My first was a male human Rogue, but my second is a female Qunari mage. Probably won't go for a third playthrough but if I ever do it'll be a female elf for story/Solas reasons.

First - Human Male Mage

Second - Elf Female Rogue

Third - Dwarf Male Warrior

I don't understand the fascination with qunari. I don't think I ever will, none of them are interesting except Iron Bull, and he's practically not qunari as it is.

its fun to have horns.

The Qunari culture is unappealing, I agree. For one thing, they think hornless qunari are anything but pitiable, which is frankly baffling and reason enough they mustn't be allowed to conquer the world.

I imagine female qunari mage was pretty popular... though maybe I'm overestimating the power of Special Snowflake Syndrome.

Male Warrior S & S.

I know people are going on about KE (whch is why as to insure hard actually is hard I rarely used Vivi, despite loving her), but I have murder stomped 5 Dragons so far and bloody hell the S & S if managed correctly can't be killed.

Second is probably some human varition of a mage (which will be my 3rd run anyway)?

My second run is in fact a Dalish, but she is Andrastian through and through, so the whole Solas thing never affected my choices anyway.

And Blackwall (urgh, that beard) is tastier anyway.

I'm vain and I want a nice body model for my inquisitor, so even though I keep trying to roll male elves and female dwarves, I just can't commit to them. The male elves have those funky inset shoulders and the female dwarves have adorable faces, but then they have those tiny shoulders and short arms.... Anyway, based solely on physical appearance, I'm guessing the humans were the most popular because it's so much easier to make conventionally attractive inquisitors from the presets.

But to be honest I keep getting 12-13 hours into the game and then going back to the character creator because some tiny jaw imperfection is really really annoying me, so my only completed playthrough is a female elf who I chose specifically so that I could take every flirt option available. Clearly I am not going to be contributing a lot of data to Bioware at this rate.

I'd say warriors still top out the class list, though a lot of people will be replaying as a different class (possibly mage).

As for race, probably human.  Gender?  I have no idea, since gender now randomizes at load screen.  I think class does, too, but that's been days ago and I can't remember.  When there's no real "default" on gender, you may see more people choosing to play female than before.

I'm guessing sword-and-shield warrior, human, at the top.  Genders may be somewhat more equally balanced than past games, due to randomizing it.

I personally began the game as a female elf mage, as I'd planned to do all along.  I wanted to deal with the books' plots for mages and elves, so the decision made sense.  Having beaten the game... I think it's probably the best race/class for this particular game, since it seems to be very elven.  Dwarves and qunari unfortunately lack that same connection to the overall plot.  Human characters, however, would get the most out of it by being pro-Chantry, I think, but the end game is less meaningful for a human.

There seems to be lot of "casual" male gamers that take male warrior with preset face. As casual in this sense I mean gamers who aren't really into DA and it's lore but since it's new big game they will buy it and play it, maybe leave it unfinished or even finish it once and then sell it back to game shop or leave it in the bookshelf.

Well that's my theory anyways.

Only 5% of players EVER played a dwarf in Origins, and with competition from the qunari I think that figure will be even lower this time. I'm certainly not counting on having playable dwarves in the franchise going forward - I love them, but it is a lot of work for something very few people ever use. Elves were more popular at around 18%, the other 80% of Origins characters were humans.

I played a female dwarf rogue first, but I suspect that less than 1% of players joined me.

And it's not to say that Bioware didn't try. IMO, the dwarven origin (casteless or noble) along with Orzammar was the strongest origin in terms of story and had the most interesting mini-hub in the game....yet after all that work, only 5% of people actually bothered? You're right as well that quanari will push that down even further  so if it even hits 5% on the telemetry data, I would be surprised....

I believe it's a toss up between elf mage and human warrior.

Least popular would be dwarf, any class.

Dwarf was pretty suitable to me as a Warden. Especially the Aeducan. They're already a military commander...who already fights darkspawn. So yeah, it's a shame if it remained unpopular.

