Bug: Custom crafted armors unavailable on characters they should be. Non-human characters referred to as both their race and human.

To Reproduce: Unsure, require further information. Some people report their Elven characters capable of wearing the race-specific armor. No information regarding the second portion of the bug, regarding Orlesian Ball.

Further information suggests this problem touches Rogues. Still require further information to narrow down possible causes. As mentioned, Dwarven Rogues are also affected in at least one case.

Footage: (See enclosed videos)

Description: An Elven character unable to wear armors that have "Elf-Trained" as a requirement. An Elven character referred to with both Human and Elven titles.

I confirm that. I also had issues in some dialogues with the human noble option available where it shouldn't have been and references to the Elven Mage Inquisitor having been studying at the Circle of Magi.

It never occured to me these could be connected.

During the bit in Orlais, my character was also referred to in two lines, played OVER each other, the first being

"Lady Trevelyan, daughter of Bann Trevelyan of Ostwick" and the other being the correct

"Lady Lavellan"

As I have footage of this particular bug as well, I will update the thread name and the original post.

Luckily, I didn't get this bug so far, could equip Elf-only stuff on my dalish inquisitor. Although, Sera seems to be designated as human for purposed of equipment restrictions, she can wear Orlesian Army medium armour, but can't Dalish Scout one. Not sure if that is intended.

Did your Inquisitor get both titles in the situation shown in the second video?

I still think that with Sera it's WAD and not a bug. It's perfectly justified by the story (she's a city elf and doesn't think much of the Dalish and their heritage).

I don't really care what she thinks. She still has elven body. Not like Dalish Scout armour is powered by user's tattoos or anything.

Yet to get there. Want to get all the dialogue perks first.

Sera being Human-Trained could be excused by her growing up under human supervision. Discussing it is, however, not the point of this thread. The point of this thread is other Elven characters appearing as Human-Trained when clearly trained by other Elves (in addition to being Elven themselves)

So, is this me, or did a legit bug report get pushed all the way to the third page in favor of pointless whine threads that barely fit the description of the board?

I'm trying to bloody help here. Instead, what I get, is being ignored by the community - who, at this point, where BioWare probably wouldn't even answer, can help by delivering extra information and trying to see what causes the bug.

Ugh. Why.

Checked at the Winter Palace, and my dalish inquisitor is presented as Lavellan only. Also, in case it helps, character is female mage, and I definitely switched cards around before finally settling on a female elf mage.

Thanks.

Looks like this bug only applies to a few playthroughs then, as I know of at least one other player who reports no problems with an Elven Mage.

Let's see if this bug is somehow class-relevant, can an Elven Warrior/Rogue comment?

My own character is a Rogue.

I am experiencing this bug as well. In one of the Red Jenning quests, the antagonist calls me a noble. I've also had missions on the War Map referencing the human noble origin. My Inquisitor is a female Dalish elf. I have yet to see elf only armor so I don't know about that portion of the bag. If I had to guess, the Boolean flags for Inquisitor race is jaunty.

Due to certain reasons, I'm afraid I can no longer provide more footage and information regarding the bug. It would be awesome, though, if others would step in and help gather as much information about it as possible.

Now, I'd like to thank the three other people, who already did so. Thanks guys/gals!

Okay. This issue really bothered me. I bought a pattern for Dalish armor for my Dalish inquisitor and...can't equip it. I have heard the double speech issue before and did not think too much of it. I am fairly certain I am having the same issue (my elf is treated as human, or more likely human AND elf in some weird order). I would love a solution as I am pretty invested in this character.

I can report that it isn't not just elven PCs running into this.  I'm playing a dwarven archer and she has the same problem.  She can't wear dwarf-trained armor.  I did run into the dual name bug with my first character, but not with the rerolled one I'm playing.  Both of them had the same armor issue though.

Thanks for the info. I've updated the original post again.

Can non-human Mage playthroughs clarify whether or not this problem can also appear on Mages?

Same applies for Warriors.

Keeper Robes are a Mage armor, but we need more examples. It should help us narrow down the problem.

It might be connected to an issue I remember being noted just after release, when people's characters were referred to as female humans instead of whatever they chose at character creation. Workaround was to switch around genders in initial selection a couple of times and then do the same with races and classes.

Nice, but I do not think this workaround will work for an over 115 hours long playthrough, such as mine - I seriously didn't even consider the game bugged (I mostly ignored the Ball bit) until it was post-story, with just one area left to do.

However, if this is the case, I also do not think there is an easy solution. Perhaps only checking some boolean flags on your character (and thus you need to find out if non-humans suffering this bug have their values set to True for both Human and chosenRace) and if more than one gender/race/class tags are checked, attempt to resolve the situation.

NOTICE:

The bug seems to be fixed as of today's patch. Before I just edit the OP with the good news, however, I would like everyone who reported having this bug to say whether or not it is the case for them, as well.

If it isn't, we'll keep searching for a solution, but I have good faith that the bug fix is final and definite.
