You can fail war table missions? I'm close to the end of the game and have never seen such a thing.
Yes. For example elven Inquisitor can get his clan killed.
Apart from that, I believe you can have different rewards/unlock other missions depending on which advisor is doing it.

There are like 2 or three that I know of that can have an effect on your game (not endgame really) if you don't choose carefully. Like one table mission where you have to choose carefully who rules such n such and a few others.
The others you can fail (which just don't give a reward or you can just get gold instead of an item plus influence)
The only ones not need to worry about failing are the resource missions, but if you don't read what your advisers say they can gather, your just doing pot luck then, heh.
*Edit* Oh, and some missions can give positiver or negitive companion approval

Well i allied with the wardens, and managed to kill them all in just about 2/3 missions. On the playthrough im at right now ill try to do it differently to see if i can keep them alive, or at least have them alive for a few more missions.
I hated they died, but it was nice to see that not thinking it thru would lead to exhausting my resources, either completely or too soon.
You know this is the non spoiler forum correct? Please respect that or I will report you. You can answer my op without revealing core details. All I asked is if the outcomes are always the same. A simple y/n answer will do. No need to give examples that reveal actual plot/operation missions when I did not ask for such.

Also, is it safe to say that the advisor with the shortest time to complete is probably the one that will yield the better outcome?
That's not always true. Definitely, not always true. You can fail missions moreso once you get to Skyhold. For example the elf background missions
I play two files concurrently with two different characters so I tend to pick different advisors to see the different results. Missions strictly for money or resources you can't fail though.

You have to read well, in my first playtrough i got wardens wiped out, in my second they got extra mission of killing some extra darkspawn, collapsing whole mountain on them.
And know, after quite some War Table mission i can see that many of them would be insanely awesome side quests. What the Hell Bioware!?!?

It mainly affects how people view your Inquisition, but it can also affect whether you get follow up side quests etc. Basically, if you keep sending spies and assassins out to rob, kill and threaten everyone, you will be viewed with fear and paranoia, if you are open handed and respect the territorial rights of other countries, you will be seen a bastion of diplomacy etc.Throw your weight around too often, and people will see you as a military power on the hunt for expansion.
It affects how the Inqusition is viewed in the ending. In game it mainly affects what kinds of rewards you get, and if you choose a particularly appropriate solution, you can sometimes get follow up quests that you wouldn't have gotten otherwise. It can happen that a risky choice can... not exactly fail, but have an uncertain outcome.
For example, the chantry was making some noise early on about my Inqusition, and some clerics were trying to rabble rouse and suggest I was the one who killed the Divine etc etc. I mulled over my options, on whether to try appeasing them, but in the end I decided to send my soldiers to guard the Grand Spire. It was risky, but I'd seen how frightened the people in Val Royeaux were without the Templars, so I figured if I sent some men to add security to the city, it would reassure some people, whilst sending a polite 'stop messing me around' message to others.
The first time I tried this, it went well. Cullen reported that whilst some clerics donounced us as invaders, most were happy to have some security returned to the city, and enough clerics got behind me for supporting and protecting the chantry that it was viewed as a success, However the game crashed not long after this, and I had a few other things I wasn't happy with, so I reloaded to a slightly earlier save. The quest hadn't been started on this save, so I just sent Cullen seeing as how I knew it worked.
Except this time it didn't work. The report I got was that whilst my soliders were allowed to stay, everyone was scared of them and convinced they were there to threaten them. They quieted down, but the situation was tense I was told. This is the only time I got a less than favorable report in the whole game.

Maybe there are some where the advisor you choose really matters...but for most of them it does not, which is disappointing. The Dragon celebration one? Reading the choice between Josephine and Cullen sounds completely different. But the result is the same regardless of which one you choose. Disappointing.
