I mean really...

Worrying about Shinobi602 ninja sneaking into the compound at night and stealing all info about the game is not the worst thing.

How come not even one Bioware employee spills some milk? Do they all sign a life pact when starting the work on a new game like "one leaks the info and all of you go to gulag" or what?

* Great - I made a stupid typo in the topic name.

Honor code. And by that I mean medieval Japanese honor code.

Seems like it.

I got nothing against non-leaking dev team, I kinda even commend it.

But still this feels very difficult to uphold.

They would know that someone rats out, if info was disclosed that wasn't mean to, but they would have problem proving it to the specifiied member.

A big contract with some severe punishment usually does the trick.

Seriously, the industry does not really tolerate people who leak out info, and having a reputation like that is a good way to get fired and probably blacklisted from every team.

Its pretty interesting. Bioware games are some of those that people want leaks the most from, so hearing *nothing* so far is impressive!

If someone wanted to leak some info, he could do this easily, if he was determinated to do so ... and without risk of being discovered!

Maybe this can be "blamed" on an unusual dev team - it might be comprised entirely of ME fans itself.

Get payed to work on your beloved game series and watch out not to let anything bad happen to it?

Yea I kinda see why this might be the actual case with the overall lack of leaks...

^That happens. Developers can be paid to leak info, or he/she got drunk at a bar after a conference, or the company got hacked, there are tons of ways info could be leaked. But companies tend to have ways to prevent that.

Also developers tend to enjoy the idea of keeping the surprise fresh. Game developers and businessmen alike like it when fans get excited about their product.

its better that they keep the details shut cause the last thing i want to happen to this game is details to get spilled and forces them to change it therefore rushing them like ME3

What would leaking information that's not finalized accomplish?

That's for the leaker to decide.

Surely nobody from BioWare would like to leak something simply to make things harder for the dev team, seems like everyone feels great there and the company treats employees great.

No reason for payback.

Well, it's not that a mole did leak all that stuff about ME3, it was a text file included in an accidently distributed beta test version, right?

Talking will get you a one way ticket to the airlock.

Everybody knows this.

Developers tend to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement with pretty harsh penalties if it's breached, that seems to do the trick.

Same thing might be with prison for murder.

Threat of being sentenced is there, but we never had 0% crime anyway... so if we apply this to gaming indistry, there still is a risk of a whistleblower.

The entire Montreal team was indoctrinated by the Catalyst. In all honesty though, BioWare has a solid track record of keeping a clamp on leaks generally. Besides the leak of an early ME3 script, they like to keep the game and the story as unknown as they possibly can.

I have a somewhat simple explanation:

Many of the leaks (I'd estimate about 80% of all game leaks) are pre-planned by the game studios or publishers themselves, in a way to help gauge or gain hype, or even to see player reactions to certain elements of the game.  If people react negatively, they devs can remove that element from the game early on and just chuck the removal up to it being an early-development idea.

Yea well since this is a BioWare game, I guess they install a homosexual module in peoples heads and if they say a word those things trigger on...

... "somebody is making a killing out there"

I'm not hating, I'm just saying :D

A whole army of genetically modified and intensely trained ninja assassin moose. Everyone who starts here gets a video demonstration of one of those moose wiping out a small board room filled with office workers with just its left antler. I occasionally still dream about them, and when I wake up I swear I sometimes see a silhouette in the window.
