Does it matter which advisor I send on missions?

Or is it basically the illusion of choice and all 3 advisors yields the same outcome?

I don't think they yield the same outcome. It certainly feels like I've made some "wrong" choices, as in the operation completed successfully but some were completed with heavy casualties.

I believe there is difference in how the agents operate in respect to the mission, if you carefully read the operation debrief you can guess which agent to send to get the best outcome. At some time is obvious the choice to take at other times it can be quite subtle. I really like the war room operations and it shows the effort they put to introduce new game play features which are not just gimmicks. Really good jobs Bioware.

Yes, different advisors can have different outcomes

That or picking the right one can open up more operations, to continue the story.

Also, is it safe to say that the advisor with the shortest time to complete is probably the one that will yield the better outcome?
Not sure but I doubt they'd do that

In my first playthrough I sent whomever would complete the mission in the shortest time without really reading them, I'm pretty sure that was a bad idea.

Oh yes, you can fail missions if you send the wrong people; I made that mistake once early on and then started paying more attention to the mission briefings and have had much better success since.

Nope. And please note that perks can alter the timer anyway.
Really, the only way to choose correctly is to read the missions. And sometimes you'll get it wrong.

Isn't there a loading screen card that says the shortest time represents the best option?

well I don't think so, now stop being lazy and read the damn briefing ![]()

Each advisor solves a task differently yet you don't have to fear any consequences. Correct me if am wrong.

I have seen too many operations where the "right" choice wasn't determinable, so I'll be looking for a guide on my next play through.

If you are playing a Dalish elf and you use Josephine to ask nobles for help with your clan who is having problem with bandits then your whole clan gets slaughtered as the help reaches too late as opposed to using Cullen and inquisition soldiers.
So nop, outcome isn't the same.

Well i allied with the wardens, and managed to kill them all in just about 2/3 missions. On the playthrough im at right now ill try to do it differently to see if i can keep them alive, or at least have them alive for a few more missions.
I hated they died, but it was nice to see that not thinking it thru would lead to exhausting my resources, either completely or too soon.

I also was worried that this would somehow at least effect the world a little. but sacrificing the grey wardens for some table mission has in the end no influence on the story, it's not even mentioned in the epilog.

Yeah not so much a difference if you don't read the text, just some small rewards. If you are into reading everything than it is pretty sweet.

The War Table is intriguing, if the advisers were simply picture cards would lose all respect for Bioware. It's a lot of fun to read each approach, though I have not found any adviser who could get coins better then the others, so I suppose someone might wonder. Really, if there were another way to ply lowbie coins I couldn't think of it.
Crockets answer amazed me, though there has been a few missions where I went, hmm, bull in a china shop or rat in a cupboard, though never saw that one coming with Josephine!

I don't know about the rest but in the ones where you can search materials each advisor will get you different ones: Leliana will get you herbs, Collen metals and rocks and Josephine a little bit of everything.

Read their solutions/comments (on the tarot cards when you select them). You can "fail" missions - well not really fail, but not get the result you expect. So yes, it VERY much matters.
A better question, does it matter to the main story? - no. You can ignore most of the missions if you want and it wouldn't change the end-game at all. Except for the narrative at the very end.
Also those missions do bring in resources and gold. So keep that in mind.

Yep this is the issue, there are no real consequences in the game. I think they wanted to build in actual consequences but they didn't have time. Its something they should be encouraged to do for DA4.
