Rreavers can build guard and taunt, making them much tankier than assassins.
You got a tank for that...
I say as I always say: There isn't a time in the game that requires you to get hit as a dps. Needing to be tanky is counterproductive on a dps. And before you say: Yes, on nightmare.
Now, I love my reaver and I plan to do a second reaver playthrough soon. But I do wish they wouldn't shoehorn you into 3 abilities, spamming Dragon Rage. It gets tedious after about 10 hours!

I played a little with a 2 hander Reaver and then, to try if it could actually work, I played a S&B Reaver. You lose some DPS (and neither so much) but, surprisingly enough, I found much more fun the latter. There are some skills in S&B that synergize very well (better than the 2 handed tree) with Reaver, as Payback Strike and Warrior's Resolve.
Moreover the Grappling Chain used on a S&B plus the Reaver concept completely spells out "Revenant" (just put a Templar Armor and you are set) and that's an huge plus in itself in my book ![]()

They do different kinds of DPS depending on the circumstances really.
When the reaver is allowed to sit in their ring of pain with a bunch of enemies around, there's no stopping him. He'll swipe through all of them in seconds and do incredible amounts of DPS.
Face the reaver up against a whole bunch of foes that are spread out, you get the equivalent of a flimsy assissin without stealth. Nothing much he / she can do against that.
On the other hand, the assassin revels in staying out of a sitatuation for a time, and picking the right moment to strike; He ains't so good to screw over packed groups of mobs, but he's great in slashing through idividual opponets very quickly, no matter what he's up against. + Mark of death is a great feat to have for the party.
Personally I like the combination: my main characerter is assassin, but I always take Iron Bull with me for my "A team". We kill everything easily while cass is tanking and either solas or viv is supporting.

Thanks to your suggestions, I specced out of Poisoned Weapons, and replaced it with Shadow Strike. This reduced my kill time to 44 seconds. Given that the dragon has 311k health, this is an average of 7k DPS.
Also, Selea, I tried crafting a single-bladed dagger, but it was weaker than my dual-bladed daggers. Do I just not have the right schematic? The only tier 3 single-bladed dagger schematic I have is Ribsplitter; I don't have a masterwork schematic.

As any reaver will tell you all you need is guard on hit, SnB passives, charge and a bit of battlemaster. For a reaver two handed tree is terrible while SnB has the best passives. So grab them, get some guard and just dragon rage all day.

Are you looking at DPS in the dagger? Because DPS in dual-bladed will always be higher given the way the DPS is calculated (since it takes in consideration the AOE). However the most important point is not DPS but base weapon damage. That's much more important than the estimated DPS a weapon has, for a rogue.

It can be, but that style of play is really boring, just like spamming Spirit Blade on a KE. I personally prefer to lose some DPS but have a fun build to play.

Yeah, I'm looking at the base damage itself, and it's lower. Ribsplitter's damage is 124, while the dual curved blade's damage is 137. I might just be lacking the best schematic, though.

Yeah, in my 114 hours playthrough, where I've gotten every shard and mosaic and finished all sidequests, I have not had a single masterwork single bladed dagger schematic drop for me. I got the Hissing Wastes masterwork dual bladed dagger schematic off a chest, though.
It really is RNG. And quite frankly even dual blades are enough. Most of the encounters in the game are aoe encounters. Only dragons and Corypheus stand as a single target encounter.

This was my main issue and thats why im levelling up a rogue now.
