Hello,

So my inquisitor is doing "Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts." This is the quest where you need to accumulate 100 approval. This is tedious as hell under the best of circumstances, but now I am stuck in the garden with one approval. A few seconds after my game loads, the approval drops to zero and game over.

Is there any way to abandon this quest? Is there any way to salvage game data so my character and progress are not lost? I'm on XBox One, I suppose I should mention.

Do you only have the one save? No earlier ones?

(You don't really have to get 100 approval to complete the quest, by the way, only enough that you don't get kicked out of the party while you're running around in the places you shouldn't. 100 does get you the "best" ending but it's not strictly necessary.)

Nope. Some remnants of earlier games, but nothing recent.

You should be able to do it. I had 4 approval on my first run. You don't actually need the approval from the court. No approval or very low means you fight the duchess rather than using words.

How far are you? You need to get the key from morrigan and I think that triggers by climbing up the trellis and opening the door to the left which is servant quarters. I think you need a halla statue to do that and there is one on the other side of the upper balcony on the railing. Once in that room it moves from there but I'm shady on the details because that was a freaking nightmare to get through. Easily the most tedious and annoying part of the game.

Did you put a coin in the fountain? I think you can do that twice to give you 2 approval (one for each) and going back into the palace via the courtyard where the reporter is should be a man (if you have not talked to him yet) who will complain about some relative. If you say that the person is a jerk it will give you 10 I think.

You might have an auto save from starting at the palace. You can see if you go out to the file of the character you might be able to load an auto save from there but you have to choose load then the character and see what is there.

I have enough time to run to the trellis. Occasionally, my auto save becomes corrupted and it starts me nearby, also with 1 approval but with a few more seconds, ~20.

Do you have time to run into the hallway of the Guest Wing (between the Guest Gardens and the Vestibule).  This is the hallway where Solas and Iron Bull stands in if you brought them.

There's a herald emissary walking back and forth in this hallway.  If you talk to him, he complains about this dude Philippe being late.  If you agree with him that Philippe is a jerk, you get 10 approval.  Also in one of those art gallery rooms off this hallway is a Baron guy that if you talk to him and ask him all the Investigate options questions, you get 15 approval.  Maybe try to do one of those and get some approval back in the time that that 1 approval gives you?

This is not immediately applicable to your situation, and I didn't know this in my first playthrough, but once you enter the Servants Wing and the Royal Wing, you can turn around and go back out.  Maybe pay Leliana another visit to turn in some secrets for more approval.  My first playthrough I was wondering, what's the point of giving me all these scandalous secrets in the Royal Wing if it's just going to dump me into the finale without giving me a chance to talk to Leliana again?

*bump*

Ugh. After a month away from the game I decided to give it another try. I'm more or less lost, and can't seem to get anywhere before the timer runs out. I'm sorry to say this issue has made me lose interest in the game and I'll be moving on to someone else. I hope someone at Bioware reads this and considers a different way to implement these kinds of missions in the future. All in all, I still enjoyed this game for the most part and will consider purchasing future installments carefully, despite my disappointment.

Thanks for your help.

Okay, I play most often as a Dalish mage, so start at 30 approval. Find the ring, talk to nobles choose middle response throughout. The one you have to investigate with, do "Gaspard is your nephew." Agree that Philippe is a jerk on the one where you can. That's about 70 approval. Climb trellis, go around balcony to right, grab Halla statue, go open blue door in front of trellis, dash through, grabbing what you can, get the vestibule doors open. Yeah about 40 approval now, good.

Wait for the second bell before entering the ballroom, being fashionably late gains approval.Talk to Morrigan and get key. Again talk to nobles you can, choose middle response or noted ones. Talk to Dowager and ask her opinion. Fab now we're back to 60+ approval. hit the servant's quarters, run to objectives, grab what you can en route but don't dally about. First bell, get to ballroom doors and wait for second bell.

Dance, choose middle response all the way during dance. VIOLA 100+ approval ( game will start saying you gained 0 approval because you are over 100.) Relax, go get loot you skipped in other ares THEN go to the Royal wing, that approval isn't going anywhere anytime soon now. When you're happy, head to royal wing and hit the objectives there. Once that's done, go back to the ballroom and choose the ruler of Orlais - still at 100 approval incidentally.

You can skip the halla statues if you don't want to ally Celene and Brialla, only need them if you want the documents to do that.

If you can get at least 20 approval by going about what the other posters suggested, I suggest you take the time to orient yourself . Don't pick up anything, just look around and check the map. If the game map doesn't work for you, try doodling your own with notes added in.

If you are going to do the servants' quarters, you can explore their rooms but make sure you don't take the leap into the garden.  Once you're ready, make a save before dropping down into the garden. If you totally lose all court approval because you spent too much time in this zone, just reload that save. Don't let the timer harassed you, stay cool and take note of your surroundings.

Just one last bump, and I'm done with this title, I promise.

It's been two and a half months. Is there any work around / hack / exploit / that can get me through this event? I've forgotten about the characters, setting and story, so if there is a way to use some other person's saved data, I'd be interested in that as well. Anything - I'd just like to play the rest of the game.

Thanks for the help, though.

You could tell us what inquisitor (race/class/gender, general look, name.) then perhaps someone else with an XBox One can play a game through that quest then upload it so you can have it and play from there.

Very true. Just did it AGAIN, this time with a Qunari, they begin the lowest of all. I allied Celene and Brialla and, finished with 100+ approval in 1hr, 25 minutes. Took my time, got all the loot, all secrets, halla statues and coins or, I'd have finished in half that time or less.

Well five months later, I decided I'd try another play through. Stupidly, I assumed this matter would be patched by now, and did exactly the same thing. Any updates? This is an intensely annoying problem.

(I do seem to have a little more time now, maybe a minute.)

SOLUTION! I was also stuck at 1 point left, with a save just at the door to the Rift. After 30 minutes of trying to defeat that part faster and faster, I had an idea, and this tended to solve my problem! This will only work if you did not however collect all other possible Court Approval points.

I ran as fast as I could down and out of the Royal Quarters, and back into the party. 1 point was not enough time to do this in a single shot, but what I did discover is that if you save your game in about 30 second increments, the next time you load the game after the timer is up, your 1 point timer will restart itself as if it were a new point. I ran out of time just once, but made it back to the party. I then spoke to Duke Germain about Gaspard, which awarded me 5 points I believe, then the servant in the same area where I called "Phillipe a jerk", which gave me 15 additional points. That was enough, and I made my way back up to the Royal Quarters.

Not very organized info, though I hope this helps anyone else out. :)
