alistair and Anora are engaged, killing your future father-in-law isn't exactly the best way to start a marriage.

This is a thread for those who, at every opportunity, always spare Loghain, the toughest son of a ****** in Thedas. He will outlast the Dragon Age!

That which is Loghain may never die. But rise again, harder and stronger.

I STAND BY LOGHAIN. WE'VE NO HOPE OF VICTORY OTHERWISE.

And if Gaspard ascends to the throne, Loghain will be there as Senior Warden to the Order in Ferelden to repel the chevaliers.

(If Alistair can overcome his grudge and listen to his sound strategic advice, of course. :P )

I hope that every game has an option for Loghain to die. Then, by DA6 we'll get an achievement for saving him called: "You're still alive?!

I am going to make a world state with an ass of a Hawke specifically so I won't feel bad when I sacrifice them. I couldn't do it the first time around with my 'canon' Hawke. But I really, really want Loghain to live on.

Loghain's sacrifice in this game was probably one of the biggest damn hero moments of the game, the guy went out like a complete badass.

His arc was also perfect, from standing up to the Wardens and admonishing them for making the same mistakes he'd made in Origins, to sacrificing himself to save Hawke and the Inquisitor, I felt that the game gave him even more redemption that if you let him die fighting the Archemon in Origins.

Personally, I never liked the Redeemer ending as sacrificing Loghain to the Archdemon to atone for his mistakes seemed like the easy way out and it made him come across as something of a death seeker, whereas his sacrifice in Inquisition was him doing something genuinely heroic and selfless.

Ha! The title of this thread makes it sound like he's an endangered species! Sorry, I couldn't help myself. My silly mind has now conjured up images of Loghain in a Zoo, with visitors from other nations looking at him in awe.

Logain still a sack of sh** who is killed by Alistair in almost all my playthroughs

"says the person with the Anders avatar" yea that has nothing to do with this topic lol

And Logain has never surrendered in my game, another reason why I always killed him. So whatever who really cares he's a made up character

I kind of pictured that happening when he went to Orlais. "So, this is the mighty Hero of River Dane, eh?" All with their frilly costumes and judgmental stares as they walk past.

I don't think anyone in this thread is saying you have to like Loghain.

Just that he is a cool, rare character that you can continue to keep pushing on game by game. I really like seeing his contributions beyond just dying a hero's death. [Or a traitors].

Plus, you can't put a price on the scene where, as a female warden, Morrigan comes up to your room and asks for permission to sleep with Loghain.

I usually kill him because he's a monstrous idiot in DA:O, but his continued existence makes for an overall better experience in DA:A and Inquisition.

Duuude, don't say dat. Read The Calling. Seriously.

The book reveals why he thought the Wardens were a means for Orlais to conquer Ferelden yet again.

If possible, read the Stolen Throne first. I used to be a Loghain hater until I went on to learn more about the Battle of River Dane.

The book'll show you what an asinine Maric was and how Loghain handled the entire orlesian occupation by himself.

He literally won the war using his wits and military training.

The man has his heart in the right place. Go read the books. Go go go!

Totally signing this. Loghain is the scrappiest bastard I know, with so many ways he could have died and yet you can help him defy fate at every turn.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the person pointing out your Loghain hatred alongside your Anders avatar was probably making a subtle hint about Anders blowing up the chantry not really being any better or worse than the things Loghain did, so... yeah, sorta relevant in that sense.

Also for people defending Alistair's actions at the Landsmeet, the Warden may have a bigger reason to want Loghain dead but can still spare him.

A City Elf warden, has to deal with the fact that Loghain was selling their friends, family, and neighbors off as slaves to a hostile foreign power, A Mage warden has to deal with Loghain encouraging Uldred which lead to their home being destroyed and almost everyone they know killed, not to mention the fact that he embroiled their best friend in an assasination plot that may have ended in his death, or tranquility, and for the Human Noble, he hired their family's murderer as his assistant and even though he wasn't they have good reason to suspect that he's tied to their family's deaths.

Not tied to the Cousland's deaths. Confirmed by writers. Staph!

I know he's innocent of that that's why I said "even though he wasn't" but he still hired Howe, and a Human Noble would have good reason to think Loghain ordered the deaths.

perhaps not, but perceptions matter.

Howe became the right hand man of Loghain when he became regent. While the couslands death are not connected, a human noble can think that is the case though.

Even if it weren't, Loghain not only did NOT punish that murderer, he rewarded him, and opened up a huge series of abuses, torture, and theft from the royal treasury in a time of Blight.

But, I forget myself. If Loghain lives, I do hope he enjoys some relaxation time.

Well on this world condition, Loghain is *sigh* dead, and my warden is on the throne with Alistair, because this was a Cousland family history. Loghain let Howe go unpunished for his deed, so Loghain died. It made sense.

On others Anora is on the throne, Loghain is recruiting for the Wardens, while Alistair is drowning his sorrows in a bottle like a common drunk. It wasn't my idea, and we needed more wardens. Being a warden isn't all fun and games. They take criminals and make wardens out of them. Duncan mentions this. If the their bodies accept the taint, they've proven themselves. But if Loghain hadn't pulled his army out at Ostagar, the entire lot of them would have been crushed, and there would have been no Fereldan army standing against the blight.

Nope havnt read The Stolen Throne or The Calling. Only DA books I've read are Asunder and The Masked Empire, and a few of the comics. Been meaning to get the other 2 novels tho. I'm pretty sure I'm still gonna hate Logain tho after reading them. He's such a douche in origins.

Well. Loghain sure is a badass, and a good man, as I've learned in the books...

A good man doesn't commit regicide, sacrifice all the men he did at Ostagar leaving Ferelden unable to combat the blight and support Arl Howe's actions, even in The Stolen Throne he performed some unsavoury acts. Loghain remains dead from the Landsmeet in all my play throughs.

He's the only thing keeping Ferelden together in the Calling because Maric is a negligent king, and that's putting it nicely. He's also the only thing that gave us a Ferelden to save in The Stolen Throne.

You don't have to! The best ending is to harden Alistair, tell him to marry Anora and shut up, and recruit Loghain. Alistair is mad at you, but then this is pretty much promptly forgotten in awakening onward.
