As an archer I usually fight from distance, behind my group.

And usually everything works fine ...

until I am suddenly dead without knowing what happened and without any chance to prevent that.

During my last perilous game I got insta killed 4 times by this f..... Stalker.

Bioware, It is legitimate to introduce an enemy that kills cowards like me (when I am an archer)

but you should at least give the player a chance to prevent this, right?

Or does the stalker give any signs which I've missed?

You can prevent it, you can still see him when he's invisible like a cheap cloaking device not to mention you clearly hear him.

This is one of the reasons I tend to prioritize the stalker when I engage a pack.  Especially as a ranged character, it can help if you try to pick him off first.  Really, the trick is just paying attention and being alert.  Try to get a look at the pack before people engage it.  If you can spot the Stalker before he cloaks, great.  If not, and you just spot him as he vanishes (look for the smoke bomb effect as he disappears), then at least you know you need to be keeping a sharp eye out for the Stalker sneaking up on you.  As Niss mentioned, you can see him when he moves around and if you get close enough the targeting indicator will pop up over his head.

Anyway, just takes a bit of practice.  Even with all of that, he still sneaks up on me from time to time.

Yes, you can see stalkers and other cloaked enemies. My problem is the damn game does not allow me to target them. Left click on where the enemy is = random shot in the air, right click to target lock = no effect... Is this a bug or working as intended?

Especially as an archer, or when there's an archer in the group, I don't find this to be a huge issue. Mainly because there are a ton of cues that he's approaching you, if for some reason you were unable to do my usual MO which is to full draw the stalker to initiate a pull.

A keeper is another great addition for this, as static cage and veilstrike both totally screw the stalker over, and barrier will give you a moment to react if you've completely missed the initial kill, the interim disruption, and final approach.

Ahhh, the Stalker :D

His role is to sneak up on the squishies and stab them, and he does it pretty well. There are strategies to avoid him, however. When your group rolls up on the next group of enemies, do some scouting before engaging. If you see a stalker, you can press up on the DPAD on controller or one of the F Keys on PC ( I forget which one right now ) and it will tell your teammates to attack your target and highlight the enemy. Then, your tanks should aggro, or follow the Stalker if he's already entered stealth ( you can see him slightly when he's invisible ). If you hit him while he's in stealth he'll be forced out.

thanks :)

I'll try that.

On PC I think it should be F1 then.

Because F1 means "target" - but so far I've always thought that F1 would put MY focus on this enemy and not my teammates'.

Amelia, btw is there any place where we can find all these things? Some kind of manual or ANYTHING ?

I mean, there are so many things that might sound easy for you (and now that I know them, they do for me, too)

but until then, it can be frustrating (F1 probably being a bad example, though)

You can tell teammates to attack your target? That's sweet. I hope it isn't ambiguous like when you try to thank a teammate.

Have you been reading the cards in the loading screen?  They tend to have some info similar to that on them.

Not saying it wouldnt be nice to have them all in one collection though, where we have time to read them rather than speed read them all before the loading screen is complete.

it looks similar to when you get the "kill enemy target" event, giant crossed swords over its head.

but yeah, stalkers are(assuming my group bothers to give me a sec to find it) the number one target for a cloaked hidden blades.

the venatori one isn't all that bad, the templar one can insta-gib anything without guard/barrier up

They get highlighted with a crossed swords symbol above its head.

If you are an Archer, nuke the hell out of him with Full Draw and/or Long Shot, then hide a bit behind a wall so other archers does not murder you.

As long as you know it is not dead, you should scout for this shimmering wave approaching. It will be the stalker or Red Templar Shadow.

Your ears are your best friend when visual effects overload the screen. When you hear him and have no visual clue he's likely behind you. Leaping shot helps a lot.

If I'm moving even at all, his tracking is bad enough that he usually does 0 damage to me.  Templar stalkstalk, on the other hand, is much nastier.  If he clips you with even a single fraction of a frame of his instagib, your world is going to get wrecked.

on PC (with SSD) the loading screens are so short you can just read one sentence without being able to browse through them.

And for some reason I have seen the F3 card a million times but never the F1 card.

And yes - I also would prefer to have all such info accessable somewhere. And those F-keys are a bad example - there is many more important

things I would have liked to know

Welcome! I think the online manuals live here: http://help.ea.com/c...ge-inquisition/ . The callouts are mentioned briefly in the manual. If you take a look at the keybindings screen in game it will probably be more informative. One other you might not know about : Sprint! Click left stick on controller or press left shift to sprint. Its a toggle, so you only have to hit it once until you stop sprinting and then hit it again.

That's because loading screens last ages on consoles.

I can't find the callouts anywhere in the manual. In-game keybinding screen says keys F1-F4 are for selecting party member 1-4.

For PC:

F1 - Target this enemy. I've had a few games where team members would target the stealth characters which has saved my hide on several occasions. I've started doing the same thing, but as soon as one person gets the attention of the other enemies, they stealth, so you've got to be fairly quick to target. Another indicator for the stalkers is fire. Nothing like an invisible enemy set on fire to make them obvious, except they don't always seem to destealth when this happens. It's funny, nonetheless, I've seen people get shanked by them, walking ball of fire and all.

F2 - Fall back. The lines on some characters are rather ambiguous, I find it better to use F4 for getting everyone's attention as it has the shield pop up with the red outline.

F3 - Thanks. Sometimes, it sounds more like a "Good job" than a "Thanks", but that's just me being pedantic.

F4 - Come here. You know that call that people spam whenever they find a class door they can't open? Yeah, this is the one. It's the best attention grabber there is, save for using your microphone.

I've been shanked by stealthed enemies more times than I care to admit, but if you're aware when the team is about to descend upon a spawn of enemies, taking out the stalker or highlighting him is a good strategy. I frequently play the Archer kit, and my targets are primarily the enemies archers, stalkers and lines of enemies just asking for a long shot to skewer through them. The tank can't do their job if they are killed by the firing squad before they get to the heavy hitters, that's probably why I don't enjoy playing tanks, because I can't play them worth a damn and enemy archers are the bane of my existence when I play melee kits.
