So recently i've been making armor for my multiplayer characters but i'm having a hard time figuring out which ones are the highest defense/legendary gear. IF anyone happen to know what armors are the highest defense for each character it'd be a great help so i don't have to save up countless stuff to make the wrong armor!

The armor rating change from armor to armor provides a pretty negligible defensive bonus.  I really wouldn't worry about it.

That aside, armor progression is really simple.  Base armor = T1 (such as Archer's Tunic) -> T1 Alternate Skins (such as Archer's Tunic (Obsidian)) -> T2 (Peerless Archer's Tunic) -> T2 Alternate Skins (Peerless Archer's Tunic (Obsidian)).  Building T1 armor unlocks both T1 Alternate armors and the base T2 armor.  Armor rating across the alternate skins is identical.  Archer's Tunic (Obsidian) has exactly the same stats as Archer's Tunic (Flint).  T2 alternate skins have the highest armor rating, but like I said, it's pretty negligible.  In the case of the archer, you're looking at taking ~20 less damage per hit against mobs with low armor penetration if you upgrade from T1 to T2 Alternate.  It's helpful for routine, but the benefit declines pretty steeply in threatening/perilous.

Anyway, that basic armor progression is identical across every character.  So if you want the highest armor rating, you want to build one of the alternate skin armors for your T2 armor set.  Doing so requires you craft the T1 and T2 armors before hand.

the colored variants also have an AC boost from the default versions. starting armor to final colored variant can be around 20 AC that's not negligible when your running threatening and perilous.

Your basic Lesser Shade on routine hits for roughly 90 damage prior to armor rating/resistances.  The basic archer's armor reduces that to about 40 a hit.  Upgrading to a Peerless Archer's Tunic (Obsidian) further reduces that to about 20 damage a hit.  Pretty substantial damage reduction there.

In contrast, that same Lesser Shade on threatening hits for roughly 210 damage prior to armor rating/resistances.  Basic archer armor reduces that to roughly 150 per hit, and the Peerless Archer's Tunic (Obsidian) further reduces that to about 130 damage a hit.

I don't know the figures for perilous, but I'm guessing that their damage increases further.  On top of that, some enemy types have very high armor penetration, further reducing the effectiveness of the armor upgrade.

My point is that the defensive benefit fluctuates depending on the enemy you're fighting, is less significant the harder an enemy hits you, and is unlikely to ever be higher than 8-9% damage reduction on threatening.
