everyone's saying he's the best class, but I just can't use him well. the biggest problem: he's a melee type, and like any other melee type, he gets knocked to the ground by BASIC melee mobs. in threatening that means dead, not to mention perilous. also, when there is only one target his barrier builds up really slowly, since there is no target for chain lightning. my build is pull of abyss, chain lightning, fade step, and the sword thingy. so what have i done wrong?
how do i use arcane warrior?

The general consensus is Chain Lightning, Fade Cloak, Pull of the Abyss and Spirit Blade. (I like swapping Chain Lightning for Fade Step). Take the passives that seem good but don't take Strength of Spirits and remember; your barrier does not benefit from armor mitigation.
As far as playstyle goes, pop Chain Lightning, get close, PotA, Fade Cloak, detonate in the group and spam Spirit Blade.

Armor reduces damage per hit. The higher your armor rating, the more damage ignored.
According to others' tests, it appears to work on a 1 to 1 scale, so 1 point of armor reduces all hits by 1 damage.
Taking damage on health incorporates armor damage reduction into the final damage dealt.
Taking damage on guard incorporates armor damage reduction into the final damage dealt.
Taking damage on barriers does not incorporate armor damage reduction.

This is a bit of an oversimplification, but...the way armor works in this game is it reduces incoming damage by a flat amount. So if you have 100 armor and take 101 damage, you now take 1 health damage. If you take 900 damage, you instead take 800 damage. But Barrier doesn't use your armor--only Guard and Health do that. So if you take 101 damage to your Barrier, you still take 101 damage. That's part of why archers or massed fire tear through a Barrier so fast.

Thanks!
But I think it is better that way.
Because the barrier covers the armor
and not the other way round.
