The Dragon at Hissing Wastes is like... a little too easy?

Not long ago here on BSN I came across this crazy awesome video. Then I decided to emulate it.

As soon as I had got the Longbow of the Griffon I headed to the Hissing Wastes. At level 19, the Dragon is level 20, but 'should be fine', I though myself.
I don't know whether the video was recorded on Nightmare, but clearly that player could have bumped the damage output a little more. Since I do play on Nightmare, I didn't want to risk. So I used Poisoned Weapons (+50% damage) and two Horns of Valor (+50% damage each, not sure whether they stack though) and a Master Dragon-Slayer Rune. Also, I attacked from Stealth, which granted me 50% Armor Penetration and some more damage bonus.

One cast of Sera's Flask of Lightning, then I just let the AI do the job of Auto Attacking. As soon as the Flask wore off, the Dragon was dead. 7 seconds, give or take.
I mean, seriously? It can't get any easier than that.

I've tried however fighting another Dragon (the one on Emerald Graves which is level 17) and it was completely different, the damage is nowhere the same, maybe because you don't get to attack the Dragon in its sleep. Still, I managed to kill it in my first attempt, but it was a strenuous fight.

The dragon isn't easy(well.. not that easy anyways. Not hard either, but that's besides the point)

Some abilities and the synergy between them are broken.

Tbh, Sera can turn any boss/dragon fight into a curb stomping.

Yes, her DPS is awesome. I bring her for every Dragon encounter. I constantly hear from people having 20 minutes, sometimes 40 minutes dragon fights. So far I've killed 6 Dragon and none lasted more than 5 minutes (maybe the Hinterlands one did... but that is a boring ass dragon).

Still, finishing a Level 20 Dragon on Nightmare within a few seconds and letting the AI do most the job, is on a whole other level.
The Hissing Wastes Dragon VS Sera [using the Longbow of the Griffon] is a joke.
I recommend whoever hasn't killed that Dragon yet to try it.

The dragons at Emprise du Lion are stronger than Hissing Wastes.

Either way dragons are easy, what you are fighting against is the stupid AI running over fire or not moving away from projectiles.

Giants imo have the potential to cause you more damage as melee than a dragon.

Ah yes, the dragon with jetlag. I dunno, all dragons are pretty easy.

Thing is, even if they survive Flask of Lightning then the Flask of Fire + Thousand Cuts combo is still waiting.

I imagine they are. Also, they probably won't be sleeping. I will leave them for last.
The AI is indeed pretty bad as far as positioning the characters in a safe distance is concerned. Having that in mind I prioritized damage over survivability for the Dragon fights, which can result in higher risk of failure in case things go wrong, but much quicker fights when everything goes right.

Some abilities, especially in combination with other abilities, are ridiculously powerful. Like, obviously, Thousand Cuts + Mark of Death.

Well it all depends how you build your character and your party. When I first started the game, I had little knowledge of how things worked and Dragons fight use to drag on forever! but I had it all figured out by the end of my normal play though.

I started a second playthrough on hard mode as a DW rogue, and I murder Dragons that are as much as 3 levels higher than my party all in about 3-5 minutes.

After I'm done, I plan on doing a 3rd play through on nightmare as a mage. I'll see if that provides a significant challenge.

For a challenge:
Be a mage.

Have Solas, Varric and Cassandra in your part.

Kill Ferelden Frosback, on Nightmare, before doing the Templar/Mage quest. You'll be level 11.

Took me a good 20 minutes. Mages don't do **** for dps at this stage, whereas my archer setup did it at 6 minutes at the same stage.

Oh well, t'was fun!

Dragon's are fine not too hard not too easy. Dragon fights are easy because of ridiculous overpowered abilities like thousand cuts. I'd say if you want a "normal" fight with a dragon don't use:

-Knight enchanter's fade shield

-Mark of Death

-Thousand Cuts

-Upgraded Static Cage

-On hit gain guard enchantment

Where is this Longbow of the Griffon?

You get it during one of the main quests, inside the Temple of Mythal.
It is the antepenultimate main quest and requires 40 Inquisitor Power to be unlocked.
