Is it hard to embalm a headless corpse?
I didn't even bother, just tossed Alistairs headless corpse down the well outside the denerim chantry

hurra
Ugh what is it about Logain? Why do people admire that sorry sack of sh** after everything he did to the wardens. I'm sorry but Alistair couldn't have said it better at the Landsmeet. Who in their right fu**Ing mind would exile Alistair someone who was with you from THE BEGINNING and replace him with Logain who numerously tried to have you killed, betrayed his King and abandoned the battlefield, I believe that's called desertion, leaving hundreds of people including the King to die. Even locked away his own daughter and seized the throne for himself. He despises the grey wardens all through origins and yet if you do recruit him, in inquisition he acts like he's ssoooo dedicated to the grey wardens, oh gee Logain nice to see your holding the wardens in such high regard now. *rolls eyes at Logain* too each his own I guess but I will NEVER understand why anyone would choose him over Alistair. Just mind boggles me.
Alistair is a whiny brat and I was glad when I finally got rid of the guy and replaced him with Loghain. He made some mistakes but he even admits that if you recruit him.
Anyway a toast to Loghain!
One of my favorite characters in gaming
!
Actually, I'm pretty sure that Alistair has just as many opportunities for death. Alistair can be executed after the Landsmeet (though I could never do that!), can die killing the archdemon, or can be left in the Fade - or survive all these things.
Personally, though, I find it a bit stranger for Loghain to survive all that. He has "redemption by death" written all over his character. For him to keep surviving at the expense of others actually feels like a bit of a slap in the face for him. I don't think it's what he wants.
You're right but, like you said, Alistair and Loghain embody different tropes. Alistair is meant to grow, accept his responsibilities and become the king Ferelden needs; there is even an entire comic series dedicated precisely to that; but Loghain, he is old, his glory days are behind him, he fell from grace and you are "supposed" to either kill as punishment or let him sacrifice himself so he can be redeemed.
The fact that you can continuously have him pull through every single life and death situation is what makes it peculiar and thus entertaining.

That and an awesome voice actor.

So much this!
I saved Loghain because Diplo!Hawke wanted to take one for the team, and because Loghain needs to rebuild the Wardens. Also, I like to think he and The Warden have at least a few more interesting stories to tell each other, especially now that The Warden is a family man like Loghain.
Also, Loghain's response to the Nightmare Demon in the Fade was amazing. So much sadness, bitterness and regret, but the man just never stops fighting. I gotta respect that about him. So many other people would have broken down by that point in their lives, but not him.
Three cheers for Loghain, definitely.
In my next play-through it will be between, Ass-Hawke and Loghain, I believe Loghain will live haha.
Naw, despite only having 3 personality types Hawke is always presented as diplomatic. Your ass hawke will say probably one or two ******* comments and the rest will be diplomatic making you wonder how Bioware could mess up something so bloody simple.
Don't remember the exact dialogue, but it went something like this.
Solas: I dreamt at Ostagar. I saw the Hero of Ferelden and Alistair light the beacon. I saw the retreat.
Inquisitor: What really happened?
Solas: Hard to say. In the Fade, spirits reflect the emotions they perceived happened. I saw great warriors fighting to the last while a power-mad general gleefully left them to die. Then it changes and I see a torn veteran deciding to save as many men as he could in an unwinnable battle.
Inquisitor: So you don't know which is real?
Solas: It's the Fade, they're all real..
When I first talked to Solas and he said this I was like "YES! Thank you, DAI, for finally acknowledging that not everyone saw him ONLY as a usuper." I didn't expect to hear anyone mention Loghain ever again. But then it only got better from there. This alone makes DAI worth the purchase, lol.
My "canon" warden always kills him out of blind rage, but I always do another runthrough or two where I spare him and I absolutely adore the layers of his character. He's easily become one of my favorite antagonists/anti-heroes and it's interesting to see how he adapts when he's spared; I'm glad to see that there's continuity with him in doing so.
That scene was also written in such a way that if the writers want, they can easily "resurrect" the sacrificed character. They managed to escape the giant spider, and have been running around the Fade, trying to find a way home, whatever.

Yeah, I think the "Will Likely Die" bit means, "We'll bring them back if we want to."
By the way, I can't be the only one who thinks Loghain has aged extraordinarily well for a man who's likely in his late 50's or early 60's. I get the stress of the civil war, but I'd think that being Warden for ten years would have taken its toll. Apparently darkspawn blood turns back the clock, in addition to giving you a significantly heavier jawline.

If I had just seen his model without it being labeled "Loghain" and having the same voice, I wouldn't have recognized him. Not crazy about the way his looks have changed, but I guess it can't be helped.
Loghain's new name is William Dafoe ![]()

He does indeed look different. Not terrible but just not Loghain to me.
Nice to see you back on the forums by the way ![]()

Finished it already. Didn't expect I would like it, but I do a great deal. It's my GOTY and I don't say this lightly.

*waves* Hi there, it's great to see you again too! Hope you're having some fun!

Glad to hear it. I think I liked it more than I expected to, but still not as much as I wanted to. Definitely better than any game I've played in a while, though.

Ha! What an turn of tables. It reminds me of that mission in Mass effect in Noveria were an asari asks you to spy on an corporate guy, and then you have the option to totally double cross her and have the corporate guy spy on her instead. I totally ruined someone's day back then.
As for Loghain looking different, I guess it depends on the angle you look at him. Like in this comparasion for example:

*sigh* I actually miss the braids...