Here however, dwarves don't do it for me. I like them, but the premise leaves me scratching my head. It might end up the same for other players.

I feel sad every time I think of the fact that only around 2.5% of players saw each of those origin stories :( . I think they're far and away the best in the game! (Noble slightly edges out Casteless for me, but Casteless does have that brilliant moment when the helmet comes off ...)

I like Casteless too, but mostly because a dwarf with Courtney Taylor's voice is awesome (Cocky voice). She should've voiced the Inquisitor... then I might warm up to it.

Male Human would be my guess. I'm less sure about class.

The Qunari would probably be the runners up this time around, because this is the first game that they are playable.

I'd bet on Humans > Qunari > Elves > Dwarves

Human would probably be the most popular race.

As for class, Rogues are usually the least popular because they're the hardest to play.

I wonder if we'll even find out. Probably not. I'm interested if Qunari are more popular than elves. I see a lot of people rolling elves, here and other boards.

I'd imagine it's human of some flavor.

My first complete DAO was a male Dalish duel-wielding rogue. I made half a dozen others, ending in various places in the plot for whatever reason it no longer appealed to me. Then I finished it with a male elf arcane warrior mage (who I did Awakening with).

My first DA2 completion was a male sword'n'board warrior. Second one was with an archer rogue. Given the option, it would have been an elf, not a human, but c'est la vie. I also left a half dozen unfinished campaigns, mostly male but a few female, or each class.

In DAI, I first made a male Qunari mage, and at level 8, I made a male Qunari duel-wielding rogue. Got him to level 8, and made a female Dalish 2h warrior. Got here to about level 3, wasn't feeling it, and rolled a male Dalish archer. He felt perfect, and he's now level 13 and the one I play the most (I have 2 jobs, and have been taking my time exploring everything, so it'll be a while before I finish). The pathfinding is clunky and I get stuck on rocks a lot, so I find melee very frustrating. Combined with the lack of "sticking" on my target (the way DA2 did), I find ranged way easier to play, since it takes a second or two for my character to stop its animation before I can move to chase mobs. Half the time, I just let my companions beat up the bad guys and I loot things.

I'll probably never play a human. I play one of those in real life, so I want something different :P

I tried rolling a female sword and board character and didnt like the play style of it for some reason so deleted it.  I'm typicaly a mage player and went with that first play thru saw the ending and then went female dalish mage like a lot of people to see how that goes.  I also currently have a male 2 handed warrior I'm going to play and a female human rogue.  Though I don't care for how melle side of game plays and seem to prefer ranged characters.

I would have rolled a female dwarf warrior in a heartbeat if varric was romancable.  Also considered doing a male dwarf warrior to try and romance scout harding tell I learned they also aren't romancable.  Flirt yes, true romance no.

DAMN YOU BIOWARE!

Rogues have always been really unpopular in DA and with the new combat system that basically makes them tissue paper cutouts, (where warriors have guard and mages have barrier) I'm going to say least popular would be rogues of any race.

Most popular would be male human warrior hands down, i'm basing this on causal players like my brother who who picked male soldier in me2 and quit the game after an hour, only serious rpg players probably get into the lore and select something different

I still get the lore and still picked it :P

It might surprise you, but the human fans aren't necessarily mainstream/noobs/or unimaginative. Or whatnot. Here's some lore: The interesting thing about humans in Dragon Age is that they aren't generic "human". They're all nationalities. That gives it more diversity. Just as much as it does in our own world.

Here's another thing: The game was originally designed as human only. It was only gamers crying about it that delayed the game. Because they thought it be like Hawke, and they were never fans of DA2. And Bioware is afraid of losing more people. They meant to tell a specific story here about human related crisis, religion, politics, and civil war. That's the lore here. And human fits fine in it.

Believe me I know many people on here chose human, but I'm talking more about the majority casual players, we're just a vocal minority. It's more of a feeling/opinion, I could be wrong, except about majority human
