I think they are all pretty great, but Dorian quickly became my favourite. He's way too awesome.

Dorian. He's made a straight male just a little bit gay. Amen to that.

Blackwall pushed it close... until I found out about his past. As such, Iron Bull takes second place.

Least favourite? Sera (didn't bother picking her up with my second character, which means I miss out on her dragon killing prowess and bees. That I'm willing to live without both speaks volumes).

Damn, Cass and Dorian, both Gaider creations, are in the lead!

Seems like the poll's holding pretty steady with Dorian, Cass, and Solas each taking about 1/5th of the total votes and the rest of them having around 5-10% each.

It's worth pointing out that opinions can change depending on who you take into the field. I really didn't care for Cole on my first playthrough, but back then he always stayed back at Skyhold. I was a rogue, and didn't need another tagging along.

My new build, a warrior, takes him everywhere (specced for bows) and I've found him great company. Naive and childlike, but not in an annoying way. Dorian is also rather gentle with him, which just makes me love the mustachioed wizard even more.

I'm a little bit surprised Varric is bottom tier, probably because of his crossbow and people are already familiar with him. Blackwall on the other hand, I heard he's a huge disappointment for a lot of people and I already know what the plot around him is. He seems like a fine character, though I gotta admit I prefer Cassandra, Sera, Dorian and Iron Bull. Makes me ponder on what romances people chose first... Could make a poll about that later.

It's such a shame about Varric. I never played the second game and he seems like a nice character to get to know better, but taking him out in the field is a no go. His crossbow just isn't on par with the rest of the game's ranged weapons, and switching him to daggers is suicidal given how the A.I handles dual wielding.

I figure if I give him dual daggers, it will on be in case my protagonist is long ranged and I want a melee type rogue. That could work.

Anyways, before I go to sleep, here's the update:

Varric is one of my favorite characters in the series, but while I feel like he and my Inquisitor are friends, I don't fee like they're friends. As a member of the Inquisition he's more like a new colleague friend. You'll go drinking with him, but he probably won't crash on your couch and raid your fridge the next morning. For my Hawke Varric was a crash on the couch and raid the fridge friend. Seeing the differences in his relationships with the Inquisitor and Hawke has caused me to place him on a lower rating compared to other members of the Inquisition. To me Varric will always be Hawke's companion.

A tie between Vivienne & Solas.

Seems like Sera is winning even though it seems most of the BSN dislike her... Lol. I voted for her. Solas is next which is her complete opposite. Interesting.

Perhaps for her party dialogue?

I'm a dude and it's Solas. His conversations were so damn interesting IMO. I was always hanging off of every word.

Cassandra is a pretty close second. Religious, but not preachy. Tough. A sense of humor and driven. She is probably my favorite girl companion in DA other than Morrigan. (maybe isabela is up there too.)

I know what you mean. From my Inquisitor's perspective, I actually like the other rogues more. Sera is funny. Cole is sweet, but I'd never call myself friends. He's a tortured freak who I just want to be nice to.

It was the same for me. I didn't think I'd find him that interesting prior to release, but all the dialogue on spirits and the Fade was gold. I didn't think he had a boring conversation in the game.

And its hard to top that end game twist. I didn't see that coming.

I think a lot of the problem with Varric is he's literally written JUST to be your buddy. He's not really plot integral in either games, but especially in Inquisition. His saving grace is that he's the Garrus. But if you're not feeling that then he doesn't provide anything else.

Plus, it's now pretty staunchly confirmed that he is not/will not be available for romance, so that has probably taken some of his charm.

He's definitely integral in DA2. The whole thing hinges on the Expedition. And everything that fell apart because of it.

Well, surely? Like how some people suddenly lose interest in you if you only want to be their friend. Not a great attitude to take, but it happens. Varric has a large fanbase that wanted him as a romance option.

Also, yes, you're right about the expedition in DA2.

Yeah, I sorta wanted him to be romanceable in DA2 and DA:I, but I still consider him as one of the best companions written by the writers so far. He's a feel good ally to tag along in your adventures. ^_^

I voted Sera. Remarkable considering I was 100 percent sure I would hate her from the marketing and recruitment quest.

Cole. A bff in my main save. I knew I'd love him after his profile but he was even better than I imagined. I may have learned more about each companion through Cole than by talking to them. I wish my inquisitor could have had the "Cole experience" too.
