I feel genuine pity for anyone who still has to use a CRT monitor. The blurry picture, the flickering, the dark background lighting and the power consumption. The horror!

Modern LED tft monitors are so cheap these days. I'd wager that you can get one that beats the crap out of this CRT for under 100 us$ and maybe that's even too high.

/edit: Oh yes!

LOL!!

Most modern LED monitors are NOT matte, have a response time of 5ms and you must look at them stratght on for good colour fidelity. My 10yr old CRT is still working and has a 170 degree field of view. Plus has no glare or response time issues and works. Also, I don't need a high end discreet graphics card that is capable of heating my compter room during winter months to drive a digital monitor.

Now, if a 2ms IPS non glare 22-24" 16x10 resolution digital monitor with height adjustment and swivel option, two HDMI inputs, display port connector and USB3.0 connection  comes along at a reasonable price...

Thank you for the links, btw.

I dunno how many are actually matte or not, but if I wanted a matte one I'd simply buy one because there are plenty. I'm also not sure that most of them are 5ms because I think that standard is a few years old. Or a decade. My monitor is faster, but admitedly it was considerably more expensive.

The "looking straight on" argument is probably true and I always hate that tft when, sometimes, I wanna watch a movie from the sides or hanging upside down from the ceiling pretending to be a bat while playing Batman. In those moments I really wish I had a CRT. :(

Last but not least: 5 years ago (or so) new hardware was focusing more and more about energy consumption and efficency. We currently have a new generation of graphic cards that on average consume less energy than the generation before while being considerably faster. I was really surprised myself to be honest. My current Nvidia GTX 760 consumes more energy on average while being around 60 to 90% slower than a GTX 970. Peak power consumption of the GTX 970 is higher, but on average it wins hands down on efficency. They really put some work into this.

One of the key points is that less energy is converted into heat, but in actual graphics power (well I guess the word "efficency" already defined this), so the downside is that I have to pay more for oil these days, since my graphic cards are unable to heat my room anymore. :(

Bonus question: How much did your CRT cost you back in the days? Be honest please: Was it a high-end-modell? Since I couldn't know if it was a "normal" CRT or a very good model the comparison with the tfts I linked to might not be fair. If your CRT was considered high end, then of course a high-end tft is the one to compare it to. IPS, yes please (so you got colors and angle covered). Very fast response-time, of course.

There's also 0 proof it wasn't done even earlier than that. We'll never know.

In the absence of evidence, drawing any conclusions is indefensible.

Is the shiny-hair-thingy a bug, indeed? I mean, it really doesn't seem normal, but is it ever going to be patched? I doubt there's an answer by now, I should wait and see...

No I think it's something they did in order to make the game playable on last gen systems...if you turn the meshes up to high on PC the hair looks normal. It does seem kind of dumb though...anyone who knows programming/graphics can explain why shiny hair would be easier for the system to run or something?

Blurry picture? Maybe when they got old. My old 21" CRT was terrific - I only got rid of it when it died.

That's the reason I've never had 16:9 monitor. That CRT was 1600x1200, and ever since I've been unwilling to tolerate vertical pixel counts under 1200. 1080 just isn't tall enough.

Why doesn't Bioware post on their own forums?  Has it always been this way?

We need a changelog.

But just in case we don't get one, hopefully someone will extract all the game data with that handy mod tool before the patch, and then we can do it again after the patch to see what changed.

It would be pretty ridiculous if they didn't release a patch notes with a change log right? I can't imagine any other modern game that has done this. (it will also lead to even more speculation if you go in assuming your bug is fixed and it still isn't).

Also, it could undo all of the work some people have put into unravelling the game's mechanics.  If they suddenly change Cunning so it gives +1.2% Ranged Defense per point or something (instead of +1%), all of our calculations get broken.

Oh God, I hope so. I just got this game and it's buggy as hell. It would be great if they came up with a patch soon before I got too far in.

Did they release notes for the Day 1 patch?

If it was truly released on Day 1, and some people preloaded the game and then disabled automatic updates, they wouldn't have it yet (I think).  Don't they need a changelog to help them decide whether to install it?

I assume they didn't need to since we had no idea what was being changed since we hadn't played yet.

I'm not confident that everyone has it.  But I also can't figure out how to check which version of the game I'm running.

No, because despite your desire otherwise, it's pretty clear that the industry doesn't see patching as a choice.

They'll tell you the big issues that should hopefully be resolved, but I don't think there's any interest in exhaustive detailing outside competitive systems (obviously, multiplayer balance and such will always be detailed).
